Naruto's jumper twin brother

Chapter 4: Chapter four

Timeskip 3 years.

POV: MENMA.

Three years. That's how long it's been. Three annoying years. Three years since I stumbled into this absurd world. Two years since I was unceremoniously shipped off to an orphanage, and one year since the infamous demon fox hunting festival kicked off.

Life in the orphanage was pretty decent for the first couple of months. We were treated like normal kids—well, as normal as you can be when you're a reincarnated soul. But once the rumours started swirling about us being the reincarnations of the nine-tailed fox, everything changed. Our meals shrank faster than a ninja's self-esteem after losing a battle. Chores doubled, punishments were handed out like candy, and bullying became a full-time job for some of the older kids.

But I wasn't about to let these wannabe bullies or obnoxious extras push me around, especially not when it came to my brother. So, I fought back. Picture this: a pint-sized three-year-old—a solid ball of fire and determination—taking on a twelve-year-old chubby kid. Yeah, that was me, the underdog in a very surreal boxing match. "Ahhh, memories," I chuckled to myself, a bitter smile creeping across my face as Naruto, bless his heart, wiped the dirt and blood from my nose with his shirt sleeve.

And there he was, my brave little brother, crying silently, a snot bubble forming from one of his nostrils like a weirdly adorable creature.

"Stop crying already and clean yourself up, Naruto," I said, struggling to get my footing on the muddy ground. I couldn't help but smirk at the ridiculousness of it all. Here we were, two scrappy kids in an orphanage, battling the world—one snot-filled moment at a time.

My pride was kinda hit when I lost a fight to that kid, but hey, it ain't that bad. I gave him a pretty nasty bite mark on his right arm.

I pulled Naruto off the ground and looked him straight in the eye and said, " It's us against the world, so stand tall, be proud, never give up and make these fuckers believe we are more than meets the eye." I used my sleeve to wipe his tears and snot.

" Yeah, we will make them believe it." He replied with a toothy grin on his face.

"We better go back to the orphanage; don't you think so?" I said.

"Yeah, I don't want that old granny to punish us again. Hell, she took our supper yesterday night, and I saw her give it to Gema." He whispered in my ear as if he was telling me a world-destroying secret.

Sometimes, I feel like this kid has a dual personality. He can flip from the worst situations we're in, just to give a toothy smile.

*As I was still contemplating my brother's mental health, we heard a loud sound from the forest, and I couldn't help but crack a joke. "Well, either Bigfoot just stubbed his toe, or nature is trying to get my attention!" My brother shot me a look that said, "Seriously?" But honestly, at that moment, I was more worried about whether we needed to put together an emergency rescue team or just grab some popcorn for the spectacle. Who knew a walk in the woods could turn into a horror movie audition?

You see, in my past life, such sounds in an empty forest were just signs of very bad things, so I immediately looked for my brother's hand so that we could bolt from there, only to find it absent.

Looking around for the kid only to see him sprinting towards the direction of the sound.

It's like my blood pressure has its own workout routine thanks to this kid! One minute I'm just trying to catch my breath, and the next, I'm in a full-on sprint, chasing down the speed demon. I swear, if my body could talk, it would be sending me a "please slow down" memo!

I finally catch up to him, and his wide eyes are a mix of surprise and pure joy. "Menma!" he exclaims, his voice filled with excitement. It's like all the chaos melts away for a moment. I can't help but grin at his enthusiasm.

"What's got you running like a wild animal?" I ask, trying to catch my breath. He takes a second to gather his thoughts before bursting out, "! It's so cool! You have to see!"

His energy is contagious, and despite my earlier fatigue, I can't resist being pulled into his adventure. Maybe this won't be that dangerous if it got him this excited

And lo and behold, two ninjas were fighting, and for some reason, they looked familiar.

"Look!" he shouted, pointing breathlessly at the scene unfolding before us. Two ninjas were engaged in an intense battle, their movements a blur as they darted around each other, showcasing skills I could only dream of. It was like watching a high-stakes performance, full of acrobatics and precision.

I squinted, trying to make out their features amidst the chaos. And then it hit me—these weren't just any ninjas; they were shisui and Itachi. I had come across them on one of my many endeavours in the village and saw them with a kid who looked three or four who I presumed to be Sasuke.

One of them, a tall figure dressed in a deep blue outfit, launched a series of shurikens that sparkled in the sunlight. The other, shorter and slim clad in sleek black, dodged effortlessly, rolling into a swift counter-attack. I tugged the kid closer, not wanting him to get too close to the fray, but my curiosity was piqued. What could have caused this sudden clash?

The kid bounced on his toes, practically vibrating with excitement. "Let's go closer!" he urged, eyes wide with thrill.

"Are you crazy? We can't just barge in there!" I replied, heart racing at the thought of drawing attention to ourselves.

But as if hearing my thoughts, one of the ninjas suddenly precariously balanced on a nearby tree near us, casting a lingering glance in our direction. His eyes narrowed glowing a dark red, and for a split second, I thought he recognized me. My breath caught in my throat as the weight of the moment hung in the air.

"Look out!" I shouted as I noticed a cloud of smoke gathering around the two fighters. It quickly enveloped them, obscuring our view, and my instincts kicked in. I instinctively pulled the kid back, my heart pounding louder than the rapid movements of the ninjas.

Suddenly, the smoke erupted, revealing the fighters now engaged in a series of intense hand-to-hand combat moves. They slid, punched, and blocked—it was a whirlwind of action that had everyone holding their breath. My pulse quickened as I watched, the tension alive in the air.

"Whoa!" the kid exclaimed, leaning forward to get a better look. The energy around us shifted as animals in the forest began to gather, drawn by the noise.

Just then, the ninja in black performed a breathtaking flip and landed right in front of us, his eyes fierce and determined. The moment felt electric. "You shouldn't be here!" he shouted, but before I could react, a flash of light exploded behind him, creating a barrier between us and the fight.

"Itachi, don't ignore me when am kicking your ass," Shisui said with a smirk on his face and his Sharingan spinning faster.

"Run!" I yelled, instinctively grabbing the kid's arm, but he was already moving, a mix of thrill and fear lighting up his face as we sprinted back. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through me, a mix of exhilaration and panic. What had we stumbled into, and would we be able to escape this nonsense unscathed?

One moment, we're running, and the other, we are dangling in the air as Shisui held us in the air by our arms.

"So tell me what are you doing in a freaking forest this late?" He said.

"Ahhmm would you believe me if I said we were hunting." I said in a feigned calm voice knowing full well we were in trouble.

"Haha, a four-year-old hunting, don't make me laugh."He shot back with a chuckle.

"Could you kindly let us go? We have to make our way back to the orphanage, and the children are counting on us!" I said desperately, my voice rising in pitch with each word.

"I can't really leave you in a forest, can I?" Shisui replied, feigning seriousness.

He smirked, crossing his arms. "Sure, but I doubt you'd survive the fierce squirrels. Have you seen how determined they are? They're like tiny, furry ninjas!"

At this point, both Naruto and Itachi were looking at us in confusion.

"Right? They probably have a secret society with a dojo," I laughed. "You'll find out when you wake up one morning and they're all doing tai chi in your backyard."

"Next thing you know, they'll be demanding tribute in the form of acorns—or worse, your snacks!" He chuckled, clearly amused.

"Okay, deal! I'll bring you a muffin if you let us go," I suggested with a mock-serious tone, even though the words stung my adult pride.

"A muffin?" He raised an eyebrow skeptically. "What if I want a cupcake? I mean, it's a forest; there have to be some perks to it, right?"

"Fine! Cupcake it is. Just let us pass before I have to negotiate a pastry treaty!" I replied, knowing full well that we didn't have enough money to buy a sweet. 'Ah, the life of a poor man.'

With a resigned sigh and a playful roll of the eyes, he relented, "Alright, adventurers, your quest begins! Just remember, I'm counting on that cupcake."

"Don't worry; it'll be the best cupcake ever! Now, which way to the exit? I'd like to avoid the ninja squirrels along the way."

"Shisui-senpai, you know full well we aren't supposed to talk to these two," Itachi said, finally speaking since the whole incident began.

"Itachi, would you leave Sasuke in a forest all alone?" Shisui shot back, clearly hitting a sensitive spot, and Itachi visibly frowned.

"Okay, then, I'll find you in the clan compound, but you'd better make it fast," he replied before vanishing at incredible speed.

Next thing we knew, we were on Shisui's shoulders, being carried like sacks of potatoes while he ran with us.

The wind in my hair did nothing to alleviate the stress in my mind after witnessing their fight.

If they aren't even at the top of the food chain right now, what are we up against?

Then a memory flashed in my mind: "Prepare Menma Namikaze. Five years, five years until you die." I couldn't count how many nightmares I had because of that horned bastard.

"Here you are," Shisui said as he set us down.

"And remember, you owe me a cookie." He said and disappeared.

We looked at the doors of the orphanage, fully aware of what awaited us.
