New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 299: Hunter Guild

The ride towards the hunter guild was quiet, the silence only broken by the occasional rattle of the carriage wheel or the sound of horse hooves hitting the ground outside.

Sinclair had his gaze fixated on the road outside the window, his eyes focused on the path that they passed by.

Coco, on the other hand, alternated between looking outside the window and stealing glances at Sinclair, the information she received just a moment ago still stuck in her mind.

I still can't believe I'm friends with important people like the village chief and the mercenary king.. Both who also happen to be hybrids.. Coco thought, her eyes wandering back to the carriage window and looking out, chewing on the dead skin of her lower lip.

The carriage continued to move forward and then, after a while, it slowly rattled to a halt, the sound of the horses nickering and the wheels grinding against the ground announcing their arrival.

The carriage rocked for a moment, the momentum dying down as it came to a complete stop, and Sinclair could only stare out of the window for a moment, his gaze watchful and cautious.

Then, he turned his attention to Coco and spoke, his voice firm, but soft and gentle.

"Please stand behind me. Don't let the guild master speak down on you." The hybrid said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

The request was clear and deep down, he was hoping that she would follow it.

Coco let out a sigh, her head nodding in reluctant agreement because no matter what she does, she is still a nobody in this world.

So, she understood the reasoning behind his request, but that doesn't mean that it didn't make it any easier to accept.

"I'll do my best to not trouble you or Alithe." Coco stated, an air of resignation around her as she complied, her movements obedient but her expression tight.

"Don't worry, master." Sinclair said, smiling softly, "I'll see to it that the guild master will let you take the license examinations. You are strong and responsible so I'm sure he will consider letting you in."

A part of Coco made her wish that she shouldn't have come with Sinclair to the hunter guild so that this whole thing would sail through easier.

However, Alithe had already gone out of her way and talked to the guild master of the hunter guild.

Seeing that Coco had resigned, Sinclair proceeded to open the door and stepped out of the carriage, his movements smooth and confident.

He took a moment to look around, taking in their surroundings with a quick scan, his gaze darting from one place to another, assessing their location and any potential threats.

His stance was casual yet alert, his body tense and coiled, ready for anything.

When he didn't see anyone who would pose any harm towards Coco, he turned around to face the carriage, his hand held out in a welcoming gesture.

"Here, master. Let me help you." He called out and looked up at Coco, who was still inside, motioning for her to come down and accept his hand to help her down the wooden vehicle.

The gesture was polite, his expression housing a soft smile.

He stood there, patiently waiting for her to take his hand and step down from the carriage as Coco stood up and accepted Sinclair's hand, stepping out of the carriage.

She took a moment to steady herself, her legs slightly shaky after the long drive.

As her feet touched the ground, she paused for a moment, readjusting to being on solid ground again, the touch of Sinclair's hand was stabilizing, but careful, his grip gentle as he helped her make the descent.

"Okay." Coco mumbled, letting a sigh of encouragement, more to herself than anyone.

"Shall we?" Sinclair asked, squeezing Coco's hand to help ease her nerves, "I can hear Ali speaking with the guild master in this distance, and from the sound of it, everything seems to be going well."

"You could hear them from here?" Coco raised an eyebrow, slightly amazed.

Sinclair merely hummed, nonverbally answering Coco's question as he started walking, tugging her towards the guild's double doors.

Sinclair led Coco towards the hunter guild, his strides long and steady.

They walked along the road, the sound of their footsteps mingling with the sounds of the city as the sun shone down on them, casting long shadows behind them.

As they approached the guild, the chatter of people and the distant sounds of combat became more prominent— battle cries, encouraging shouts, the sound of blade against blade, and heavy footsteps could be heard.

"Is an examination happening today?" Coco asked, her eyes scanning the exterior of the guild building as they approached, her gaze scanning the exterior of the large structure, standing a few stories high above the ground.

She took in the details of the building, her eyes moving from the tall, arched windows to the high stone walls and the detailed carvings that adorned the surface with a mix of stone and metal.

It was obvious that the building was built with durability in mind, with windows that are few in number, likely intended for defensive purposes more than for natural light.

The guild building stood tall and authoritative, its presence commanding attention, the sight of it was both awe-inspiring and intimidating, and Coco couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement as they drew closer.

A single hum from Sinclair was all it took for Coco to snap out of her daze, her attention going back to the hybrid.

"There's always an examination." Sinclair stated, opening the doors for Coco, "Because only a few people are able to pass the first stage of the licensing."

"What..?" Coco's face turned slightly pale.

"Don't worry, master." Sinclair hums and pushes Coco inside, "You will do just fine."

Coco sucked in a sharp breath as she stepped inside the hunter guild, her eyes wide in awe, gaze darting all over the place.
