Chapter 96: Chapter : 98
"Oh, what's the matter here?"
Uchiha Fugaku looked at the man in the brown kimono with a faint smile. Yet, his eyes were devoid of warmth.
"One of the parties involved in this conflict is from the Uchiha clan. I believe this situation should not be handled by the Security Department. It would be better for the department to avoid suspicion," the man in the brown kimono said.
This man was Shimura Naoya, the newly appointed head of the Shimura family after Shimura Daisuke's death.
Eager to prove himself and gain recognition within his clan, Naoya saw this incident as an opportunity. Learning that members of his clan had clashed with the Uchiha, he rushed over, determined to turn this situation into a chance to assert his leadership.
"Are you questioning the enforcement of the Security Department?"
The faint smile on Uchiha Fugaku's face vanished, replaced by a steely coldness. His voice boomed across the street.
"I'm not questioning it, per se, but considering that the Uchiha clan is directly involved, wouldn't it be appropriate for the department to recuse itself from handling this matter?" Shimura Naoya said, attempting to steady his voice despite Fugaku's piercing gaze.
Shimura Naoya couldn't help but feel uneasy. The Uchiha Fugaku he had envisioned was supposed to be a mild-mannered and weak-willed leader, but the man before him now exuded strength and authority. This was not the man he expected to face.
"The Security Department is responsible for maintaining order in this village. No one has the right to interfere with its operations," Fugaku said coldly.
"Even if you have doubts, it's not your place to question us. If Shimura Daisuke, the previous head of your clan, were here, I might entertain a discussion. But you?" He let out a dismissive chuckle. "You're hardly in a position to talk."
Naoya's face darkened at the mention of Shimura Daisuke. "With all due respect, Captain Fugaku, Shimura Daisuke is no longer with us. I am the head of the Shimura family now."
Fugaku's lips curled into a slight smirk. "Ah, yes, Shimura Daisuke is indeed dead. Forgive me; I must have forgotten." His tone was deliberately dismissive, a thinly veiled insult to Naoya's lack of presence or notoriety.
"You..." Naoya's knuckles whitened as he clenched his fists in anger.
"Regardless," Fugaku continued, his voice now laced with authority, "you may raise your concerns during the next village council meeting. For now, however, the Security Department is conducting an official investigation. If any of your people resist, it will be treated as obstruction of justice—and the consequences will be severe."
With that, Fugaku gestured to his guards. "Take everyone involved back to the Security Department for questioning."
The members of the Security Department moved swiftly, apprehending the participants from both clans.
"Stop this at once!"
Shimura Naoya's shout echoed as he stepped forward, his expression a mixture of desperation and fury. "I command you all to stand down!" he barked at his clan members.
The Shimura clan members hesitated but eventually formed a defensive line, blocking the guards from taking their people.
"Are you trying to interfere with law enforcement?" Fugaku asked coldly, his Mangekyō Sharingan briefly flickering in his eyes, sending a shiver through Naoya and his supporters.
"Uchiha Fugaku, are you really prepared to declare war on the Shimura clan?" Naoya snarled, but his voice wavered slightly.
"The Uchiha clan seeks no conflict, but we do not fear it either," Fugaku retorted. "If you choose to defy the Security Department, you will bear the consequences."
"Capture them all," Fugaku ordered, his voice calm but firm.
The guards sprang into action.
Shimura Naoya cursed inwardly as the guards approached. As the head of the Shimura family, he couldn't afford to lose face by being taken in like a common criminal. Drawing on his skills as an elite jonin, he dodged the first attacker and countered with a powerful kick, sending the guard flying.
"Captain, allow me to handle this," Uchiha Yakumi said, stepping forward. His Sharingan spun lazily as he approached Naoya, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "You don't need to dirty your hands with someone like him."
"Be my guest," Fugaku said, stepping back to let Yakumi handle it.
Yakumi dashed forward, his speed leaving afterimages as he closed the distance. His fist lashed out like a whip, forcing Naoya to block.
The clash escalated quickly, the two exchanging a flurry of blows at a speed that left the onlookers breathless. Naoya's skills were evident—he was quick and precise, but Yakumi's relentless assault began to overwhelm him.
After a short but intense exchange, Yakumi landed a crushing blow to Naoya's abdomen, sending him sprawling to the ground. Naoya coughed violently, unable to stand.
"How disappointing," Yakumi said, brushing off his uniform. "I expected more from the head of the Shimura family."
Around them, the remaining Shimura clan members fared no better. The Uchiha guards, each a seasoned and elite ninja, quickly subdued their opponents. Within moments, the confrontation was over.
Fugaku surveyed the scene, his gaze falling on the unconscious Naoya. "Take them all back to the Security Department," he ordered.
The guards complied, swiftly securing the Shimura clan members and leading them away. Fugaku remained behind for a moment, his Sharingan glinting ominously as he observed the empty street.
By the time the guards had left, whispers of the clash had already begun to spread through Konoha. The rivalry between the Uchiha and Shimura clans had escalated—and it was clear that this was far from over.
