Naruto: The Medical Shinobi

Chapter 132: Chapter 130: Backup plan

Hiruzen asked, "Is there anything you desire in return for the seal?"

Dan recalled that Ryu had asked him to teach the Shadow Clone Jutsu.

Dan said, "Ryu wanted to accelerate his learning using Shadow Clone Jutsu., but I denied his request. I explained that it's a forbidden jutsu reserved as a special recognition from the village, not to be taught casually. Additionally, I informed him about the high chakra consumption and the mental backlash associated with it."

Hiruzen repeated that Ryu made the right decision; the shadow clone jutsu is not meant to be used in such a way; it's too dangerous, especially for his young mind. No matter how brilliant he is, it's going to break his mind.

Dan responded sceptically, "I doubt that."

Hiruzen, "I don't understand."

Dan "You haven't been with him, so you don't know him like I do. His mind is powerful. Too powerful. If not for the kindness I have seen in him, I would be scared of that power."

Hiruzen asked, "Can he handle the side effects of the Shadow Clone Jutsu on the mind?"

Dan responded, "I believe he can handle it, but there's no need to risk it now. Since he's progressing well without it, let's postpone teaching him the Shadow Clone Jutsu until he reaches the rank of Chunin."

Hiruzen said, "That's probably the best course of action."

Hiruzen rubbed his chin and then said, "I would prepare a note in the records that this jutsu has been passed to Ryu on this day. You can teach him when you feel he is ready for it, as you are the best person with the most insight into the Shadow Clone Jutsu, as you and Mito-sama helped Sensei create this jutsu."

Hiruzen had an exciting idea at that moment. Hiruzen tells him, "I would do the same for the Flying Thunder God Jutsu and leave a record for having passed on this Legacy Jutsu of the Second and Fourth Hokage to Ryu officially."

Hiruzen tells Dan, "No one after Minato was able to learn it; the complexity of the fuinjutsu aspect of it is off the charts and also requires particular talent at both space-time ninjutsu and chakra sensing and control. Fourth's personal guard platoon is able to use it by dividing the tasks into three, but that method is not usable in battle."

Dan was too surprised by this; he thought about it and said, "I have to refuse your request."

Hiruzen was taken aback by this. No one would refuse a legacy jutsu like this for his grandson.

He asked, "I don't understand. Will you tell me the reason for your refusal?"

He added, "Don't tell me that you have already tested Ryu for talent in space-time ninjutsu, and it is lacking."

Dan said, "No, I haven't tested him, but I am sure he is talented in space-time ninjutsu."

Hiruzen asked him, "What makes you so sure about that?"

Dan took a moment and replied, "Ryu gives vibes that he has crossed space-time and the universe and was born here just to save this world."

"You did not know how Lord Second created those jutsus, as the village was not formed then, but I was there when it happened. I remember how Lord Tobirama was able to create the [Flying Thunder God] and that cursed jutsu from scratch through their combined research. You do realise that i have rough notes and research papers on space-time Fuinjutsu and other notes of Mito-Sama and Lord Tobirama. I was but a small part of all those projects."

Hiruzen acknowledged, "Yes, you possess the research papers, making you a crucial secret asset for the village. Your knowledge has kept you on the watch list since the time of Tobirama Sensei."

He added, "However, I fail to comprehend why you persist in refusing the final product. The notes and research papers pale in comparison to the final product. When Minato Namikaze inherited the Second's legacy, he developed it even further, and it became his signature jutsu. I am hoping Ryu will inherit their legacy."

He then became serious and said, "And that cursed jutsu—I need someone to have a backup plan for that jutsu after I die, and I cannot trust anyone. I fear the worst with Danzo and the same with Orochimaru. Jiraiya and Tsunade I can trust, but they refused that jutsu."

"Tsunade, in fear that she will try to resurrect her loved ones and Jiraiya because the conditions of learning and practicing do not sit well with him. I want you to act as my backup and inherit those jutsus."

Dan said, "Hiruzen I thank you for putting your trust in me. I haven't told anyone, but I am already your backup. After the 1st Ninja War, Lord Tobirama taught me how to deal with it. He made sure that I knew how to force end that jutsu in the event it fell into the hands of enemies and is used against us. He told me that he should not have created that jutsu and regretted not listening to Lord Hashirama and Mito-sama."

"Then why are you refusing to let Ryu inherit Flying Thunder God Jutsu? It's not like other jutsu." Hiruzen asked.

Dan sighed and said, "It's not like I don't want Ryu to not inherit those jutsu."

Hiruzen's eyes narrowed when he heard that. He was totally confused by Dan's unexpected statement about Ryu's abilities.

Dan continued, "Ryu's perspective is unlike anyone before him. I am confident that when Ryu explores those research papers, he will innovate and create something entirely new, surpassing the original creation of the Second Hokage, exceeding our expectations."

"If we were to give Ryu the final product, there would be less scope for ingenuity. You have seen that seal, right? If not for the insight scroll, I would not even know the mechanism of that seal," he said.

Hiruzen was still a bit sceptical that Ryu would surpass the other experts known for their fuinjutsu prowess and create an entire new version of Flying Thunder God Jutsu, but he agreed to Dan's request.

"Ok, fine, let's do it your way then. Since those jutsus were created before the creation of this village and you were part of the team that created those jutsus, I will record you and Ryu as the inheritors of those jutsus. You can hold on to those jutsus and proceed with what you had planned for Ryu."

Hiruzen then asks, "Those things will be off the record. but I must give him something for now."

Dan thought hard and asked, "A few lighting jutsus that would suit Ryu's style for close combat will do for now.".

Hiruzen said, "I would consult Kakashi Hatake and ask him to give pointers to Ryu."

Dan said, "I thanked you, Hiruzen," and Hiruzen took his leave.

After some time, Hiruzen left. Ryu entered home, and Dan welcomed him and said, "Congratulations. Both the seals have been registered."

Ryu looked at the certificates and thought about it, "Well, other grandmasters cannot commercially use it, but they can copy it for themselves. and so can my future enemies. I can name two even now."

Dan noticed Ryu's concern and asked, "What's troubling you?"

Ryu told him his worries, and Dan replied, "Your worries are justified, but what can we do but not trust our village? If we sell the seal in the market, it's bound to be used by others. It's only the secret jutsu act and fuinjutsu council that others, even if they copy our seal, they cannot sell our seal in the open, but in the black market no one has any control."

Ryu smiled and said, "I can think of one thing we can do. and even the black market will not be able to do anything."

Dan, visibly intrigued, smiled and enquired, "What ingenious plan do you have in mind?"

"I can think of many ways. Do you know about encoding? I learnt that all of the ninja's secret messages are coded."

I have guessed what you are trying to say, but coding fuinjutsu will not work, as once coded, the fuinjutsu seal will lose its meaning. Many have tried that approach and failed.

"You are right. But what if the seal has a part that helps give back meaning to the parts that have been coded?

Dan thought about it and said, "That could work, but then the seal will become very complex."

"We can make it, but then we have to code every seal and place that decoder seal alongside it to make it work."

"I have a simpler solution," Ryu said with a smile, making Dan very intrigued.

He elaborated, suggesting a dual-purpose seal that both encodes and decodes simultaneously using a pre-set password. This seal would be placed first, followed by the intended seal to be protected.

Dan thought about it for a few minutes and then said, "I would have doubted you if I had not decided to never doubt you. Ever. Achieving this would ensure the protection of all our seals, eliminating concerns about the theft of our scrolls.

"I am going to start working on it then." Ryu replied. "I appreciate your trust in me," said Ryu, smiling gratefully.

He went to his room and started working on this new seal that will help him password protect his other seal.
