Naruto: One Eye Tenseigan

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: The New Face of Karin

The journey through the Land of Grass unfolded in rhythmic silence. Their steps were muffled by the thick carpet of leaves covering the forest floor. Towering trees stretched skyward, their dense canopy filtering sunlight into scattered beams that danced across the ground. The air was rich with the earthy scent of moss and damp wood, a constant reminder of their secluded path.

Tomaru's focus was sharp, his senses attuned to any signs of pursuit. His piercing gaze swept their surroundings, ensuring Karin's safety from Kusagakure's trackers or other hidden dangers lurking in the shadows. The quiet of the forest was both a shield and a threat, its stillness amplifying every faint rustle and distant cry of wildlife.

Suddenly, Tomaru stopped. They had reached a small clearing encircled by ancient trees, their gnarled roots snaking across the ground like silent sentinels. Karin blinked, confused by his abrupt halt.

Standing under the dense canopy, Tomaru placed a steady hand on her head. Karin flinched at first, her instincts urging her to pull away, but she quickly suppressed the reaction. She had decided to follow him, and his calm demeanor gave her no reason to doubt his intentions.

"This will help," he said in his usual steady tone.

Without waiting for her response, Tomaru initiated the process. A soft hum resonated as chakra flowed from his palm. The energy seeped into Karin's body, spreading warmth through her veins. She gasped softly as the transformation began, her skin tingling and shifting with an almost liquid smoothness. It wasn't just a physical alteration—her very essence seemed to ripple under the touch of his chakra, reshaping into something entirely new.

A subtle glow emanated from Tomaru's palm as he infused White Zetsu spores into her body. The transformation began immediately. Karin's red hair faded, softening into a pale pink hue. Her crimson eyes shifted into a striking green, framed by faint red accents that resembled eyeliner. Even her chakra signature, once distinct and easily recognizable, dissolved into something completely untraceable.

When the transformation was complete, Karin hurried to a nearby stream, falling to her knees as she peered into the water. Her trembling hands reached up to touch her hair, brushing through the unfamiliar pink strands.

This... this isn't just a transformation jutsu, Karin thought, staring at her reflection. It's like I've... changed completely. Even my chakra... I can't recognize it anymore. The realization sent a mix of unease and awe coursing through her as she touched her altered features.

Tomaru stood nearby, his arms crossed as he watched her reaction. "Your appearance, scent, and chakra signature have been altered entirely," he said, his voice calm and matter-of-fact. "Kusagakure won't be able to track you now."

Karin turned to look at him, her green eyes wide with a mix of shock and cautious admiration. She brushed her hair back, a small smile creeping onto her face. "It's... I look... beautiful."

Her pale pink hair framed a now-symmetrical, graceful face. Flawless skin and defined cheekbones added a touch of elegance, while her luminous green eyes reflected a newfound allure. The faint scars of old bite marks that once marred her skin had completely vanished.

The transformation not only concealed her identity but redefined her presence, enhancing her natural beauty to an unrecognizable degree.

Tomaru gave a short nod. "We'll keep moving."

"Wait." She stood up, brushing off her knees. "What should I call you?"

There was a brief pause before Tomaru replied, his tone steady but detached. "Touma."

She gave him a curious glance but nodded and fell into step beside him. Their journey to the Land of Earth began in silence.

The path was long, and Tomaru adjusted his pace to match Karin's. While her Uzumaki stamina allowed her to endure more than most, she couldn't keep up with him for long stretches. This slower pace brought frequent rests, an unfamiliar routine for Tomaru, he wasn't traveling alone.

One evening, they stopped near a clearing by a quiet stream. Tomaru prepared a simple meal with roots and herbs he'd gathered. Karin sat nearby, her pale pink hair falling loosely around her shoulders, watching him in silence. Though his demeanor was reserved, his presence offered a reassurance she hadn't known she needed.

Why does someone like him even care about me? The question nagged at her, but she kept it to herself for now.

As the fire crackled, he handed her a bowl of stew before sitting at a distance.

"Th-thank you." Karin accepted it with both hands, staring at the simple meal. She wasn't used to someone else cooking for her—it felt… strange.

Tomaru removed his mask briefly to eat, and Karin froze, her spoon midway to her mouth.

The firelight illuminated his sharp features, spiky silver hair, and piercing dark blue eyes. Her heart skipped a beat as her gaze lingered on his face.

He's... amazing. Is this what he really looks like? The thought made her cheeks flush as her heartbeat quickened. She wasn't used to being caught off-guard like this.

"What?" Tomaru asked, his tone calm but direct.

She shook her head quickly, feeling heat creep up her cheeks. "Nothing... just... not what I expected."

He raised an eyebrow slightly but didn't press. "Expected what?"

"I don't know..." Karin fumbled, her voice trailing off. "I guess I thought you'd look... rougher."

"Rougher?" he echoed, his tone carrying a faint hint of amusement.

"N-no! I mean, it's just—" Karin stammered, her words tangling as her face flushed deeper. She buried herself in her bowl, taking an exaggerated bite to avoid further eye contact.

He didn't respond, finishing his meal with measured movements.

Karin lifted a spoonful of stew to her lips, hesitating. "It's, um… actually pretty good," she ventured softly after taking a bite.

"You sound surprised," Tomaru said, not looking up from his meal.

Karin blinked, her gaze dropping to her bowl. "N-no, I didn't mean it like that! I just… I didn't expect you to be so good at cooking, that's all."

He glanced at her briefly, a shadow of a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Karin lowered her bowl. "Thanks. Not just for the food, but for… everything. I don't think I've ever felt this safe before."

"You don't need to thank me," Tomaru replied without looking up. "We're not done yet."

She nodded, setting her bowl aside. Curling up against her pack, she glanced at him once more. Despite his cold demeanor, she found herself trusting him.

"Good night, Touma," she murmured.

Tomaru gave no reply, but his posture shifted slightly. The night fell silent save for the crackling fire, and for the first time, Karin didn't feel utterly alone.

As they neared the Land of Earth, the terrain grew harsher. The soft, fertile grounds of the Land of Grass gave way to jagged cliffs and rocky paths. Cold winds howled through narrow passes, carrying a chill even under the midday sun.

Tomaru paused at the edge of a cliff overlooking the vast expanse. Towering stone formations dotted the landscape like silent sentinels, their shadows stretching across the earth. "It'll get harder from here," he said.

Karin nodded, tightening her pack. "I'm ready."

The Land of Earth was renowned for its unforgiving terrain. Jagged mountains loomed overhead, and narrow paths wound treacherously through steep inclines. Each day began early, with Tomaru scouting their surroundings before Karin joined him.

They traveled in silence, speaking only when necessary. Tomaru's Tenseigan proved invaluable, revealing patrols and traps hidden among the stone labyrinth. The unyielding landscape tested Karin's resolve, but her Uzumaki blood gave her the stamina to endure.

During one quiet night, camped in a concealed gorge, Karin couldn't hold back her curiosity. "Touma," she began hesitantly, "why are you helping me? You've gone through so much trouble to keep me safe."

Tomaru paused, sharpening a kunai. The firelight danced across his sharp features, shadows flickering across his face. "You have something valuable," he said after a moment.

Her green eyes narrowed. "So, it's just about my abilities?"

Meeting her gaze, his expression remained neutral. "Partly. But I also know what it's like to have no one to rely on."

His words caught her off guard, revealing a rare glimpse of vulnerability beneath his stoic exterior. She nodded slowly. "Thank you," she said softly.

Tomaru resumed his task, the sharp rasp of the kunai filling the silence.

Their journey grew increasingly treacherous. The rocky paths tested their reflexes, and loose stones threatened their footing. Karin quickly learned to follow Tomaru's lead without hesitation. His Tenseigan guided them around dangers both natural and man-made, sparing them from encounters with patrolling shinobi.

The duo developed a routine. Mornings were spent preparing for the day's trek, meals consisted of sparse provisions, and nights brought moments of brief respite by hidden streams or shaded cliffs. Despite the grueling conditions, Karin felt herself growing stronger—not just physically, but mentally.

The Land of Earth was renowned throughout the shinobi world for its rugged terrain, unforgiving climate, and the formidable strength of its people. Towering mountains dominated the landscape, their jagged peaks piercing the heavens, while vast plateaus stretched endlessly under an unrelenting sky. The land itself seemed to embody the essence of earth chakra—resilient, unyielding, and immovable.

Within these mountains lay veins of rare minerals and ores that were the envy of nations. The Land of Earth was a treasure trove of natural resources, its mines yielding everything from high-quality iron ore to unique minerals that possessed chakra-conductive properties. For centuries, these resources had bolstered the nation's economy.

Among these resources, none were more legendary than the Silver Metal Stone. These fragments, infused with natural chakra, were rare and coveted. Lightweight yet incredibly durable, Silver Metal Stone had been used throughout history to craft weapons of great renown. The Kusunagi no Tsurugi, wielded by Orochimaru, was rumored to contain traces of the metal, granting it its razor-sharp edge and unique chakra-conducting properties.

In recent times, its scarcity meant that securing even a small piece of Silver Metal Stone was a monumental challenge. The material's properties made it invaluable for forging chakra-based tools or enhancing existing weapons. Tomaru knew that if he wanted his mask to be both functional and durable, he would need the Silver Metal Stone as a foundation. Katasuke's genius could only go so far without the right materials, and the Land of Earth was the only place to procure them.

Tomaru and Karin entered the bustling mining town of Kyoseki, their presence drawing curious glances. The streets were filled with miners hauling carts of ore, merchants hawking their wares, and blacksmiths tending to roaring forges. The scent of smoke and molten metal hung heavy in the air, mingling with the sharp tang of freshly mined stone. The rhythmic clang of hammers striking anvils created an industrial symphony.

Karin kept silent, her eyes carefully scanning the surroundings as she followed Tomaru. Her trust in his instincts had grown over the journey, and she knew better than to interrupt his focus.

The two approached a group of traders, their wares displayed on worn wooden carts. Tomaru stepped forward, his tone calm yet commanding. "I'm looking for Silver Metal. Do you know where I might find some?"

The traders exchanged wary glances before one of them—a wiry man with a thick beard—spoke up. "Silver Metal, eh? Not much left. Most of what's found gets snapped up by Iwagakure or sold to foreign buyers."

Tomaru's expression remained steady. "I'm willing to pay a fair price."

The man scratched his chin, his eyes narrowing. "If you're serious, you'll want to talk to the foreman of the Kyoseki Mine. He oversees all the operations and might know where some is stored. But he doesn't deal with outsiders easily."

"Where can I find him?" Tomaru asked.

"Top of the hill," the man replied, gesturing toward a large structure overlooking the town. "Good luck. He's a tough one."

Without a word, Tomaru turned and began walking toward the hill, Karin following closely behind.
