NBA: The Basketball Miracle

Chapter 7: 7. Regional Semifinals 1

When it comes to the regional semifinals, the attention on the NCAA Tournament soars again.

In the Midwest, the University of Kentucky crushed the entire team, beating Joseph State by 42 points in the first round and Virginia Tech by 24 points in the second round.

Such a huge score difference made many media and commentators who follow the NCAA drop their jaws.

What's even more outrageous is that the University of Kentucky scored 110 points in the first round and 84 points in the second round!

This score is almost catching up with the NBA game. Such a violent attack made many media reporters shout:

"The Kentucky Wildcats showed brutal dominance!"

Other teams in the Midwest that received attention included Wake Forest, and almost all NBA teams threw money in Tim Duncan's face.

In every game, the scouts of each team were almost shouting "Come into my arms!"

However, compared with the University of Kentucky, Wake Forest did not have an easy time in the first two rounds. In the second round, it narrowly defeated the Texas Longhorns 62:65.

Fans who like individual heroism are looking forward to the Midwest Regional Finals.

Antoine Walker from the University of Kentucky faced off against Tim Duncan from Wake Forest. Before the semifinals even started, the media had already started hyping up the two.

One of them is a small forward and the other is a power forward. Even though they play in different positions, no one cares about these details. They are star players, so just do it!

The Southeastern Conference semifinals, where the top-seeded University of Connecticut plays against the fifth-seeded University of Mississippi, is also attracting much attention.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are considered this year's dark horse team. Their regular season record was not outstanding, but after entering the tournament, they were impressive.

Center Eric Dampier's draft stock is getting better and better. He is 2.11 meters tall and weighs 120 kilograms. He showed excellent rebounding and blocking abilities in the championship.

This is an era that belongs to big men.

Although Clay Lee jokes in his heart that he will be the future "No. 1 center in the West", his strength in the NCAA cannot be underestimated.

Coach Calhoun says don't be pressured, but he has been watching a lot of film every day since the team arrived in Lexington, Kentucky.

Ray Allen doesn't talk much and has started training more in recent days.

As a talented player, he had always hoped to get an invitation from the University of Kentucky during high school, but he was ignored and was finally recruited to Connecticut by head coach Calhoun.

The most perfect scenario is that he takes revenge on Kentucky in the finals, beats his opponent and wins the championship.

For this, Ray Allen is full of motivation and does not need any mobilization from the coaching staff. He practices more and adjusts his condition on his own initiative.

Without the Internet and fast news, Lee only found out that the New Mexico Lobos were eliminated by Georgetown after arriving in Lexington.

At first, he almost accepted the invitation and chose the university closest to his home. Lee felt fortunate.

No wonder brotherly basketball will be popular in the future.

After the tactical training class on the afternoon of the 21st, the players can move freely as long as they return to the hotel before 10 p.m.

However, the US dollars Lee had on him did not allow him to go out freely, so he chose to stay in the training hall for additional training.

At present, he is still adapting to [Allen Iverson's excellent ball sense]. This is the first time that Lee has felt top-level talent.

Moves that he could not complete in the past are now easy to accomplish.

Ray Allen looked at Lee dribbling the ball with both hands with gloves on without being affected at all, and for a moment he showed an envious look.

Sometimes having talent means you can do whatever you want. Ray Allen has been working on improving his dribbling ability, but the results are not ideal.

"With your physical condition, you don't need any fancy dribbling or even too much shaking. Just breaking through without losing the ball is enough!"

Ler, who received the ball, immediately gave advice, but Ray Allen shook his head and used the same words as head coach Calhoun:

"It's not just about scoring, I need to do more, just like Michael Jordan!"

Lee helplessly threw the ball to the opponent. Nowadays, everyone likes to imitate Jordan.

By the time of the regional semifinals, some TV stations also began broadcasting the games.

At 21:40 on the evening of the 22nd, the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Connecticut Huskies officially started the game.

This was the third game of the day, and CBS commentator Jim Nantz started praising the top-seeded University of Connecticut right after the start of the game.

Even when this veteran sports reporter saw Ray Allen miss a shot, he would always praise him:

"What a beautiful shooting posture!"

With 8 minutes and 1 second left in the game, head coach Calhoun was frowning, the inside shot was unsuccessful and the outside shot suddenly lost its accuracy.

In this round, Mississippi State University gave the ball to Eric Dampier in the low post on the left side. The latter took the ball with his right hand and then hit it hard.

He forced his way to the basket and made a strong layup against Travis Knight's defense!

The basketball missed the rim due to interference, but Eric Dampier jumped a second time, grabbed the rebound and shot the ball in again.

With such a strong score, cheers immediately broke out in Rupp Arena.

This arena is also the home court of the University of Kentucky. Ray Allen looked unhappy, perhaps because he wanted to show himself too much here. So far, he has only scored 4 points.

18:9, seeing that the score difference was about to reach double digits, coach Calhoun had no choice but to request a timeout.

Eric Dampier was very proud of stopping his opponent. He laughed, raised his head, and punched passionately in the direction of the Mississippi State University fans in the stadium, which caused another cheer from the scene.

Commentator Billy Parker was a little disappointed that Ray Allen's performance at this time was not as good as Daryl Wilson on the opposite side.

The small black guard from Mississippi State University hit 4 three-pointers at the start, fully demonstrating his characteristics:

"Maybe Mississippi State University will continue to play the role of the dark horse tonight. At present, they are the better team."

The team's star player was out of focus, which was the worst possible situation.

Coach Calhoun did not replace Ray Allen, but instead replaced him with Dorent Marshall, who performed mediocrely.

The inside line cannot be moved, both big men have to be on the court, and Kirk King cannot be replaced on the front line, the height on the court must be guaranteed.

The only position that could make adjustments was No. 1. After the timeout, when Lee, wearing a white jersey, came on the court, the University of Connecticut fans at the scene cheered loudly.

Head coach Richard Williams frowned on the sidelines. Through a large amount of game videos, they also noticed Lee's unique playing style.

In the first attack after coming on the court, Daryl Wilson did not take the initiative to lead the defense like the small players of other teams, but kept a small distance.

Such space also allows Lee to dribble the ball calmly. He carries the ball across half court with his left hand, approaches the left wing, and suddenly and quickly passes the ball behind his back.

After switching to his right hand, he immediately lowered his center of gravity and pretended to accelerate.

Noticing that the opponent was sliding along, Lee immediately changed direction in front of his body, then accelerated and broke through with the ball in his left hand.

Daryl Wilson is only 1.85 meters tall and relatively short in stature, but his steps are very agile. He adjusts his center of gravity and slides quickly, sticking closely to Lee's side.

When he came to the three-point line, he accelerated and broke through with the ball in his left hand, then suddenly stopped, and while throwing the ball hard on the spot, he actively moved towards the opponent.

After the collision, Lee took a step back and returned to the three-point line. He created a little space to shoot and immediately passed the ball.

He ignored Daryl Wilson's defense and quickly jumped and shot from the left wing!

"Swish!"

The three-pointer hit the net!

"God! The shot was too fast! This is Clay Lee, a sophomore from the University of Connecticut!"

"Coming into the tournament, Lee has become UConn's leading scorer off the bench!"

Commentator Jim Nantz first exclaimed, then briefly introduced Lee.

The cheers of the fans at the University of Connecticut made head coach Richard Williams look a little unhappy. Looking at Lee who was retreating with a smile, he cursed in his heart:

"What a damn way of playing!"
