Chapter 215: Chapter 215: How About We Switch?
"What kind of envoys are we welcoming? Is it important that the envoys have our wounded? Take me there and start the operation immediately."
Welcome the envoys?
Are you kidding? I can leave this kind of thing to Orochimaru. Shinki doesn't want to deal with the envoys from the daimyo's government, especially after the Hatake Sakumo incident broke out. He doesn't want to get involved in anything related to them.
So Shinki decided to stay in the emergency room of the medical department for the entire day.
Not to mention the envoys from the daimyo's government, even if they came in person, he didn't have time to deal with them.
After making arrangements, Shinki sent someone directly to notify Orochimaru. Then he put on a white coat and walked into the emergency room. Pakura, serving as his temporary secretary, stood speechlessly at the door.
She couldn't understand why Shinki wanted to avoid meeting the envoy group.
This is an envoy from the daimyo's government!
Pakura felt there was something wrong with Shinki's attitude.
After Shinki's message was delivered to Orochimaru, he immediately understood Shinki's intentions.
He didn't want to meet the envoy group or risk becoming the next Hatake Sakumo. It was better to avoid them entirely and spare everyone the embarrassment.
Since Shinki was determined to avoid the envoy group, Orochimaru had no choice but to personally greet them and escort them to the headquarters for reception.
When the envoys asked about Shinki's absence, Orochimaru calmly explained:
"Due to a local outbreak of war and the intensity of fighting, many wounded have been sent back from the front lines. Shinki, the most skilled medic in the camp, is busy treating the injured in the emergency room."
It was a perfect excuse.
Even if the envoys were displeased, they couldn't argue. No one would expect someone to abandon the wounded just to meet them.
Being absent on purpose and being unable to come because of pressing duties are two entirely different things.
Fortunately, the envoys didn't dare to stir up trouble in the camp. After a formal exchange with Orochimaru and expressing the daimyo's goodwill, they left the rewards from the daimyo and quickly departed.
The camp's proximity to the Wind Country's border made it a war zone where conflict could break out at any moment. Staying there was dangerous, and as privileged members of the daimyo's envoy group, they had no desire to risk their lives.
If not for the daimyo's orders, they wouldn't have ventured so far to the frontline camp in the first place.
After sending off the envoys, Orochimaru brought the rewards to the medical department. By then, Shinki had already returned to his resting quarters.
When Orochimaru entered, he found Shinki lounging on a chair, legs crossed, reading a book. A faint smile appeared on Orochimaru's lips.
"I thought you'd stay in the emergency room longer."
"There aren't many wounded needing immediate treatment, and the other medical ninjas are more than capable. Why should I stay in the emergency room the whole day?" Shinki responded nonchalantly, shooting Orochimaru a knowing glance.
Since the war had shifted to localized skirmishes, the number of injured had decreased significantly. Localized conflicts didn't require as many ninjas, and the frequency of battles had dropped sharply. Naturally, fewer wounded were being sent back.
Orochimaru picked up a package and handed it to Shinki. "This is for you. It's of high quality and has a nice design. You'll look quite handsome wearing it."
Shinki glanced at the Hokage's battle robe—white with red accents. The fine fabric and craftsmanship indicated it was an expensive and carefully selected gift from the daimyo.
He sighed. "How about we switch?"
Orochimaru smirked, clearly amused by Shinki's request. "You must be joking. A Hokage's battle robe is far better than any verbal acknowledgment."
Left with no choice, Shinki reluctantly donned the robe. Surprisingly, it suited him perfectly, giving him a dignified and striking appearance—much better than the simpler half-sleeve design given to Hatake Sakumo.
After briefly inspecting the robe, Orochimaru handed Shinki another scroll. "By the way, here's the test product. It's a bit of a glutton, and raising it might be costly, but I'm sure someone with your abilities can handle it."
Shinki opened the scroll, and two small snakes—one gold and one black—slithered out.
"…You're the only one in the ninja world who would seal psychic beasts in a scroll. Aren't you afraid they'll suffocate in there?" Shinki asked, both impressed and exasperated.
He packed the snakes into a suitable container and asked, "What about your own?"
"The others didn't survive… they died on the test bench," Orochimaru replied casually. "Besides, I don't need these. Manda suits me just fine, even if his personality is a bit eccentric."
Shinki stared at Orochimaru in disbelief. "You just let them die? Do you realize how valuable these snakes are?"
Orochimaru shrugged. To him, the experimental results mattered far more than money or the snakes themselves.
After Orochimaru left, Shinki noticed Pakura observing the snakes curiously. He asked, "What? Are you interested?"
