Last time on NTLHOS:

"The Uchiha will no longer support the alliance with the Tower, nor will we aid Naruto Uzumaki in any shape or form in the coming council meeting. We are loyal shinobi of the Leaf and will not let it be divided," Fugaku finished, his declaration final. The decision hung over the room, choking out any immediate response. Shock and disbelief rippled through the assembled Uchiha, some unable to mask their surprise. Shisui remained silent, but his usual easygoing demeanor was gone, replaced by a sense of quiet anger. Itachi, sitting next to his father, gave a subtle nod of agreement, his expression unreadable but the gesture unmistakable—Itachi would stand by his father's decision.

Now:

Meanwhile, deep within the Tower, the air was thick with tension. The gathering hall, usually brimming with serious conversation and murmured negotiations, now held an eerie quiet, a stillness that hinted at the gravity of the moment. Lords and ladies of prominent clans, heads of merchant guilds, and influential business leaders had convened, each with their own fears, ambitions, and vested interests hanging in the balance.

Today was not like any other day. The village had nearly been thrust into chaos—a civil war averted by the slimmest of margins. And at the center of it all was Naruto Uzumaki. As each attendee glanced nervously at the doors, they knew that the fate of their alliances, their power, and perhaps even their lives would hinge on what transpired next.

When Naruto finally entered the room, the murmurs ceased almost immediately, as though the very breath of the hall had been stolen. Dressed in an ornate robe of deep crimson, embroidered with the golden Uzumaki swirl that glistened in the dim light, Naruto was a far cry from the modest figure they were used to seeing.Today, he was the embodiment of his heritage—the heir to the Uzumaki, a prince standing at the crossroads of his life. Humility had no place here.

Naruto's gaze swept across the room with precision, his eyes locking onto each face. He could see the wide spectrum of emotions reflected in their expressions—fear, loyalty, suspicion, even greed. These were the people who had stood by the Tower through turbulent times, and now, there were also people who were here for power.

The silence stretched as Naruto took his seat at the head of the grand table, allowing the tension to build deliberately. The lesson of silence, one that Lady Mito had often invoked in stories Naruto had read, was now a weapon in his arsenal. Sometimes, the unspoken carried more weight than words ever could.

It was Lord Hatake, the father of Sozin, who broke the silence first. His voice, gruff and filled with barely-contained anger, cut through the room.

"What are we to do today?"he began, though it was more of a declaration than a question. "The Elders have trampled on every boundary of civility, Lord Uzumaki. This cannot go unchallenged."

Lord Hatake's words hung in the room like a gathering storm. His voice, steady but laced with an old pain, spoke not just of anger but of scars—wounds inflicted by Konoha's high council.Hatake was not a man who feared betrayal; he had lived through it, endured it, and survived it.The Elders, with their quiet manipulations and ruthless decisions, had claimed many victims over the years, and his family had been among the most prominent.

His brother, Sakumo—the White Fang—had been their greatest casualty. A man who had given everything for the village, only to be condemned by the very people he'd bled for.Sakumo was the last shinobi to be tried by this very council, and now, all these years later, the next to stand before them was Naruto Uzumaki. It felt like a cruel déjà vu. His brother, after completing his mission, had been paraded through the village just like Naruto had been today. Rumors had spread, details of the mission were leaked to the public, and the village had condemned Sakumo before he had even set foot in the trial. Their allies had abandoned them, and no one spoke for the White Fang. His brother had refused to defend himself, and Lord Hatake had watched helplessly as the high council's judgment crushed him, tearing his legacy apart and leaving their family in ruin.

Now, as he looked at Naruto, those memories rushed back with painful clarity. He couldn't bear to see history repeat itself. Not again.

Naruto met Lord Hatake's gaze and understood the unspoken plea. This wasn't just about strategy or political maneuvering—it was about survival. The Hatake clan had been broken by the same forces that now threatened Naruto, and once again, a young man stood on the precipice of a similar fate. The air between them held a shared understanding—this was not just a battle for Naruto's future, but a reckoning for all those who had been betrayed by the village they had once sworn to protect.

Naruto let the silence linger a few seconds more, feeling the tension tighten. His eyes shifted to Lord Kamado, his most loyal supporter and a man who had seen the Tower through its darkest days.

Kamado's voice followed swiftly, sharp with righteous indignation. "Lord Hatake is right. The elders have crossed lines that can't be undone. They treated you, Lord Uzumaki, like a common criminal. What did they hope to achieve?"He paused, his voice shaking not with fear but with barely-suppressed anger."Do they think we will bow down like cowards?"

Lady Kriya Yamanaka, always one to analyze rather than react, folded her arms and leaned back in her chair, her calculating eyes narrowing. "This isn't Sukino's work," she said flatly, her voice dripping with cold precision."This level of bluntness and ineptitude... reeks of Hiruzen and his old council dogs—Danzo, Koharu, and Homura."The mad-woman Sukino's methods, though twisted, are far more complex. This is their doing, mark my words."

The room hummed with agreement, nods exchanged between the lords and ladies. Yet, for all the understanding, the undercurrent of fear remained. The elders had revealed their hand in a very public way, and even if this particular gambit had failed, it wouldn't be their last.

Lord Kurama, the head of one of Konoha's most prestigious clans, sat further down the table. His voice, though weary, resonated with the authority of someone who had weathered many storms."Mad or not, Sukino Nara is dangerous."He took a deep breath before continuing."We were on the brink of civil war today, Lord Uzumaki. If not for the evidence you brought back, we would have been crushed by Lord Third. They would have made sure of it."

As his words echoed in the room, the chill that had been lingering intensified. The thought of the Third Hokage—of Hiruzen Sarutobi—executing a plan to crush his opponents, even at the cost of the village's stability, sent ripples of fear through the gathered elites.

Naruto's hands, resting under the table, balled into fists. His mind raced, not just with strategies, but with the weight of what lay ahead. These people, sitting before him, weren't merely allies—they were his lifeline. But he needed to balance their trust with his own survival. One wrong move, one misstep, and the Tower would fall, taking him with it.

It was Torifu Akimichi who spoke next, his deep voice steady but carrying a weight of curiosity."Before we begin discussing our next steps, we need to address the lion in the room—or rather, its absence."He paused, his gaze sweeping the table, catching the eyes of those gathered."Where are the Uchiha? Why isn't Lord Fugaku here? And why hasn't he sent Lord Mahiro or someone else in his place, at least? The Uchiha were central to today's events, yet they're conspicuously absent."

The question hung in the air, pulling the attention of everyone in the room. Indeed, the absence of the Uchiha was a glaring omission—one that hadn't gone unnoticed.

Naruto raised his hand, silencing the growing murmurs before they could spiral into full-blown panic. His eyes, sharp as kunai, swept the room before he spoke.

"I have received a letter from Lord Fugaku," he said, his voice steady but weighted with the gravity of the situation. "He will not be attending this meeting. However," Naruto paused for effect,"he has assured me of his full support in the upcoming council session."

The room was filled with skeptical glances, and Naruto could feel the distrust rising like smoke. "Lord Fugaku has explained that, due to the involvement of several Uchiha in today's incident, the clan compound is currently surrounded by ANBU Black Ops," Naruto said."Lord Fugaku believes it is too dangerous to leave the Uchiha clan unguarded at such a critical time. He will join us directly at the council meeting."

The room was still heavy with skepticism. Lord Kamado shifted uneasily in his seat, his brows furrowed. There was no denying the tension in the air, the unspoken fears that swirled among the gathered lords and ladies. One of the merchants, an old ally of the Tower who had stood by the Uzumaki despite the elders' pressure, cleared his throat and spoke with a mix of apprehension and doubt.

"This doesn't sound right, Lord Uzumaki. Why couldn't Lord Fugaku send someone—anyone—to represent the Uchiha here today? There's too much at stake for the Uchiha to be absent. If not him, where is Lord Mahiro?"

Naruto remained calm, his expression betraying nothing. He couldn't afford to show weakness—not now. His voice was steady, reassuring, as he met the merchant's questioning gaze. "The Uchiha have stood by us through thick and thin. They will not abandon us now. What Lord Fugaku says is true—I personally sensed the ANBU encircling the Uchiha compound. It would be too risky for him to leave the compound unguarded, especially in light of today's events."

The merchant leaned back, nodding reluctantly, but the doubt in his eyes lingered. Others around the table exchanged glances, some clearly still uneasy about the situation. Naruto knew this was only the beginning. The coming council meeting would be the true test of loyalty—and not just for the Uchiha. For all of them.

As the conversation resumed, strategies and plans were tossed around the table like knives—sharp and urgent.Questions flew from one side to the other, some focused on immediate tactics, others on thedeep coffers they'd need to dip into to secure votes, to grease the wheels of political maneuvering. This wasn't just about the battlefield anymore; it was about influence, about buying loyalty in a village where every favor had a price.

Naruto's mind churned as they discussed potential outcomes, worst-case scenarios, and ways to mitigate the inevitable fallout. They spoke in hushed tones about how much they would need to bribe certain council members, which influential merchants and clans they needed to sway, and how to handle those who were wavering in their support.

And then, as always, the elephant in the room reared its head: theIno-Shika-Cho alliance. The conversation turned to hushed whispers, the tension in the room sharpening once more. Would the Yamanaka and Akimichi clans stand with the Tower when the moment of reckoning came? Or would they, too, bow under the weight of the elders' pressure, aligning themselves with the powers that had held Konoha in their iron grip for decades?

Naruto could feel the weight of those questions as they settled around the room, the growing unease that flickered in the eyes of those who had pledged their loyalty. The future of their alliance was hanging by a thread, and they all knew it. But there was nothing Naruto could say to ease their concerns, not yet.

The meeting had dragged on for two hours straight, filled with endless reassurances and promises. By the time Naruto left the chamber, he could feel the pain of those two hours sitting heavily on his shoulders. The room had been thick with tension, a web of alliances, doubts, and fragile loyalty that could break with the smallest misstep. He had spent most of it assuring people, placating their fears, and reinforcing his position, but the uncertainty in the air clung to him like a second skin.

The burden of leadership weighed on him as he strode down the corridor, his mind already calculating the next move. There was no room for error, no time for hesitation.Every step forward felt like a step on a razor's edge.

As he stepped out into the corridor, he was immediately greeted byAnko and Sozin, both of them looking tense but determined. They fell into step beside him, their voices quick and sharp, firing off questions like kunai.

"Naruto, what's the plan now? What do we do if the council sides with the Elders?" Anko pressed, her tone impatient but underlined with genuine worry.

"Yeah, and how do we counter whatever's coming our way?" Sozin added, his sharp gaze locked on Naruto.

Naruto held up a hand, silencing them both with a firm but gentle gesture."I can't talk much right now. There is no 'we' here, only me. You followed my orders; that's the end of it. I'll be the one to take the blame, so no 'we' in any answer you give,"he said, his voice low but steady, the strain of the day creeping in. "You're both going to be questioned by the council. If I tell you anything now, it'll come up, and you'll be forced to lie. That Mad Nara let you out of the ANBU barriers for a reason. If they're letting you talk to me now, they're fishing for information. This isn't a courtesy—it's a trap."

His eyes flicked between them, serious and unwavering."You need to stay clear-headed. They'll use anything you or I say against us in that chamber."

Anko's eyes narrowed, and she crossed her arms, her frustration barely held in check. "So, what? We just stand there and let them corner you?"

Naruto shook his head. "No, but you need to be smart about this. They'll ask leading questions, trying to trip you up.Just stick to the truth as much as you can. Don't give them more than what they already know." His voice softened slightly."Trust me, there's more at play here."

Naruto asked,"Where is Carlos? Is he being held somewhere?"

Sozin's brow furrowed slightly, a flicker of concern crossing his face."Carlos went straight to the Uchiha compound. Lord Fugaku summoned him as soon as we were let out of ANBU debriefing. He's safe, I guess."His voice hardened again.

Naruto nodded and said,"Go to your rooms and report to the ANBU checkpoints early—at least an hour early. They'll be watching your every move. Don't give them any reason to suspect you."

After reassuring them both, Naruto turned deeper into the Tower, his steps purposeful and quick.Kammado, ever faithful, joined him, his large frame moving silently beside the young prince. There was still one more matter to attend to—Kanna and Karin. His new family members. The thought sent a small wave of warmth through Naruto's otherwise cold, calculated thoughts.

Naruto's footsteps echoed lightly through the dimly lit corridors of the Tower as he and Kammado made their way deeper into the heart of the stronghold. Despite the heavy burden that hung over him, the thought of seeing Kanna and Karin brought a small sense of comfort. For so long, Naruto had carried the weight of his Uzumaki heritage alone, but now, for the first time in years, he had family—people who shared his blood and his legacy.

As they reached the private chambers, Naruto could already sense the tension from within.Kanna Uzumaki, though grateful for her and her daughter's rescue, was struggling to adjust to the life she had found herself thrust into. It must have been overwhelming—moving from the chaos and cruelty of Kusa to the intricate and dangerous world of Konoha's politics. She was being treated like royalty within the Tower, but it was clear that this new world was foreign and uncomfortable to her.

Naruto knocked gently on the door before pushing it open. The room was lavish, a far cry from the simple and harsh life Kanna had likely known.Karin, still a teenager with all the innocence and energy that came with youth, was the first to greet him.

Karin's face lit up the moment she saw him, her wide grin breaking the tension in the room. Without a second thought, she rushed over and wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, the warmth of her affection catching Naruto off guard. After a moment, she pulled back just enough to give him a playful punch on the cheek.

"Naruto! Where have you been?"she laughed, her voice light and carefree."Your house is amazing. I love it here!"

Naruto couldn't help but smile, the weight of his responsibilities momentarily forgotten in the face of Karin's youthful energy. For a brief second, everything felt normal—like family. But that moment was short-lived.

Naruto glanced over toKammado, who was standing nearby with a strained expression. His lips were pressed into a thin line, his body language stiff. It was clear that Kammado, loyal and formal as ever, disapproved of Karin's casual behavior, especially in front of the prince.

Before Naruto could say anything, it wasKannawho acted. Stepping forward, she reached for Karin, pulling her back with a firm yet controlled motion. Her voice was sharp, a mix of maternal authority and Uzumaki pride.

"Don't you dare disrespect the prince like that,"she scolded, her tone leaving no room for argument."You will address him as either 'Prince' or 'Naruto-sama.' Is that understood?"

Karin's smile faltered slightly, her bright eyes now filled with a mix of confusion and guilt.Naruto could see the weight of Kanna's words pressing down on her daughter, the formality of their situation suddenly sinking in.

Naruto raised his hands in a placating gesture, his voice gentle yet firm."Now, now, Kanna, there's no need for such formality among family."

Kanna turned her gaze to Naruto, her expression softening as she gave him a kind smile, filled with gratitude."The prince is too kind,"she said quietly, though there was a dangerous edge still lingering in her eyes.

When she turned back to Karin, however, that smile vanished, replaced by the infamous Uzumaki temper that Naruto had heard stories of.Kanna's voice dropped to a low, dangerous murmur."I will be damned if my daughter doesn't act like a proper Uzumaki and show the respect her Lord deserves."

Naruto exchanged a quick glance withKammado, who stood silently in the corner, nodding his head solemnly in agreement. There was no use trying to argue when Kanna had that look in her eyes.It was the look of a woman who had endured more than most and wasn't about to tolerate disrespect from anyone—even her own child.

Karin, sensing the gravity of the situation, quickly straightened up.Her usual carefree demeanor replaced with a more formal air.She turned to Naruto and gave a slight bow."My apologies, Naruto-sama,"she said, her voice quieter, more measured now.

Naruto smiled at her, the warmth and affection still present in his gaze."There's no need for apologies, Karin. We're family,"he said softly, though his eyes flicked briefly to Kanna, offering her a silent nod of understanding.

Naruto had only stayed a few more minutes, exchanging words with Kanna and Karin, before he was called away again. There was no time to waste—every second counted in the game of survival he was now playing.

After leaving their chambers, Naruto's mind returned to the political landscape he was about to navigate. WithKammadostill at his side, they moved quickly to their next destination—a small meeting room where two very important figures awaited him.

Lady Kriya YamanakaandLord Torifu Akimichi, both aged veterans of the legendarySquad Tobirama, sat in silence, waiting for Naruto's arrival. There was no time for small talk, no pleasantries exchanged. The air was thick with urgency and quiet tension. The question on both their minds was the same—would their respective clans stand with Naruto, or would they be swayed by Shikaku and the looming influence of the elders?

Naruto took his seat at the modest table, feeling the weight of their gazes on him.It was Torifu who broke the silence first, his deep, rumbling voice carrying the weight of years of experience and wisdom.

"Let's be honest, Naruto,"Torifu began, his eyes sharp but tired."Despite what we said in that meeting earlier, despite the reassurances we gave to keep morale up, I'm not entirely sure how this will play out."

Naruto remained silent, letting the words settle. There was no point in sugarcoating the situation, no room for false hope.

Torifu sighed heavily, his broad shoulders slumping slightly under the invisible weight of his clan's legacy."The bond of the Ino-Shika-Cho has been eroding for a few years now, partly because of our active efforts. We've done our best to hold this alliance together, to keep things in check, but it's growing weaker by the day. We've nearly stopped the traditional three-clan gatherings, and open alliances have been fading. We've been successful in keeping some of the younger generation in line, but..."* His voice trailed off, the uncertainty clear in his tone."We don't know how long that will last."

Naruto nodded, grim but unsurprised. He had seen the cracks forming over the years, but hearing Torifu confirm it only solidified the gravity of the situation. The Ino-Shika-Cho alliance, once one of the strongest pillars in Konoha's political landscape, was nowheld together by fragile threads.

Torifu leaned forward slightly, his hands resting on the table."My son listens to me, to an extent. But I can't say for certain how long he'll stand firm. Shikaku... he's a powerful influence, and the younger generation, well..."He sighed again, rubbing his temple."Their bond is nothing to scoff at. We're holding it together by a thread, Naruto. A thread."

Naruto's gaze shifted toLady Kriya Yamanaka, who had been sitting silently up until now, watching, calculating. Her sharp eyes locked onto Naruto's, and he could feel the weight of her will pressing down on him. She was a woman of few words, but when she spoke, those words carried the weight of an entire clan's legacy.

"Inoichi is only part of this alliance because I force him to be,"she said, her voice cold and cutting through the room like a blade."He's my nephew, but he lacks the spine to stand up to the pressure on his own.He doesn't want me challenging him for the clan head position, especially not after his father took the role from me by technicality."

Her eyes narrowed, and Naruto could see the dangerous glint that flickered in her gaze."If I challenge him for a Mind Duel, as is custom in our clan, Inoichi would crumble like a pile of sand in a sandcastle."She paused, letting the threat hang in the air."I'm the only Yamanaka to reach S-rank since Konoha's founding. No one else comes close. The challenge wouldn't just be a duel—it would be a slaughter."

Torifu's laugh was brief, humorless."Don't forget, Naruto, Team Tobirama didn't just have one deranged woman,"he said, his deep voice carrying a strange mix of warmth and cold truth. He shot a glance at Lady Kriya, a mischievous glint in his eyes despite the gravity of their conversation."We had two."

Kriya didn't flinch, her sharp gaze narrowing as she turned toward Torifu."Watch it, Torifu,"she replied, her voice smooth but edged with a quiet menace."I've bested you before, and I'll do it again."Her lips twitched, a hint of a smirk barely visible, but it quickly faded as the conversation returned to its serious tone.

Naruto watched the exchange, allowing himself a brief moment of amusement, but the weight of the situation pressed down on him, forcing his thoughts back to the matter at hand.

Kriya's smirk vanished completely as she turned her attention back to Naruto."The challenge isn't as simple as it sounds,"she continued, her voice dropping into a more serious tone."I'd need the Hokage's or the Daimyo's permission to invoke the duel, thanks to the clan charters. Hiruzen would never give me permission—not even at his worst—but the Daimyo?"She let the question linger, her gaze intense as she studied Naruto's face."That's a different story."

Her words carried a weight, a hidden layer of meaning that Naruto understood immediately. The Daimyo, though distant from Konoha's day-to-day affairs, still wielded significant influence, particularly when it came to matters of tradition and clan politics. If Kriya managed to sway the Daimyo, she could effectively strip Inoichi of his power and claim the head of the Yamanaka clan for herself.

"Inoichi lives in fear of that very possibility,"Kriya continued, her tone cold and pragmatic."He knows I could challenge him at any time, and he's terrified that I'll find a way to gain the Daimyo's favor. That's the only thing keeping him loyal—for now. But the moment he senses I no longer have that leverage?"She shrugged, the motion casual but her meaning clear."He'll bend to Shikaku's will."

Naruto's jaw tightened, the weight of her words sinking in. Kriya's control over her nephew was tenuous at best, and the alliance between their clans was hanging by a thread. If Inoichi shifted his loyalty to Shikaku, it would spell disaster for Naruto's efforts to hold the Tower's alliances together.

"How long can you keep him in line?"Naruto asked, his voice low, but the urgency in his question was unmistakable.

Kriya leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "As long as it takes, Naruto. But don't mistake this for loyalty. Inoichi won't stand with you because he believes in this alliance. He'll stand with you because he fears the alternative. And for today's meeting, I'm not sure, if Hiruzen can sure inoichi his is willingness and ability to protect him or fight his case with the Daimyo if the situation arises. That's a different story."

The room fell into a heavy silence, the gravity of their discussion settling over them like a cold fog.

Torifu shifted in his seat, his eyes fixed on Naruto. "The question now is, what happens if today's council meeting doesn't go in your favor? What's the next move?"

They spent the next few hours discussing strategies, possibilities, contingencies—every possible outcome of the council meeting and what they would do depending on which way the wind blew. And through it all, Naruto felt the cold, calculating certainty that came from knowing that war—whether political or on the battlefield—was coming.
