Chapter 320: Points in Motion
With Afghanistan in retreat and Korea firmly in control of the hill, the momentum had shifted. Korea's points ticked steadily upward, passing the 23-point mark that Afghanistan had managed before their strategic withdrawal. The NexaRealm system chimed again, marking Korea's growing lead:
[Korea: 35 | Afghanistan: 23]
Eric leaned into his microphone, his excitement palpable.
"And just like that, Korea has overtaken Afghanistan! Their control over the hill is secure for now, but they can't afford to get complacent. Every second counts in this game mode."
"You're absolutely right, Eric," Celine chimed in. "This is where the match gets tactical. Both teams know that losing a player at this stage would be catastrophic. Eliminations don't just cost respawn time; they leave the entire team exposed to counterplays and even worse, a potential team wipe."
On the battlefield, the tension was thick. Despite the absence of eliminations so far, the match was far from dull. Korea's players remained on high alert, scanning the surroundings for any sign of Afghanistan's counteroffensive.
"Hold the formation," Hana instructed, her voice calm yet commanding. She stood near the hill's edge, her glaive resting lightly in her grip as she watched the treeline below.
In-su, Korea's Mage, was positioned a few steps behind her, his hands glowing faintly with residual magic from a defensive ward he had just reinforced.
"They're regrouping," he murmured. "Probably planning something big. We should be ready for a full-scale push."
Chin-hwa, perched on a rock overlooking the battlefield, nodded in agreement. His pistols gleamed under the pale light of the simulated sky as he kept his aim steady.
"I'll keep an eye on their Marksman. If Adil tries to set up again, I'll cut him off."
Meanwhile, Kyu maintained his post near the hill's centre, his twin blades at his sides. His role as a Support might have been unconventional, but his presence radiated a quiet confidence that steadied his teammates.
"Stay close to the wards," he advised. "If they rush, I can buy us a few extra seconds."
On the other side of the map, Afghanistan was regrouping. Khalid, their captain and Tank, stood at the centre of their formation, his shield planted firmly in the ground as he addressed his team.
"We're not out of this," Khalid said firmly. "We gave up the hill to avoid a disaster, but now it's time to push back. Soraya, keep your spells ready but don't overcommit. Amina, stay in the shadows until I call for you. Adil, find your position, but don't let Chin-hwa draw you into close combat again."
Omar, Afghanistan's Fighter, adjusted the grip on his axe, a determined gleam in his eyes.
"What's the plan, Captain?"
Khalid's expression was resolute.
"We hit them hard and fast, but we don't rush blindly. Force their formation to break. If we can take out one of their players, we'll have the opening we need."
As Afghanistan finalized their strategy, the NexaRealm system updated the scoreboard again:
[Korea: 50 | Afghanistan: 23]
The commentators picked up on the rising stakes.
"It's a slow climb for Korea," Eric said, "but a steady one. Afghanistan has to act soon if they want to prevent the gap from widening."
Celine nodded, her voice rising with excitement.
"The question is, how will Korea handle Afghanistan's counteroffensive? They've been solid so far, but if Afghanistan can disrupt their setup, it could change everything."
Back on the hill, Korea's team remained vigilant. The silence was unnerving, each second stretching longer than the last. And then, just as the NexaRealm timer reached another milestone, the sound of movement rippled through the air.
"They're coming," Hana said, her grip tightening on her glaive.
Eric's voice rose as he narrated the scene. "Here we go! Afghanistan is making their move, and Korea is about to face its first real test of defence. Can they hold the hill, or will Afghanistan's counterstrike turn the tide?"
As the tension mounted, both teams prepared for the clash that would define the next phase of the match.
The air around the hill was electric as Afghanistan launched their counteroffensive. Khalid led the charge, his massive shield raised high, deflecting incoming projectiles as he barreled toward Korea's front line. The tremor of his footsteps reverberated through the battlefield, signalling the start of an all-out assault.
"Afghanistan is making their move!" Eric shouted, his voice brimming with energy. "And look at that coordination—Khalid's shield is absorbing everything!"
Behind Khalid, Omar sprinted forward, his axe glowing faintly with energy. Soraya followed closely, her hands weaving complex sigils of magic that radiated a vibrant, crackling aura.
Hana stepped forward to intercept Khalid, her glaive sweeping in a wide arc aimed at his exposed flank.
"You're not getting past me," she muttered.
But Khalid was ready. With a quick pivot, he caught Hana's strike with the edge of his shield, the impact ringing like a thunderclap. The force staggered Hana slightly, and Khalid used the opening to slam his shield into the ground, sending a shockwave rippling outward.
"Hana is knocked back!" Celine exclaimed. "That shockwave disrupted Korea's formation!"
In the chaos, Omar darted past Khalid, his axe swinging with brutal precision as he targeted In-su, Korea's Mage. In-su barely managed to conjure a protective barrier in time, but the sheer force of Omar's strike shattered the barrier, sending him sprawling.
"Cover him!" Chin-hwa barked, his pistols blazing as he fired at Omar. But before he could land a decisive shot, Adil emerged from the shadows. The Afghanistan Marksman unleashed a volley of arrows, each one perfectly aimed to pressure Chin-hwa and force him into a defensive retreat.
"Korea is being forced back!" Eric said. "This is textbook execution from Afghanistan. They're splitting Korea's focus, and it's working!"
Meanwhile, Soraya positioned herself at the edge of the hill, her sigils complete. With a sharp gesture, she unleashed a torrent of magical flames that surged toward Kyu. The Support darted to the side, his twin blades flashing as he deflected some of the magic, but the relentless assault forced him away from his teammates.
"Kyu's in trouble," Celine noted. "Soraya's not giving him a moment to breathe!"
As Kyu struggled to fend off Soraya's onslaught, Amina, Afghanistan's Assassin, made her move. She darted through the chaos, her blades glinting as she aimed for Hana, who had just recovered from Khalid's shockwave.
Hana met Amina's assault head-on, their weapons clashing in a flurry of sparks. But Amina's agility was unmatched; she weaved around Hana's strikes with ease, her movements a blur. With a swift, calculated strike, she found an opening and landed a decisive blow.
[Hana Do: Eliminated!]
"Hana is eliminated!" Eric shouted, the crowd roaring in response.
[Korea: 52 | Afghanistan: 23]
The NexaRealm system updated the stats as Hana's figure dissolved, her respawn timer beginning its countdown.
"Korea is down one player!" Celine said. "This is Afghanistan's chance to capitalize."
And capitalize they did. With Hana out, Khalid surged forward, using his shield to protect Soraya as she unleashed another wave of magic. Omar, emboldened by the advantage, targeted Chin-hwa, who was now fighting on two fronts.
In a desperate move, Chin-hwa used his pistols to create a burst of smoke, obscuring his position. But Adil's arrows found their mark, piercing through the smoke and catching Chin-hwa off guard.
[Chin-hwa Eun: Eliminated!]
"Chin-hwa is eliminated!" Celine exclaimed, her voice filled with astonishment.
[Korea: 52 | Afghanistan: 23]
The second elimination left Korea scrambling. In-su and Kyu regrouped, trying to hold the hill, but the loss of two key players made their defence untenable. With a coordinated push, Khalid, Omar, and Amina forced the remaining Koreans off the hill.
"And Afghanistan takes the hill back!" Eric announced, his excitement echoing the energy of the virtual crowd. "What an incredible counterattack. They've turned the tide!"
[Korea: 52 | Afghanistan: 24]
Afghanistan's players moved swiftly to secure their position, with Khalid anchoring the defence and Soraya setting upwards to deter any immediate retaliation. Adil climbed to an elevated position, his bow at the ready, while Omar and Amina prepared for Korea's next move.
"Korea will need to regroup and rethink their strategy," Celine said. "Afghanistan has shown why they're a force to be reckoned with on the world stage."
The hill now firmly under Afghanistan's control, the match entered a new phase, the tension rising as both teams prepared for the next clash.
As the dust settled and Afghanistan solidified its hold on the hill, the crowd's roar echoed louder than ever. Khalid raised his shield high, rallying his team with a commanding shout. Yet, amidst the adrenaline-fueled triumph, a flicker of movement caught Soraya's eye—a shadow slipping into the periphery of the battlefield.
"Stay alert," she called out, her voice tinged with unease. "They'll strike back, and it won't be conventional."
On the Korean side, Tae-young's figure crouched low behind a ridge, his eyes gleaming with determination as he relayed quick instructions through the team's comms. The hill may have been taken, but for Korea, the match was far from over.
