Chapter 246: | 246 | The Battle for Servusarator: Minos Rebellion Part 2
In the western region of the Island of Servusarator was an expansive camp near a devastated city. The encampment was filled to the brim with soldiers of the Minos Rebellion, who have defected from the United World Government. And with them... Were imprisoned civilians.
The prison camp was constructed to control the opposition of the rebellion whether it'd be political, military, economical, and even the civilian population. It was to ensure that those that didn't agree with their independence would be locked up until the supposed victory of the Minos Rebellion.
Those who resisted even further were brutally killed by the so-called freedom fighters. It was horrific, especially to the civilians who weren't part of the Minokin Tribe. All of them were immediately prisoned without being questioned of their allegiance, suggesting that the Minos Government treats foreign tribes as enemies.
Because of the terrifying actions of the rebellion, the Minos Government has long fallen in popularity. If not for the fact that the Minos Government controlled the military sector of the island completely, the civilian population would have mounted a resistance on their own.
But since the Minos Government had received complete authority over the military. They were completely powerless against the firepower of the rebels.
The only thing they could do was remained in their prison cells, receiving food once a day. A treatment that was far worser than even what the Colonial Dominion of Terra had done to them. It made them realize how their tribe could do so much worse than their supposed enemies.
At any rate, these prison camps were scattered throughout the island of Servusarator. It was estimated that the number of prisoners had reached half a hundred thousand, signifying the bare authority of the Minos Government. They had underestimated the simple fact that their tribe members had long become citizens of the United World Government.
...
Amidst the numerous prison cell of the western prison camp, a lone Minokin trembled from the cold and was in a stupor. He had been separated from his wife and daughter since the beginning of the rebellion as he was amongst the Minokin who had deeply supported the United World Government.
He didn't know if he should regret inadvertently showing his support and loyalty to the UWG. After all, it costed him his wife and daughter. The only thing he could do was hope that they were safe.
However, most importantly, it wasn't right to imprison others because of their support in a political state that wasn't destructive or a dictator. He hadn't even acted in the orders of the UWG, yet he was already imprisoned along with many others from speaking his own thoughts.
It reminded him of the fact that the Minos Government was not so different than the ones that had previously enslaved them, the Colonial Dominion of Terra. It hadn't been long since the creation of the United World Government, so the memories of his and their enslavement was still fresh in his mind.
'I can't believe this... Why am I sitting here not doing anything?' The lone Minokin thought to himself, clenching his fist in annoyance. He was disappointed at himself for not doing anything. He was a husband and a father, there was no way he could simply stand by in the background.
The prison cells within prison camps weren't strong enough to imprison an adult Minokin. But when a Minokin does escape, they would be quickly executed without hesitation and delay. The soldiers of the Minos Rebellion would immediately shoot them in the head.
It was for this reason why no others dared to escape their cells. Those that already tried to do so had already met their unfortunate end. Their bodies piled up and burned for others to see.
The Minokin found it damning for their supposed government and military to change so much in mere days. What was supposed to protect them had become their own murderers and criminals. It was disappointing. They had devastated their changes in becoming better than their former selves.
"I have to get out." He mumbled under his breath, slowly standing up from the cold floor. He gazed forward, determining himself. But before doing so, he turned his gaze towards others who were imprisoned like him. "Although, I cannot do it alone."
Moving his limbs, he walked forward and broke open the cell door with remarkable ease. The other prisoners noticing him were astounded as doing so would result in his execution. But it appears as though he didn't care about what might happen to him.
Standing outside of the prison cell, he turned his attention back at the prisoners. "We are the Minokin! We aren't cowards who would merely sulk in the corners because of the threat of death. Those that dare to take our freedom will meet our bloodied tusks! Even if they were a part of our tribe."
"I am a husband and a father! I must fight for my wife and daughter, regardless of whether or not I would lose my life. We simply can't stay here and sulk, waiting for the United World Government to save us from our prison. We warriors, not cowards!"
His words resounded in the grounds where hundreds of cells surrounded. However, despite his speech, no one replied, leaving him disappointed. 'It seems that I'll have to do everything myself.' But before he could move forward, many more cells were broken as Minokins emerged from the darkness of cowardice.
"You're right... It hasn't been long since we were formerly a tribe. I cannot believe we have lost the spark of a warrior because of peace." An old Minokin remarked, walking towards the him. The lone Minokin nodded in agreement and continued. "We have to fight for our freedom!" Read exclusive chapters at empire
"We mustn't let it be handed to us! History must not remember the Minokins as cowards who can't even take their freedom for themselves!" His words earned the cheers of dozens upon dozens of Minokins. And it didn't even end there.
"And so what if they had rifles! We have been fighting with our bodies during our rebellion against the Colonial Dominion! Rifles wouldn't even be enough to conquer the spark in our hearts! The spark for freedom!" The Minokins surrounding him gave their war cries.
On the other hand, the prison guard noticed the chaos unfolding in one of the sectors within the prison camp. But before they could react, a group of dark-suited soldiers emerged out of nowhere and swiftly disposed of nearby prison guards.
The lone Minokin who was preparing for a bloody battle saw a rifle being thrown at him. Catching it with ease, the group of dark-suited soldiers walked towards them with their rifles pointed downward. Their faces were covered in black masks, yet the lone Minokin already knew a part of their identities.
"I was wondering why the prison guards hadn't reacted yet. The United World Government is as fast as always." The lone Minokin remarked, his words echoing in the nearby surroundings. The UWG had been quick in their reaction time. It hasn't been a day since the rebellion and operatives had already been sent into the island to cause internal chaos.
"We didn't expect you Minokins to make moves on your own without outside influence. We are impress..." The leader of the black-suited soldiers uttered to the lone Minokin. Usually, they would have to free prisoners from their cells to fight for the cause of freedom.
It was surprising to see prisoners already out from their cells, preparing to fight to the death against those that had taken their freedoms.
"Thank you for your praise, Am I right to believe that the United World Government had began their invasion into the island of Servusarator?" The old Minokin was the one to respond from the remarks of the leader. He was experienced in the military, though he had already retired after fighting in the first rebellion of Servusarator.
"The answer to your question is confidential, but we will be assisting you in taking over the prison camp. After all, none of you deserved to be imprisoned by the Minos Rebels." The leader of the black-suited soldiers wasn't keen in answering the old Minokin's question, but stated why they were in the prison camp.
"Understood, how do we go about in taking over the prison camp?" The lone Minokin questioned the leader, who calmly responded. "The most important part of an occupation is to ensure that you are the one with the most arsenal."
"While freeing others from their prison cells and rallying them, we should also take over the armory and get their arsenal for ourselves. We can handle the armory, but you will have to rally nearby, so that the captured weapons could be used."
"That makes sense. We will free others and rally near the armory. We will await your weapons, Sir." The lone Minokin nodded in understanding and waved his hand, calling over his brethren. They would have to free the prisoners of the prison camp, but he needed to find his family first.
Meanwhile, the leader merely glanced at the lone Minokin for a moment before turning his attention away. "Let's take over the armory as swiftly as possible." His men nodded in agreement, walking beside him, preparing for a firefight.
However, before two groups could walk far from each other, an explosion resounded in the background.
*BOOM!!!*
The alarm bells of the prison camp rang as the ground slightly trembled from the incredibly force of the explosion. The leader furrowed his eyebrows, realizing that the assault had already begun. "This is our chance. Quickly occupy the armory!" He ordered with determination.
Outside of the prison camp, explosions brightened the landscape as military bases were being bombarded into damnation by the Aegis Fleet. The Minos Rebels couldn't mount a significant defense against the assault, and could only hide in their bunkers until the bombardment calmed down.
It had finally begun.
