Chapter 103: The Senju Patriarch
The current battle was no different and went just as Minato and Orochimaru had planned. Throughout its entirety, at the centre of the battlefield, there were yellow and blue flashes seen clashing with each other constantly, as the strongest Raikage in history and the youngest Jonin in history clashed.
Minato had even unveiled the Flying Raijin: Level 2 that he and Katsuro had been working on, which had allowed him to land a particularly big 'Big Ball Rasengan' right in the Raikage's face leaving a nasty bruise. Even with the surprise now used up he was still able to successfully evade every attack and even land a few of his own - particularly the Rasengan, which had quickly become a regular favourite of Minato's when coupled with Flying Raijin.
However, it wasn't enough to win. The Raikage's Lightning Style: Chakra Mode was an incredible defence, even rendering the Rasengan to have the effect of a simple punch. He didn't have the help of Orochimaru this time in providing cover for high power S Rank Jutsus or time to set up traps with seals- it was a one on one in which neither had a win condition on the other. Not only that, but with Minato's constant use of Flying Raijin, and the Raikage's constant maintenance of Lightning Style: Chakra Mode, both of them were losing chakra quickly despite their extensive reserves.
I'm starting to get tired.
Briefly, Minato was able to catch glimpses of the rest of the battlefield. Thankfully, the rest of the plan seemed to be going well. Orochimaru was doing well, on his giant snake, rapidly reducing the numbers difference between the sides. The Inuzuka Clan and the rest of the Konoha Shinobi were also holding their own, and in some cases even excelling. But the number advantage was still undeniable and one Shinobi even if it was Orochimaru could not bridge that gap easily. But Minato was more pleased than one would expect.
This is good, Minato thought. Everything's going to plan. All I need to do is hold on, keep the Raikage occupied, until he shows up - once he does we'll finally have a real shot of winning this battle.
As if by divine intervention, a loud voice shouted from well behind the Kumo backline, authoritative and determined.
"Now!"
The effect of the reinforcements was immediate, and Minato almost laughed in the middle of the battle, nearly earning himself a one-way ticket to the Raikage's Hell Stab. Nevertheless, as if resonating with Minato, the rest of the Konoha forces that had already been fighting immediately surged forward with renewed vigour, their morale fired up by the presence of their comrades.
Speaking of their comrades, the Uzumaki and Senju immediately began to wreak absolute havoc on the Kumo forces from their rear, especially with the likes of the Earth Splitter Tenaki with his squad and such an experienced Elite Jonin like Kaito present. Furthermore, the chemistry between the Uzumaki and Senju was immaculate, and it was clear to enemies and allies alike that the two clans were very much sister clans, and their coordination in war made them formidable opponents for even the most skilled opponents.
The Uzumaki and Senju weren't the only clans making waves on the battlefield, however. The Hyuga clan were also instrumental in Konoha's reinforcements, and their Byakugans that allowed for their Gentle Fist techniques ripped through the Kumo ranks effortlessly.
Finally, there was another that greatly assisted Konoha's efforts to even the numbers - but this was not a clan. No, this was one man only.
"I'm the Green Beast of Konoha, Might Duy!" The man in a green jumpsuit and glowing blue from the 5th Gate of Limit bellowed out loud, his voice rippling across the battlefield, causing more surprise in the Leaf's ranks than Kumo's.
Wait - that Might Duy? The Eternal Genin? That's him!?
The fame of Might Duy had yet to fully spread across the world, but this would certainly correct those misconceptions.
Katsuro smiled at the scene. Everything had gone as planned.
Minutes earlier…
"Listen up, everyone! We've taken our time to work with our forces facing Kumo so we could get behind them. But we can't drag our feet forever. I'm going to go ahead and try to get to the battlefield as quickly as possible. Once I get there, I'll use Flying Raijin to get back here, and teleport some of you there, our elite squad of Shinobi. The goal will be to cause the maximum possible damage we can using the element of surprise to cause confusion and discourse. I cannot teleport everyone, but on our signal everyone else is to attack immediately on foot. We will crush Kumo between our forces."
With that said, Katsuro immediately used Lightning Style: Thunderclap Impulse to rapidly accelerate forwards, and very soon he found the battlefield, but he made no move to intervene or even properly assess the situation. Instead, Katsuro remained disciplined. He stuck a Kunai in the ground on the skirts of the field stealthily, and then teleported back to his army using the Kunai's he left with various Shinobi. First he teleported the handpicked Senju, then the Uzumaki, and finally the Hyuga, and only then did he assess the situation.
Looks like it's kind of a deadlock, but we're slowly but surely closing the gap in numbers, thanks to Orochimaru. As for Minato, Katsuro thought, his eyes trained on the flashes of yellow and blue, looks like he's holding his own. It's just like I thought - the Raikage can't get him because of Flying Raijin, but if Minato messes up once, he's finished. The kid also can't win by himself because the Chakra Mode's too strong - it's like a different, more defensive version of my Thunderclap Impulse, and he just doesn't have the time to make hand signs for any of the S Rank Jutsus I taught him.
Tut tut tut, Minato. You did alright, I guess, Katsuro thought, grinning internally.
Back to present…
Katsuro took a deep breath, and readied himself to fight who could perhaps be the most powerful opponent he had ever faced.
"Lightning Style: Thunderclap Impulse!"
"Wind Style: Wind Chakra Mode!"
"Combination Jutsu: Susanoo no Mikoto!"
He did not bother to wait for his Kunai to be spread and set up for a light step style formation, but they didn't have the time for that - damage needed to be caused now. And becoming the God of Storms tearing through the ranks was more than sufficient.
—
Minato was tiring more quickly than the Third Raikage.
It's because I've been using Flying Raijin and Rasengan for so long and so frequently with other jutsu, and that means even if I have more chakra, maintaining the Lightning Chakra Mode is still more chakra efficient.
Teacher… where are you?
"I'm here, Minato."
A man, shrouded in green mist and lightning, wielding two twin swords, stood before Minato, in between him and the Raikage.
"You did good, kid. But you're tired right now."
"I can still-"
"Nope. Rest now, and come back later when you can keep up," Katsuro said firmly, before turning back and cracking a smile to Minato.
"Besides, I can't let the student overcome the master, can I?"
Suddenly, a blue blur rushed towards Katsuro, and Minato cried out in worry as a mini-explosion occurred right where Katsuro had been.
Just as Minato was about to use Flying Raijin to help, he heard a voice.
"Not even an introduction?" Katsuro's voice spoke with faux indignation. As the dust cleared, Minato saw that even though the Raikage's extended 3 fingers were right next to Katsuro's heart, one of Katsuro's twin blades was held right next to the Raikage's neck. Minato's breath halted, waiting to see what would happen.
Suddenly, the Raikage moved back rapidly, his eyes narrowed at the Senju Patriarch.
"I am A, the Third Raikage."
"Oh we're using titles?" Katsuro asked with fake surprise, before smiling suddenly, his eyes cold.
"Well, some people call me the Stormbreaker, the Wind Emperor or the Bane of the Bijuus. But there is only one title that I truly care about. "
Katsuro flicked up his blades and readied his stance.
"My name is Senju Katsuro, and I am the Senju Patriarch."
