Upon hearing the name of Yuhi Sekiei, a jonin leaning on a cane approached. "Oh, are you the daughter of Captain Sekiei? I /N_o_v_e_l_i_g_h_t/ was just a genin when I received his guidance, and his teachings still echo in my ears to this day. I never expected to meet his daughter here."
The jonin's words immediately drew agreement from those around him.
"Are you really the daughter of Sekiei-sama? It’s heartwarming to hear news of an old comrade’s child at a time like this."
"Speaking of which, I haven’t thanked you yet. Thanks to your treatment, my wounds have healed significantly."
"Is Lady Yuhi married? If not, I happen to be single too..."
"What are you saying, you old geezer?! You’re dreaming!"
"I’m just mature for my age! I’ve only just turned eighteen!"
The room erupted in laughter and cheerful chatter.
Yuhi Kurenai looked at the crowd gathering around her with smiles and greetings, and a faint smile appeared on her face as well.
Suddenly, Mujin’s voice flashed through her mind.
Perhaps... she wasn’t as powerless as she had imagined.
She turned her gaze toward the chaotic streets outside and the confused villagers.
It wasn’t because of what that vortex-wielding Mujin had said, but rather... she realized that aside from numbing herself with alcohol...
She could actually do something!
At that moment, Asuma Sarutobi appeared, holding a jug of sake. He waved to Kurenai. "Kurenai, come have a drink with me."
Kurenai stared silently at Asuma’s bearded face for a moment before pushing away the jug of sake he offered. With a serious expression, she said, "Before my father passed away, he told me that before being a ninja, I am first and foremost a woman. He hoped I would give him a grandchild to carry on the shinobi legacy. But now, I realize that besides having children, there may be more I can do."
Kurenai’s eyes hardened with resolve. "Asuma, if it’s as friends supporting each other, I’d gladly stay by your side. But right now, I no longer have those worldly thoughts. What you need isn’t me as just a friend."
She glanced at the jug of sake in his hand. "If you’re fine with that… then forget the drinking. I’ll join you for some dango instead."
With that, she turned and left.
Huh?
Huh!?!?!?!?!
---
Night had fallen, and Naruto was still training relentlessly in the practice field. Even though his fists were soaked with blood, he didn’t stop.
BAM!!
Naruto slammed his fist into the wooden post, but the frustration in his heart remained overwhelming. "Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!!"
After their group of genin had been found by Izumo Kamizuki, they were sent to a shelter. No matter how much he shouted and protested, Kamizuki refused to let him participate in the battle.
After all, he was just a loud-mouthed kid who couldn’t even defeat the branch family heir of the Hyuga clan.
This filled Naruto with anger—not toward others, but toward his own weakness.
Especially after discovering he could use the Tailed Beast’s power at night, he rushed into the seal’s subconscious space to confront Kurama. However, Kurama responded with nothing but ridicule, mocking him as an ignorant brat unworthy of its power.
In truth, when Kurama saw Naruto, it initially intended to mention the strange seal that had appeared that morning and vanished by night. But upon seeing Naruto’s accusatory demeanor, it immediately changed its mind.
Why should the great Nine-Tails endure such nonsense or lower itself to explain things to some two-legged creature?
That’s right, it’s ME, the mighty Nine-Tails, who did it! I look down on you, brat! What are you gonna do about it? If you’ve got the guts, come hit me! I, the great Nine-Tails, am waiting RIGHT HERE for you!
Even though he was utterly exhausted, Naruto continued to strike the wooden post over and over again.
But then, a strong hand landed on his shoulder. "Naruto, training like this won’t make you stronger."
"Perverted Hermit!?" Naruto exclaimed in surprise, but his excitement quickly faded as he lowered his head dejectedly. "But the training methods you taught me didn’t make me stronger... I couldn’t even beat Neji."
Jiraiya let out a deep sigh before bursting into hearty laughter. "So you lost once—big deal! I’ve lost so many times I’ve lost count!"
With that, he ruffled Naruto’s hair playfully, messing it up even more. "And since when did you become so arrogant? How many fights have you actually won before? Losing once isn’t the end of the world. Weakness is natural—it’s because we’re weak that we strive to grow stronger!"
Naruto looked up at Jiraiya, sniffing loudly. No one had ever consoled him like this before. Suddenly, he sprang to his feet. "Yeah! You’re right! Losing once doesn’t matter! If I lose today, I’ll just win next time!"
"That’s the spirit!" Jiraiya nodded approvingly. Then, with a grin, he added, "By the way, go pack your things tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll take you out for special training and teach you an ultra-powerful jutsu!"
"Really?! Awesome!" Naruto cheered, leaping into the air. His ability to bounce back was as rapid as ever.
However, unnoticed by both of them, Sasuke watched silently from the shadows as Jiraiya and Naruto walked away...
He wasn’t sure why, but earlier, he had intended to seek out Naruto—perhaps to mock him or simply to see how defeated he looked. Maybe both.
But none of that mattered now. After all, Naruto had Jiraiya now.
Sasuke stared at his trembling hands, his mind heavy with conflicting thoughts.
No one knew—not even Kakashi—that instead of following orders to stay outside the village during the attack, Sasuke had charged straight into Konoha. There, he encountered a gravely injured Sand shinobi.
Was the enemy a chūnin? A jōnin? Sasuke didn’t know—he only knew how close he’d come to death.
It was a stroke of luck—a bolt of lightning striking near the Sand ninja exacerbated their wounds, giving Sasuke the opening he needed to drive Chidori through their chest.
That was his first kill.
The feeling...
was awful.
But what weighed heavier on him was something else entirely.
Naruto had found a way to grow stronger. Gaara—the human weapon known as a jinchūriki—had already proven himself formidable. And Rock Lee...
If Sasuke couldn’t claim supremacy among his peers, how could he possibly hope to challenge the ‘strongest’ of the previous generation?
Especially...
Now that the Uzumaki—the final remnants of their clan—had openly begun their revenge!
Closing his eyes, Sasuke’s mind replayed the apocalyptic scene: the meteor plummeting from the sky, the suffocating helplessness he’d never felt before.
Slowly raising his hand, he whispered, "Chidori."
Electricity crackled around his palm, emitting a high-pitched buzzing sound resembling the cries of a thousand birds. Clenching his fist tightly, the current dissipated.
"Is a technique like this... really enough to help me achieve my vengeance?"
His fingers brushed the cursed seal on the back of his neck. He thought of Jiraiya battling colossal tailed beasts, Mujin and Karin standing amidst the heavens declaring war upon the shinobi world while summoning meteors, and Orochimaru slaying the Third Hokage...
"Naruto has found Jiraiya as his teacher—one of the legendary Sannin. And Orochimaru... he’s supposedly just as powerful..."
Both families destroyed—while the last Uzumaki had already begun exacting revenge, what exactly was he, the last Uchiha, doing?!
Gradually, Sasuke’s gaze hardened.
"Power! No matter what, I must obtain the strength necessary for my revenge!"
In the dance studio, Yamanaka Ino poured sweat onto the floor, her face resolute, her eyes free of doubt.
Everyone! Wait for me!
To save our village on the brink of collapse... I’ve made my decision...
