Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Danzo Shocked, Kakashi Returns to the Village

Chapter 254: Danzo Shocked, Kakashi Returns to the Village

Konoha Prison

Danzo sat in his cell, carefully knitting a scarf with needle and thread.

The prison typically didn't require inmates to perform such tasks.

However, after Haneda rose to power, he decreed that prisoners should contribute to the village in some way to atone for their sins.

Once a powerful figure as the head of ROOT, Danzo scoffed at such policies.

But… Hiruzen had mentioned wanting a red scarf.

In the end, Danzo begrudgingly submitted to Haneda's authority.

Tap, tap, tap…

Familiar footsteps echoed down the corridor. Danzo immediately recognized them—it was Hiruzen, bringing him dinner as usual.

Setting his knitting needles into the basket of yarn, Danzo dragged his frail body to fetch a stool for Hiruzen.

"Sit down, Hiruzen," Danzo greeted out of habit as he opened the food container.

Since Haneda's visiting hours were strictly limited to 30 minutes, Danzo had no choice but to eat while talking.

"The village must be in shambles by now, isn't it?"

"The Daimyo's office has probably cut all funding to Konoha. They might even encourage Kumogakure to keep fighting against us, or secretly support them."

"With that naturally wicked Uchiha brat leading Konoha, we're doomed to decline!"

"I knew you'd regret it, Hiruzen!"

"If, twelve years ago, you had handed that Uchiha brat over to me for proper training, Konoha wouldn't be in this mess!"

Hiruzen awkwardly lowered his head. He had thought the same thing once.

But then Haneda had gone and forced the Daimyo's court to align with him through sheer power, effectively sidelining the Daimyo himself.

On top of that, Haneda had confiscated the wealth of opposing ministers, returning to Konoha with fifty billion ryo.

Who could have predicted Haneda would so boldly and openly counter the Daimyo?

"Actually…" Hiruzen began.

Danzo raised a hand to interrupt him.

"Don't bother, Hiruzen. I already know."

"That old fox of a Daimyo must have canceled all funding for the year!"

"Even if that brat begged and groveled, he'd end up like the Fourth Kazekage—humiliated and powerless!"

Hiruzen sighed and reluctantly corrected him.

"You're wrong, Danzo."

"Haneda sidelined the Daimyo and brought fifty billion ryo back to the village. I also hear the Daimyo's office is doubling this year's funding."

Danzo froze, thinking he had misheard. But when Hiruzen repeated that the Daimyo's office would double its funding, he slammed his hand on the table and stood up.

"Fifty billion?! Fifty billion?!"

"Are you kidding me, Hiruzen? That's more money than Konoha could earn in five or six years, even without expenses!"

Hiruzen explained, "Haneda confiscated a large number of estates from the ministers and completely sidelined the Daimyo."

Danzo sat back down in stunned silence.

What Haneda had done was something Danzo had dreamed of in his youth but had abandoned under the pressure of international backlash.

Suddenly, Danzo sneered.

"That naturally wicked Uchiha brat hasn't felt the sting of reality yet."

"His actions have offended far more than just the Daimyo and his court of nobles."

"Generals and officials in other parts of the Land of Fire won't stand for a ninja lording over them."

"And other nations' Daimyo will fear their own shinobi leaders might emulate Haneda."

"These people will definitely take action!"

Hiruzen, aware of the consequences of Haneda's bold moves, offered a cautious reminder.

"Danzo, Tsunade has returned to the village and is currently on her way to retrieve Jiraiya."

Danzo snorted.

"Tsunade? She has hemophobia, and her combat strength is barely at half her peak. Jiraiya might be useful, but only on the frontlines."

"And don't start telling me how strong that brat Haneda is. Even if he's the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths, he can't handle four battlefronts alone!"

Hiruzen coughed lightly and said, almost in a whisper,

"The Uchiha now have four pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan."

"Four pairs? Four pairs?!"

Danzo's lone eye widened in disbelief as he stared at Hiruzen.

Hiruzen explained, "Uchiha Haneda, Uchiha Fugaku, Uchiha Shisui, and Uchiha Itachi."

"Itachi awakened his Mangekyō the night you attacked Shisui. I'm not sure when Fugaku awakened his, but he definitely has it."

Realizing Hiruzen had no reason to lie, Danzo slumped back into his chair, silently eating his rice ball.

Forget handling four battlefronts—Konoha, with its current strength, had the potential to unify the world.

It was a thought Danzo had once dismissed as a youthful fantasy.

But under the leadership of that wicked Uchiha brat, it now seemed possible.

Absurd… yet undeniable.

...…

While Tsunade set out to retrieve Jiraiya, Haneda issued orders for Kakashi to return to the village.

Haneda had little regard for Kumogakure. Though he wasn't ignoring them entirely, his focus had been on dealing with the Daimyo's court and perfecting his Dust Release technique.

For now, Haneda had no intention of resolving the conflict with Kumogakure immediately.

He had other priorities, such as writing his book, caring for Naruto, and ensuring the Daimyo was thoroughly dealt with.

The recall order was sent in the morning, and by dusk, Kakashi had used the Flying Thunder God Technique to return to Konoha.

Knowing Haneda was unlikely to be in the office, Kakashi teleported to the Third Training Ground instead.

At this hour, Haneda would either be training there or at the Uchiha clan's private grounds.

In the past, Haneda had also trained at the Hatake family's grounds, but after his father's passing, he had all but stopped going there.

At the Third Training Ground, Kakashi quickly spotted Haneda.

To his surprise, Haneda wasn't working on his Dust Release but was instead… writing a book.

"Hey, you training-obsessed maniac," Kakashi teased. "What's got you writing a book? This isn't like you—you don't even do your paperwork."

"Don't disturb my inspiration, Kakashi!" Haneda snapped without looking up.

Kakashi paused, then chuckled and stood to the side, waiting patiently.

When Haneda finally put down his pen and closed the book, Kakashi noticed the title on the cover: My Struggle.

"So, you're writing an autobiography?" Kakashi asked with a grin. "Does this mean you've made peace with the past?"

Haneda replied, "Made peace? Hardly. Every time I activate my Sharingan, I'm reminded of it."

"Asuma's curriculum draft was ready, as you probably know. But I didn't like it, and I didn't want to make him rewrite it, so I decided to write my own version."

"The title is My Struggle. What do you think? Sounds passionate, doesn't it?"

Kakashi admitted the title had a certain ring to it.

But he also knew that an autobiography wouldn't just reveal Haneda's secrets—it could also touch on those of his close friends.

As one of Haneda's closest allies, Kakashi wasn't thrilled about the idea of having his quirks exposed to the world.

"I just hope you don't make me look bad," Kakashi warned. "And for the love of everything holy, don't write about those things… you know what I mean."

Haneda smirked.

"You mean that time you got curious about Icha Icha Paradise because your dad mentioned it, bought a copy, and secretly read it?"

"Wasn't it you who gave it to me, only for me to burn it afterward?"

Kakashi's cheeks flushed slightly as he recalled the memory, though he quickly regained his composure.

"I'm serious, Haneda. That's just one example. Don't overdo it," he said firmly.

Haneda chuckled and waved him off.

"Fine, fine. I'll keep it to a minimum."
