Chapter 438: Chapter 438: A Gift for Nawaki
Reiki glanced over the document Sara had handed him. Most of the key issues had already been addressed or were in progress.
[Insufficient arable land and resource scarcity]
Kakuzu, now doubling as a human plowing machine, was working on cultivating fields to address this issue.
[Insufficient strength to deal with external threats]
With the Jue Organization and the Sanada Chamber of Commerce stationed here, Rouran Kingdom was well-protected against most threats. Despite not being a large nation, Rouran's wealth from its advanced metal smelting technology had accumulated significant resources, making it a potential target if left undefended.
[Insufficient housing and land for the growing population of Rouran Kingdom]
This was something Nawaki could handle. Though his mastery of Wood Release was still limited, with enough chakra and training, he would eventually be able to produce the necessary infrastructure.
As for the expansion of territory, Kakuzu and his team were already reclaiming fields and extending borders toward the Land of Rivers. Once the walls were erected, territorial disputes would be settled by strength.
"Brother Nawaki already has these issues under control," Reiki said confidently. "We've hired one of the strongest mercenary ninja organizations, and they're handling the farmland. You can send someone to inspect the progress. As for housing, leave it to Brother Nawaki."
Nawaki blinked in surprise, overwhelmed by how quickly the responsibilities were being laid at his feet. "Wait... what? When did I agree to all this?" he muttered to himself, baffled.
Later...
"Lord Nawaki," Sara said with genuine gratitude, "I didn't realize you'd already arranged so much. On behalf of Rouran Kingdom, thank you."
Her expression softened as she looked at Nawaki. She wasn't blind to his sacrifices. As a direct descendant of the Senju clan, one of Konoha's most prominent families, Nawaki could have stayed in the village and enjoyed its privileges. Instead, he chose to stand by her and help rebuild Rouran Kingdom. It wasn't hard to see the depth of his feelings.
But Sara, burdened with the responsibilities of ruling, had suppressed her emotions for the sake of her people. Now, however, her resolve was wavering.
Nawaki, catching the light in her eyes, stammered, "It's nothing. This is what I should do. I'll train harder and become strong enough to protect you... and Rouran!"
Sara's cheeks flushed at his heartfelt declaration, and she quickly excused herself, retreating to the house in embarrassment.
"Queen Sara..." Nawaki muttered, only to be interrupted by Reiki.
"Alright, Brother Nawaki, now's not the time to get lost in thought about Queen Sara. You have a job to do," Reiki teased, holding up Sara's plan.
Nawaki sighed. "But I can't handle this right now. My Wood Release is too weak. Look." He formed a seal, and a small wooden table emerged from the ground. "This is the best I can do. I'm nowhere near building houses yet."
Reiki smirked. "That's why I prepared these for you." He pulled out a series of potions and handed them to Nawaki.
High-grade Concentration Potion: To help him focus and better control chakra and Wood Release. Advanced Body-strengthening Potion: To improve his physical endurance, ensuring his body could keep up with the demands of Wood Release. Various other supplements: All tailored to enhance Nawaki's growth and potential.
"Reiki... I don't know what to say," Nawaki said, touched by the gesture.
"Don't thank me," Reiki said, waving it off. "I was an orphan with nothing before Lady Tsunade took me in. If it weren't for her, I don't know where I'd be now. You never treated me differently, so this is my way of showing gratitude."
Nawaki hesitated before replying, "Actually... could I ask for more of the basic potions? Sara has started training as a ninja, and I want to prepare something for her too."
Reiki froze for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Fine, fine! Take them. But next time, don't get all emotional over nothing."
Both of them laughed, the tension easing as the weight of earlier concerns lifted. With the major problems addressed, Nawaki could now focus on his training without distractions.
Later that evening...
After dinner, Reiki wandered to a hill overlooking Yucun Village. Sitting on the edge of the cliff, he took in the view.
"It's just as I thought," he murmured. The village, surrounded by sand and gravel, wasn't suited for farming, but its flat terrain made it ideal for construction. With proper planning, Yucun could become a bustling hub in the region.
"I'd love to stay and help develop this village with them..." Reiki sighed. A deep part of him craved the peaceful life of farming and community building. But the world wouldn't allow it—not yet. Though tensions in the ninja world had eased, the underlying conflicts hadn't disappeared, and external threats loomed.
Too many people he cared for were caught up in this turbulent era. Until the storm passed, his dream of a tranquil life would remain out of reach.
"Maybe once it's all over," Reiki said softly, leaning back to gaze at the stars. The cool night breeze lulled him into a peaceful sleep, the first he'd had in years—free of worries, free of practice, just serenity under the open sky.
