Naruto's Hashira Journey

(Weeks passed...)

It had been weeks since the formation of Team 7. After three days they were finally able to do D-rank missions, which they immediately got disappointed when they realised that these "missions" are actually chores requested by the villagers

Sasuke complained "Why are we doing chores? We should be out there doing real missions!" He said irritated that he was doing this

Kakashi looks up from his book and blankly told them "You guys are just Genin's. Deal with it"

All of them sweat drop at Kakashi's response so they just shut up and do the chores

In the forest a shadow like figure is jumping through the trees followed by team 7

It leaped through a bush and team 7 is hiding behind the trees, the bush on their sights

Somewhere in the area Kakashi Comms them

"What's the distance of the target?" He questioned

"5 meters. I'm ready to proceed" said Naruto looking at the target

"So am I" Sasuke replied with a focused look ready to pounce

"Me too" Sakura replied

"Ok"

"Go!" Kakashi issued the order as team 7 charged at the target

The figure caught by surprise. Sakura seized the opportunity and caught it, revealing it to be a brown cat with brown lines and a red ribbon on the right ear

"I caught it!" Sakura celebrate but was cut short when the cat named Tora started using fury swipes at her face, hissing

"Nyaaa!"

"Agh! Wait- not my face- AHH!" Sakura became the victim of Tora's swipes, leaving countless scratch marks on her face

"Ribbon on the left ear... Are you sure it's Tora?"

"Yeah, we're sure" Sasuke reported to Kakashi

While on the background Naruto tries to help Sakura

"Good. Lost pet "Tora" search mission is complete!" Kakashi announced

"Sasuke-kun please help me!"

Sasuke heard her voice. As soon as he turns around he saw Tora pounced at him, claws out and clung on Sasuke's head and started scratching his face

"Nyaaa!" Tora hissed

"Aaaahhhhh!" Sasuke started screaming like Tom from Tom and Jerry

Furiously trying to get the cat off of him but can't as it's claws dug on his skin refusing to let go

Naruto saw this and sighed tiredly and started calling for Tora

"Tora, come here. Please stop scratching his face" Naruto called out to the cat

Tora looked at him for a few seconds and just obeyed. She unhooked her claws from Sasuke's face and started walking towards Naruto

'For some reason, I feel at ease at this one...' Those were Tora's thoughts as she lets Naruto pick her up and strokes her head

'Eh whatever, at least I scratched those two' as she enjoys the headpats. Meanwhile Sakura and Sasuke glared at Tora furiously with a dark look on their face

Back at the village inside the mission assignment desk, we see Tora getting hugged to death by her owner named Madam Shijimi, who was overjoyed that her cat was found

'That's what you get stupid cat' Sakura and Sasuke thought, both had a smug look enjoying the cats suffering

'Huh, no wonder it always ran off' Naruto thought

"Now... Kakashi's team 7 your next duty is..." Hiruzen begun to announce their next "mission"

"Hmm... Babysitting an elder's grandson, shopping in the neighboring village, and help with potato digging" he was about to continue but Naruto cut him off

"Um no offence Jiji but can we actually have a real mission this time instead of... Well this" Naruto said gesturing to the scroll on hiruzens hand

'i agree' Sasuke gave a nod to Naruto's words

'he is right I'm getting sick of this' Sakura also agreed

Kakashi is just reading his book but acknowledge Naruto's words

Iruka was about to scold Naruto but Hiruzen raised his hand making Iruka to sit back down and ponders a bit

"Hmm... Ok if you want it that much, I'll give you a C-rank mission. It's a protection mission of a certain individual" Hiruzen said

All of team 7 was surprised and finally happy they got a real mission instead of chores

"So who are we protecting?" Naruto asked

"You can come in now" Hiruzen called out the client

As soon the door opened, the smell of alcohol penetrated everyone's nose causing them to cover it

In came a old man, clearly drunk with booze on hand. As soon he saw team 7 he complained

"What's this? I asked for shinobi not some brats" the old man said as he took a sip of booze

"Especially that emo boy and a girl with a large forehead. The only one normal here is that kid in a kimono" he said leaning on the door frame

Both Sasuke and Sakura got mad on the old man's words they were about to give him a piece of their mind but luckily Kakashi prevented that

"Are you our client?" He asked

"Yeah my name is Tazuna, I'm a super expert bridge builder. I expect you to provide me protection until I get back to my country and complete the bridge" Tazuna said

"Don't worry we will" Kakashi assured him

"You three go get ready we'll meet at the entrance" Kakashi said to the three of them

They both nod and exited the premises, preparing for their mission

Now at the entrance Tazuna was waiting for Team 7 to arrive

"Geez, what's the hold up" he said while drinking another bottle of booze

He saw a familiar color of blond and red approaching him. He saw Naruto arrived with a new look, he's wearing a dark cyan-tinted version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform with buttoned white leg-wrapped kyahan and a pair of white zōri with dark blue straps and tabi socks underneath being the same cyan color as his uniform. Over this, wearing a haori that's split down the middle into two different patterns: the right one a solid dark red, and the left one geometrically patterned with rhombi of green, orange, and yellow

Naruto arrived with a backpack of supplies and clothes. He saw Tazuna but didn't see his other teammates and Sensei

"Hello Tazuna-san, am I the only one who arrived?" Naruto greeted and asked him

Tazuna gave a nod and said "yeah your two other friends and Sensei isn't here yet"

Tazuna looked at Naruto, specifically his hair and asked "you not gonna tie it up?" Gesturing Naruto's hair

Naruto shook his head "nope I like it this way"

He nodded "well you do you kid. Nice earrings by the way" finishing his booze and throwed it at the trash

For a few minutes they finally saw and angry Sakura and Sasuke with Kakashi behind them

"What took you guys so long?" Naruto asked them

"It's all Kakashi-sensei's fault! Me and Sasuke-kun have been trying to peel him away from that new Icha Icha book from the convenience store" she said pointing at Kakashi

"Hahaha. Well let's not worry about that, now that we're here let's get a move on!" Kakashi said

"Ummm. Am I really gonna be safe with those three protecting me?" Tazuna asked Kakashi, pointing at the three of them

The three heard this and sported expression's on their face. Sakura mad, Sasuke narrowed his eyes, and Naruto got a bulged vein on his forehead

Kakashi seeing this prevented another ticking time bomb by saying "Don't worry I'm a Jonin so it will be fine"

"Well, if you say so" Tazuna said, putting on his straw hat

Now they embarked on their journey to the land of Waves

It's been a few days since they left the village, things have been quiet... Too quiet

Kakashi was nonchalant but his guard was up and will strike at any moment of attack. Same to Sakura, Sasuke and Naruto

"Ummm.. Tazuna-san?" Sakura engaged a conversation with Tazuna

"What?"

"Your from the land of Waves, right?" She asked

"What about it?"

"Ummm... Kakashi-sensei? Do they have shinobi there too?" She asked Kakashi about it

"No, not in the land of Waves. But... In most other countries... May be different but hidden villages exist and so do shinobi" Kakashi explained to her

"But don't worry, we won't encounter foreign shinobi on this mission" Kakashi said

Tazuna flinched but was noticed by Naruto and Sasuke

They encountered a puddle but thought none of it except Naruto and Kakashi

'there hasn't been rain for a few days...' Naruto thought

'...but why is there a puddle this big?' Kakashi finished Naruto's thought

After being a few meters away from the puddle. Something emerged from it. Two shinobi wearing forehead protector of some village, immediately attacked Kakashi by one of them leaped forward Infront of him. Their gauntlet's linked to a chain binded Kakashi, getting a shocked look from everyone

"One down"

As they pulled hardly causing Kakashi to get ripped to pieces. All of them shocked and didn't move tried to process what just happened. But the two shinobi appeared behind Naruto and said "two down"

Sakura immediately put herself Infront of Tazuna while Sasuke tried to help Naruto

As the shinobi are about to kill him. Naruto grabbed tightly his katana

"Water breathing second form:.."

He quickly unsheathed his katana and reared horizontally

"..Improved, Lateral Water Wheel!" Naruto unleashed a powerful horizontal sharp water wheel aiming for their torsos

"Nani!" They both shouted as they try to defend against it by using their gauntlet's but we're too late as the water wheel sliced off their arms with the gauntlet

Sasuke seeing this dashed forward and knocked them out

Now with the two shinobi bleeding out and unconscious they turned to Kakashi's position

"Kakashi-sensei!" Shouted Naruto

"Don't worry I'm here" they heard his voice and turned to the direction and saw him fine

"Don't worry my cute little genin I substituted at the last second and decided to observe how you guys will do" he reassured them, causing them a sigh of relief

"Sakura good job on prioritising Tazuna's safety, Naruto and Sasuke good job subduing the enemy" he said eyeing each of them

The three of them smiled at his praise but Kakashi continued

"..but what I wanted to know is why kirigakure missing-nin is onto you. You can answer that, right? Tazuna-san" Kakashi now serious eyed Tazuna, causing the old man to get nervous

"Kakashi-sensei! One of them is waking up!" Shouted Sakura

Kakashi looked at the down Kiri shinobi. The one who woke up asked

"H-how did you read...our movements?" Said the shinobi

"You guys dumb or something. On a sunny day like this, there's been no rain for days. You expect us to ignore the suspicious large puddle on the ground like nothing?" Naruto said, looking at the downed dumbasses. Kakashi nodded at this

The shinobi once again passed out due to blood loss

"Well with that out of the way. Mind telling us the truth Tazuna-san. This is now at least a B-rank mission, but you said to protect you from bandits not shinobi. So just tell us everything now" Kakashi said eyeing Tazuna

Tazuna under pressure break down and started spilling everything from how a dangerous rich man named Gato is after his life, on how poor the land of Waves are that they couldn't issue a higher rank mission. He then tried to guilt trip Kakashi by saying how his daughter and grandson will be sad if they didn't continue

Kakashi was about to decline but was stopped by Naruto

"Kakashi-sensei let's keep going" Naruto said

All of them shocked at his answer except Kakashi who wants to know why

"Hmm, why should we continue, Naruto?" He asked wanting to know his students reason

"Well we got here this far and I won't just quit while innocents are suffering. So yes that's my reason" Naruto said, determined to complete the mission

"Yeah he's right" Sasuke and Sakura agreed with Naruto

Kakashi looked at Naruto's eyes for a while and smiled at his determination, he patted his head

"Well said Naruto. All right Tazuna we'll continue the mission" Kakashi said gaining a smile from Tazuna

"Come on team let's keep moving!"

Sasuke looked at Naruto and snorted 'show off' but smiled

Sakura pumped and determine, walked with Sasuke

Kakashi looked at Naruto and his eye soften

'Kushina-san, Minato-sensei. Your son has grown up' he said in thought

They finally arrived at the land of Waves via boat. After thanking the fisherman they continue enroute to Tazuna's house

Naruto felt that someone was watching them. He slowed down a bit and try to figure out where the feeling is

Trusting his gut he threw a shuriken towards the bushes, alerting everyone

"Naruto! What are you doing?!" Sakura asked

"I thought someone was onto us" he replied

Kakashi goes to the bushes and saw a white rabbit frozen in fear when the shurikens hit a tree trunk on top of its head

"You almost hit the poor rabbit!" Sakura said

'weird why is the rabbits fur white. It's the middle of spring' Kakashi thought

Sensing danger he yelled out "GET DOWN!"

Everyone immediately drop to the ground as a large sword came flying in their direction and hit a tree. Suddenly someone appeared and stands at the handle of the sword, his back facing Kakashi and looked at them. He has bandages covered his mouth, army styled straps on the forearms and calves, his forehead protector facing sideways

'who is that?' Sasuke thought

"Well well, if it isn't the hidden mist's missing-nin Zabuza Momochi of the seven swordsmen of the mist" Kakashi said recognised him

"I must be blessed. No wonder the demon brothers didn't stand a chance. They encountered you, Kakashi the copy ninja. The man who copied a thousand Jutsu's" Zabuza said, amused at the situation

"Everyone surround Tazuna and protect him, do not enter the fight. This guy is on a whole another level..." Kakashi grabbed his forehead protector covering his eye and moved it

"Zabuza, you want the old man? Fight me first" Kakashi said, revealing his three tomoe sharingan

'what?!' Sasuke shocked at the revelation

'whats...that eye?' Sakura said in thought

'this can't be good' Naruto said in thought, looking at their situation

"Ah. I already get to see the famous sharingan. I'm honoured"

"Enough chitchat I'm here to kill the old man, but looks like I have to kill you first Kakashi!" Zabuza grabbed his sword and launched himself on the

Lake and stands on the surface, he made hand seals and yelled

"Kirigakure no Jutsu!"

Mist made of chakra started to appear and cloud their vision as Zabuza disappeared from their sights

"What the- Where'd the mist come from?!" Tazuna exclaimed

Sakura and Sasuke formed around Tazuna while Naruto quickly made a hand seal

"Kage bunshin no Jutsu"

He conjured four shadow clones and quickly ordered them to cover the rear

"Be careful! Zabuza is an expert on the silent killing art. He'll come after me first" Kakashi warned them

"Eight choices" they heard zabusa's voice but couldn't tell where as they hear it everywhere

"Liver.. lungs.. spine.. clavical vein.. neck vein.. brain.. kidneys.. heart"

"Which one should I go after?" Everyone is on high alert trying to pinpoint Zabusa's position

They suddenly felt his killing intent. It was so intense that Sakura started to cry. Sasuke so shaken up of fear from the killing intent, he can't breathe properly

Naruto's sweat drop, clutching his katana, ready to slice. He experienced killing intent when he was little, in the village. But that doesn't mean he's immune to it

"Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura. Don't worry, I'll protect you guys even if it kills me. I don't let my comrades die" Kakashi said

Touched by their Sensei's words. They suddenly heard

"Let's see about that"

They heard it at the middle. They turn around and saw Zabuza, crouched and ready to swing his sword

'how did he bypass the clones?!' Naruto thought

But Kakashi immediately dashed forward and intercept Zabuza's swing with a kunai, stabbing him

Kakashi noticed water leaking, not blood

'water clone?!'

"Kakashi-sensei!! behind you!!" Naruto shouted

Kakashi looked behind him and saw Zabuza swung his sword at Kakashi, cleaving him into two

But he noticed water instead of blood and guts

'a water clone?! He copied my Jutsu!'

"Don't move!" He heard Kakashi's voice behind him and felt a sharp cold pointed tip of the kunai at the side of his neck

"It's over" Kakashi declared

But Zabuza started laughing. Kakashi narrowed his eyes

"You think it's over? You think you could win with your monkey-like imitations"

Zabuza started to turn liquid as the real one appears behind Kakashi

"I'm not that easy"

'shit!' Kakashi cursed his carelessness

They begun to fight, a large sword against a kunai. Zabuza swung his sword aiming at Kakashi's head but he dodged it. Kakashi tried to counter attack but was blocked by the large blade

Kakashi tried to find an opening but couldn't as Zabuza kept swinging his sword, not giving him any chances to think

They clashed blades but was obvious that Kakashi's hand trembled against the swords weight

"You've gotten rusty" Zabuza taunted

Zabuza raised his sword and swung to slice Kakashi in half but he easily dodge it, though the ground cracked under the force of the swing

Kakashi started getting on the offense and used the sharingan to anticipate Zabuza's moves. Zabuza tried a horizontal swing but Kakashi quickly dodged it and with a reversed grip on his kunai, tried to stab him but Zabuza easily dodge it as well

"Enough!" Zabuza yelled and charged towards Kakashi and smacked him away using the flat side of the blade

Kakashi land on the water but he felt something wrong

'the waters heavy' he thought

"Heh, fool" Zabuza appeared behind kakashi

'when did he-'

"Suirō no Jutsu!"

The water around Kakashi encased him. Trapping him in a water sphere

"With you out of the way I could finally do my job" he said, he conjured a water clone on his side and approached Tazuna and the others

"You brats aren't even shinobi, wearing your forehead protector and calling yourselves one. A real shinobi is someone who had survived numerous brushes with death"

"Once your good enough in my handbook... Then you can call yourselves shinobi"

Zabuza's water clone unsheathed its sword and walked towards them

"Everyone run! You have to get Tazuna to safety! His water clone can't go far away from his real body while he trapped me here! Just run away now!" Kakashi yelled to them

Sasuke had an uneasy face not knowing what to do. Sakura and Tazuna knew the situation got worse and was ready to call the two boys and run away

"Stop saying nonsense sensei!" Naruto screamed at Kakashi. All of them got shocked expressions while Zabuza raised his eyebrow

"You think just running away is gonna solve it!"

"Naruto just do as i-"

"Hell no, even if we run he's gonna hunt us after he kills you" Naruto exclaimed shooting daggers at Zabuza

"Heh. I like that look kid, yeah after I kill Kakashi I'm going after you brats next" he goaded

"Oh yeah? On your left"

Zabuza narrows his eyes thinking what he's saying. His senses alerted him to the left, he sidestepped and saw Naruto who tried to slice him, same goes for the water clone

'what?!' both Zabuza and the water clone thought

"Sakura, now!" Naruto said

Sakura threw kunai's tied with explosive seals at the water clone while it was distracted by the shadow clone

The water clone noticed this and got away from the kunai's trajectory. Suddenly, the thrown kunais transformed back into Naruto, his katana reared. The water clone caught off guard of this and was suddenly sliced in half. But it quickly assembled back together and sucker punch Naruto on the gut

"Ungrateful brat!" Said the furious water clone

Suddenly, Naruto dispersed to smoke revealing it to be a clone

The water clone was attacked by Sasuke, who finally gain the courage and used a long range Jutsu

He quickly weaved hand seals "Katon: Hōsenka no Jutsu" he exhaled fire and threw shurikens, combining the two, aimed at the target

The fire shurikens hit their target. The water clone still standing with shurikens sticking in the body of water

The water clone growled and looked at the genins in fury. It noticed something or someone is missing

'wait, where's the pink-' it's thought was cut off when it was pounded to the ground by Sakura and Naruto

"Cha!" Sakura cried

The water clone dispersed. Zabuza, Kakashi, and Tazuna shocked on the scene before them

'damn! Who knew these kids are strong. I seriously underestimated them' Tazuna thought

Kakashi saw this and couldn't help but to be proud of his team

'you guys... Your teamwork paid off'

"Yosh! The plan work!" Naruto said with a smirk

"Hn" Sasuke agreed as he took had a smirk

"I did it. I finally did it! My training paid off!" Celebrated Sakura as she feels not useless

"Don't celebrate yet Sakura. We still have to free sensei" Sasuke reminded her

Zabuza angered by this "you think you brats can take me?! You will be dead in seconds!!" He yelled out

"No.."

"..but he can" Sasuke taunted him

Zabuza angry but confused, he sensed danger above. He looked up and saw Naruto his katana raised above him

"Water breathing second form: Water Wheel!"

He front flipped and produced a water wheel about to slice Zabuza in half

'shit! If I let go I'll let Kakashi out! No choice..'

Zabuza retracted his arm and dodged the water wheel. Kakashi fell on the surface of water and gasped for air

"Kakashi-sensei!" Sakura screamed and run towards Kakashi pulling him out of the water

"Are you all right" asked Tazuna as he and Sasuke followed Sakura behind

"I just... need... a minute" Kakashi said panting

"Wait- Naruto!" He looked towards where Naruto is and saw him engaging Zabuza in kenjutsu

Naruto and Zabuza clashed, they try to overwhelm each other

"You got skills kid, I'll give you that" Zabuza impressed by Naruto's kenjutsu skills

Naruto took a deep breath and focused

"Water breathing first form: Surface Slash"

He slashed horizontally to attack. Zabuza blocked it as it came fast and almost slashed his neck but was pushed back

'what kind of Jutsu is that?' Zabuza thought

Zabuza parried and slashed at him but Naruto easily avoided it

'his movements...'

Zabuza kept trying to land a hit on him but no matter what he couldn't as Naruto kept avoiding him, flowing like water

Changing tactics Zabuza disappeared in the mist, trying to catch Naruto by surprise

Naruto saw this. 'in that case' he thought

"Wind breathing Fourth form: Rising Dust Storm!"

In a high stance he unleashed a cyclone of sharp winds. The strong winds caused the mist to clear up, now seeing Zabuza's figure

He backed away when the cyclone appeared but not unscathed. His chest and arms have cuts, bleeding all over caused by the sharp winds

"That..was dangerous. What the hell is Konoha teaching these kids?" He panted

Zabuza eyed Naruto, wary of him. He tried to come up a plan but was attacked by a recovered Kakashi

Zabuza blocked but with difficulty due to the cuts on his arms

"I'm not done yet" growled Kakashi, he glares at Zabuza with his sharingan spinning

"Tch!"

He parried Kakashi away and backed up to gain distance and started weaving long hand seals for a powerful Jutsu. Kakashi with his sharingan copied Zabuza's movements and the both yelled out

"Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu!"

"Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu!"

Both of them mould the water creating a dragon as their Jutsu's clashed. Naruto immediately got away from their fight, joined up with the others and started spectating them

The Jutsu's was so strong it cancelled both water dragons. Zabuza infuriated weaved hand seals again, seeing Kakashi doing the same, copying his movements as he stares at him with his sharingan

'what the hell? It's like he's-'

"..Reading my mind" Kakashi finished Zabuza's thought causing him to widened his eyes in shock

He saw Kakashi finished his hand seals faster than him

'nani! But how-'

"Suiton: Daibakufu no Jutsu!"

Kakashi exhaled a large vortex of water hitting Zabuza and it's path. Naruto and the others shocked of the amount of water Kakashi used

"He must've used a lot of chakra to do this Jutsu" Naruto muttered

Sasuke looked at Naruto but didn't say anything. Feeling angry at himself for showing fear, and jealous of Naruto being able to fight against Zabuza

'how could I kill Itachi if I couldn't even fight against a strong shinobi' he thought

As the water subsided, we see Zabuza coughing at the ground. He leans on the tree clutching his broken arm

He looked up and saw Kakashi standing on the branch

"Tell me...can you see the future...with that eye?" Zabuza asked, panting

"Yeah. And your future is death" Kakashi said gripped his kunai, ready to finish him

But suddenly, something fast was thrown at Zabuza, specifically his neck. The needle like projectiles hit their mark and Zabuza's eyes rolled in his head and fall face down

Kakashi and the other couldn't believe what just happened. A shinobi suddenly appeared wearing a mask, concealing it's identity

"Your right. His future is death" the unknown shinobi said

Kakashi wanted to confirm it. He crouched down and checked for Zabuza's pulse. Feeling none he announced

"Yeah. He is dead"

"Kakashi-sensei..." Naruto still wary about the stranger

"Don't Naruto, he's a Hunter-nin from Kirigakure" Kakashi warned Naruto to not engage

"He's right, now if you excuse me I'll be disposing his body. It contains too much secrets of the village. Farewell" the stranger picked up Zabuza's body and shunshined away

Kakashi breathe a sigh of relief and put down his forehead protector back to cover his eye

"Glad that's over" he took a step and almost fall if not for Naruto there supporting him with his shadow clones

"Careful Kakashi-sensei, you've exhausted your chakra"

"Yeah. I really did get rusty" Kakashi admitted

"Come let's go straight to my house now that's over, you can rest there" Tazuna said

Kakashi nodded and team 7 walked once again to Tazuna's house

For a minute or so they've arrived and Tazuna called someone inside

"Tsunami, it's me I'm home!"

The door opened and the one who opened was Tazuna's daughter

"Dad! You're back. Quick come inside" she told them as they politely greeted her

As they entered tsunami called for her son Inari but didn't replied back. She opens a room and told Naruto that Kakashi can rest here. Thanking her, he put Kakashi down on the futon and Kakashi and told him to rest

"Don't worry I'll be back in tip top shape" he assured them and went asleep

Naruto sat down with Sasuke and Sakura and try to think what to do next

(Konoha)

Back in Konoha, inside the Hokage's office. Hiruzen is smoking his pipe while reviewing the paperwork

The door opened, hearing this he looked up and saw Danzo entered

"What is it, Danzo?" Wanted to know why he is here

"Hiruzen, you've sent the jinchuriki outside the village. He could've been killed or worse kidnapped. We can't let the jinchuriki roamed outside, if other villages realized he's a jinchuriki of the kyuubi, our village would lose another factor of power" Danzo said coldly while staring at Hiruzen with his cold calculating eyes

Hiruzen exhaled smoke and said "Is that all? And don't worry, Kakashi is there as his Jonin sensei. If there is trouble ahead they would retreat immediately" he tried to reassure him but Danzo isn't budging
