Chapter 843: Chapter 843 Ottar's Adventure
The Loki Familia planned to help Ais ascend to LV6 and become a super strong adventurer. Meanwhile, Freya Familia's Ottar had also entered this strange new world.
Upon passing through the gateway, Ottar was utterly bewildered, as he realized that it connected to another alternate world.
Despite his confusion, Ottar decided to investigate this place. At the same time, Loki Familia had ventured to a new location: the Farron Keep.
With members of the Loki Familia arriving one after another, they avoided getting lost. As for Ottar, he accidentally touched some flames and was directly transported to the Farron Keep.
The two groups, without meeting, went their separate ways. Ottar, now feeling a bit lost, had no choice but to push forward blindly.
As a result, he soon encountered two humans whose strength had already reached Level 5. They immediately attacked him upon sight.
The two, seeing Ottar, launched their attack without any hesitation. Ottar was taken aback. He hadn't said a word, yet they started fighting. Ottar fought back with all his might. While the two were formidable, they were no match for Ottar.
After all, Ottar's strength was genuinely at Level 7. However, Ottar still didn't know where to go. After defeating the two, he found a staircase leading downward and proceeded without hesitation.
The others, however, were not as fortunate. Under their leader's guidance, they were farming in the swamp above, as these creatures would drop souls necessary for power enhancement.
They cleared every area they passed, leaving hardly any monsters behind. Moreover, the map had many hidden secrets unknown to Ottar.
Though he gained some souls from defeating monsters, he didn't know how to use them, so he continued on to the Farron Keep, also known by the less flattering nickname 'Farron Sewage'.
Why such a name? It was because the area was a toxic swamp that poisoned anyone who stepped into it, with its repulsive color earning it the nickname 'cesspool'. Unaware of this, Ottar walked straight into the swamp.
"The swamp is poisonous!"
It wasn't until he stepped in that Ottar realized the swamp was toxic. Not wanting to linger, he moved quickly through it. Though the poison wasn't terribly harmful to him, he didn't want to endure it longer than necessary.
He soon reached the end of the Farron Keep, facing the gate that connected the three flames.
Ottar wasn't well-versed in the specifics, but he had the strength. The gate in the game was unbreakable, but this wasn't a game. Ottar himself was a reckless adventurer with immense power.
Upon seeing the gate, his first instinct wasn't to search for a mechanism but to try pushing it open directly. During his efforts, Ottar discovered the gate was heavily restricted by mechanisms, prompting him to resort to brute force without hesitation.
Ottar decisively smashed the gate with his massive sword, creating a huge gap in the door. It was an unconventional approach, as most people would have searched for a mechanism, but Ottar didn't bother and just forced his way through.
He drove straight through the opening and ventured into the depths of Farron Keep, where he swiftly dealt with the creatures guarding the gates and opened the main entrance.
As the gate opened, Ottar saw a group of individuals wearing the same attire and wielding large swords, engaged in a fierce battle. Ottar's initial reaction was to think these guys were fighting among themselves, causing a commotion.
In fact, this was a nest fight. The Abyss Watchers' duty was to monitor the Abyss, but those who gazed into the Abyss long enough were eventually tainted by it.
Some members of the Abyss Watchers had been corrupted, and their role now was to eliminate the corrupted ones among them. However, the Abyss Watchers had the Undead trait, so unless their leader fell, the others would continue to revive.
Once the leader fell, all the wolf blood would concentrate on the leader, allowing him to assume the mantle of a new Lord. The Abyss Watchers were unique among Lords, as they were a collective, unlike the singular nature of other Lords.
Upon entering, Ottar chose not to interfere, merely watching and waiting for the battle to conclude.
The fight ended soon enough, with the leader emerging victorious.
"Outsider, what is your purpose here? You're not the Ashen One, and you're likely not here to seek the Lords of Cinder!"
The leader of the Abyss Watchers questioned, curious about Ottar's intentions.
In this regard, Ottar remained silent, once again plunged into confusion. What is Lord of Cinder? What is Ashen One? He didn't know, so he chose to remain silent. The leader, misinterpreting Ottar's silence as defiance, decided to attack.
He raised his weapon, and the two engaged in combat. As a Lord of Cinder, the Abyss Watchers' leader had Level 7 strength even in his normal state, comparable to Ottar's. However, Ottar had additional combat skills and techniques.
Therefore, during their fierce battle, Ottar's combat prowess gave him the upper hand.
"Your strength is impressive, reaching such heights is no easy feat. But defeating us won't be a simple task either!"
Despite being at a disadvantage, the leader didn't feel defeated or expect to lose. The Abyss Watchers functioned as a unit, not as individual corpses. To truly defeat him, Ottar would have to overcome the entire Abyss Watchers.
Ottar didn't care about the nuances. He fought relentlessly, his combat style ferocious and straightforward. After approximately half an hour, Ottar sustained severe injuries but managed to claim the life of the Abyss Watchers' leader.
After slaying his opponent, Ottar collapsed to one knee, as he's critically wounded and on the brink of death.
However, just as Ottar was about to take a moment to rest and plan his departure, he noticed something unusual about the corpses around him.
Scarlet blood began to flow from the bodies, converging and finally seeping into the fallen leader's corpse.
To Ottar's shock, the Abyss Watchers' leader rose once more.
"I told you, defeating us isn't easy. The Abyss Watchers are a collective, and now I am the Lord of Cinder. Only by vanquishing every member of the Abyss Watchers can I fully assume the Lord of Cinder state. So now, let's start round two."
Regardless of Ottar's grievous wounds, the Abyss Watchers' leader showed no intention of backing down. With his resilience and seemingly endless revival, it was no wonder Ottar was forced into reckless and desperate measures.
