Chapter 225: Chapter 225: Is This Training Madness?
Shinki wasn't sure if the Third Hokage was feeling stressed, but he himself was quite relaxed.
After all, the ANBU didn't have too much to handle. With proper delegation, there was even less to do.
After leaving the frontline camp, Shinki could finally let himself unwind.
Returning home, he spotted some familiar faces. Smiling, he greeted them, "Hyuga Mehu and Mikoto are here too?"
"Shinki!!!"
Kushina abandoned the two little sisters, cheered in excitement, ran towards Shinki, and threw herself into his arms in an instant.
"Slow down."
Shinki quickly caught her and hugged her tightly. It had been some time since they last saw each other. The girl had grown taller—and heavier.
But Shinki wisely kept that thought to himself, knowing Kushina would not take kindly to any mention of her weight.
"Senior," Hyuga Mehu and Uchiha Mikoto, who were sitting on the sofa, stood up and greeted him.
"Haha, no need to be so formal."
After setting Kushina down, Shinki noticed movement in the kitchen. There, Pakura was cooking. Curiously, he walked over and asked, "Pakura, you can cook?"
"..."
Pakura, busy chopping vegetables, nearly sliced her finger. She turned to glare at Shinki, her frustration palpable. Though she wanted to throw the knife at his face, she held back and muttered through gritted teeth, "Is it so strange for a girl to know how to cook?"
"Ahaha..." Shinki let out an awkward laugh.
Nearby, Kushina, her face red, ran over and pinched Shinki. She suspected he was making fun of her.
In truth, both she and Tsunade weren't great cooks. Kushina's dishes were often barely edible, while Tsunade's ventures into the kitchen were outright catastrophic.
"Minato, come here for a moment," Shinki called, avoiding further banter with Pakura. He turned and went upstairs.
Quickly finishing his task, the yellow-haired Minato Namikaze followed after him.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Kushina's cooking incompetence forced Uchiha Mikoto to step in and help. Hyuga Mehu, on the other hand, sat awkwardly. As a member of the Hyuga main family, she had grown up with a life of luxury and never needed to learn such skills.
Upstairs, Shinki gestured for Minato to close the door and sit down. After the door was shut, Shinki began to speak.
"I discussed psychic beasts with Shukako. He suggested a great idea—when we travel to the Iron Country for the Five Kage Summit, we can take a detour to the coastline and release your psychic beast into the sea."
"Snakes can live in the water, and no one inhabits the old Whirlpool Kingdom. The snakes can settle on the islands there, with plenty of prey in the surrounding seas."
"Really?" Minato's face lit up with joy. "That's fantastic!"
Had it not been for fear of reprimand, he might have jumped up in celebration. His psychic beast's ravenous appetite had been a constant source of stress. Supporting such a creature had felt like a bottomless pit.
But now, the problem had a perfect solution.
The sea offered abundant prey, and the psychic beast could fend for itself. It wouldn't need Minato to provide food any longer.
"It's true," Shinki confirmed. "Alright, calm down. Go tell Kushina that I've already eaten with Tsunade and Shukako. After washing up, I'm heading straight to bed. The rest of you handle dinner yourselves."
"Got it, teacher."
Minato couldn't hide his grin, his excitement evident as he hurried out of the study. The burdens of the past few days seemed to melt away, leaving him energized.
Downstairs, Minato delivered Shinki's message to Kushina.
"The teacher said he already ate with Tsunade and Shukako. We're on our own for dinner."
Kushina frowned, feeling left out. "The first day he's back, and he has a feast without inviting me? Unbelievable."
"Nawaki should be back for dinner. He's been through some intense training lately, though. Poor guy's probably exhausted," Minato added.
Tsunade had been pushing Nawaki hard. Determined to strengthen him, she subjected her younger brother to rigorous training, leaving him with little reprieve.
Nawaki's life had turned into a grueling routine of relentless physical drills. Every day seemed to bring a fresh layer of exhaustion.
Hearing about Nawaki's intense training, Minato's eyes sparkled with interest. His body seemed to buzz with anticipation, as though craving the same challenge.
Kushina noticed and instinctively took a step back. "You're crazy. Absolutely crazy."
She wasn't wrong. The word "special training" had sparked something in Minato.
Sure enough, during dinner, Nawaki returned home utterly drained. His hands trembled as he lifted his chopsticks, and though he managed to eat, it was clear he was running on fumes. Afterward, he chatted briefly with Minato before heading back out for more training.
Tsunade would inspect his progress daily, and any failure to meet her standards would result in punishment. Nawaki didn't dare slack off.
Sitting upstairs, Shinki observed Nawaki's hurried comings and goings and chuckled. "Minato used to envy Nawaki's training. I bet he won't feel the same after hearing this."
Shinki couldn't help but reflect on the irony. Nawaki, once so eager to train like Minato, was now living proof of the harsh reality of Tsunade's methods.
In the end, discipline was the key to progress—and a little suffering wasn't always a bad thing.
After two days of rest in the village, it was time to set off for their journey.
