Chapter 42: Chapter 42: 3 Minutes
Mike Johnson: "Wade gets the ball—here we go! He turns on the jets, spins past Franklin, and—oh my goodness—he's a blur! No one can stay in front of him!"
Wade shot forward like an arrow, leaving his defender, Franklin, trailing behind. With the lane wide open, he exploded toward the rim.
Kevin Grant: "Aina University's interior defense is nowhere to be found—Wade is all alone! Here comes the dunk—BOOM! He throws it down with authority!"
The crowd erupted as Wade slammed the ball through the hoop with force.
115-111!
For an NCAA game, this was an incredibly high-scoring contest, with both teams putting on an elite performance.
Mike Johnson: "That dunk is a statement! Marquette refuses to go down quietly!"
Wade's play injected energy back into his team. The Marquette players, once tense, now had fire in their eyes.
And just moments later—
Kevin Grant: "Wait a second—Aldington jumps the passing lane and steals it from Müller! Marquette is on the move again!"
Wade reacted in an instant, darting toward the ball like a predator. He scooped it up and pulled up from the baseline for a quick shot.
Mike Johnson: "Wade for two—yes! Nothing but net! It's a two-point game!"
115-113!
Aina University's coach, Boeheim, wasted no time calling a timeout.
Kevin Grant: "And just like that, Wade has single-handedly changed the momentum of this game! Aina was in control, but now they're barely hanging on!"
On the sidelines, Boeheim's expression was serious. He knew Marquette was gearing up for an all-out comeback—possibly even a game-winner.
Mike Johnson: "Boeheim is making adjustments—he knows his team is in trouble. Marquette's energy is on another level right now."
Boeheim huddled his players together.
"We can't relax on defense—especially against Wade and Gall. Marquette will look for any crack in our defense to strike back."
He was certain of one thing: Wade would give everything he had in these final minutes.
Meanwhile, Marquette's coach had a different mindset.
Down by two, he knew they only needed one defensive stop to tie the game—or take the lead.
Kevin Grant: "You can feel the tension now. Marquette's coach isn't even thinking about a three—he just wants to send this game to overtime. And honestly, that might be the right call."
Mike Johnson: "If this goes to OT, Marquette has the advantage. They've got more depth, while Aina University has relied almost entirely on Oliver."
As the timeout ended, both teams returned to the court.
Marquette's defense locked in. Every player was pressing tight, shutting down passing lanes and applying relentless pressure.
Kevin Grant: "This is it! The final stretch! Two-point game, and Aina University needs to hold strong!"
Oliver was immediately swarmed. Three defenders—Andrew, Norton, and Wade—collapsed on him, cutting off his every option.
Mike Johnson: "Oliver is trapped! Three defenders! He can't get a shot off!"
But instead of forcing it, Oliver made the smart play. He passed the ball to Müller, who had found himself momentarily open.
Kevin Grant: "Great pass! Müller for the jumper—oh no! He rushed it!"
The ball clanked off the rim.
Mike Johnson: "That's a huge miss! And Marquette is all over the rebound!"
Gall snatched the board and immediately kicked it out to Wade.
Kevin Grant: "Here comes Wade again! He's off to the races!"
Wade sprinted past half-court with incredible speed. Franklin was the only defender left to stop him.
Mike Johnson: "Franklin's giving chase, but there's no way he catches him—Wade's too fast!"
With one quick step, Wade blew past him and stormed into the paint.
Kevin Grant: "He's going up—floater—off the glass—AND IT DROPS! TIE GAME!"
115-115!
The stadium erupted.
Mike Johnson: "Can you believe this?! In just under a minute, Wade has brought Marquette back from the brink! We are all tied up with one minute left!"
This was the Wade the world would remember—one of the biggest clutch performers in NCAA history.
Aina University's lead had vanished, and now, it was anyone's game.
The Marquette coach quickly called a timeout.
Kevin Grant: "This next play is going to decide everything. If Aina University scores, Marquette has one last shot to respond. If Marquette gets the stop, they could have the final possession!"
On the sidelines, Marquette's coach spoke with authority.
"They'll go to Oliver. We lock him down, we win this game."
Meanwhile, Aina University's players looked shaken. Just minutes ago, they had control. Now, the pressure was crushing.
Mike Johnson: "Aina University needs to dig deep. They have one minute to prove they belong in the Final Four."
Boeheim took a deep breath. He knew this was it.
"Oliver, you run the play. Reeves, be ready for the rebound—this is the most important possession of the game."
The timeout ended.
Kevin Grant: "One minute left. The game is tied. Who wants it more?"
As the players took their positions, the arena buzzed with anticipation.
This final minute would decide everything.
