Chapter 6: Naruto: Of bone and ice: Chapter 5(2)
"You don't have time to look back, kid!" Juzo shouted, appearing in front of me.
"When did he do that?!" I was pulled out of my thoughts when his punch collided with my chest, even with the bone spike shield that stuck out to block his attack, I was still sent flying. Zabuza and the other two attacked at the same time, but Juuzou made short work of them, throwing them around like rag dolls. No one dared to move or attack him, and so he decided to go on the offensive.
"If no one wants to attack, then let me!" He shouted, running up to the other two who were frozen in fear. Juzo kicked the girl, who slammed into the wall with force, coughing up blood. He then swung at the boy, who despite blocking the attack, was thrown back like a rag doll, bouncing off the water several times before coming to a stop. I could feel the pressure coming from his aura. It felt dark and heavy, as if it was pressing down on me.
Now it was getting dangerous, at first he was playing with us and was calm, but now his bloodlust was showing and his attacks were getting stronger. Someone could easily die if this continued for much longer. Juzo rushed through the other students like an angry bull with a smile on his face. Now he was running towards me and I realized he wasn't joking.
I dodged the first strike that was aimed at my head, ducking under the blow and lunging forward with my bone blade. He dodged my blow and hit me in the forearm, causing me to drop my weapon, he swung the massive blade with such grace and ease and the second attack came low for my knees. I jumped up, spinning in the air, performing a butterfly kick, but as soon as I landed another attack was already landing on my head. Even if I had reinforced my skull, the weight of the blade would have surely knocked me out.
I had to move, I had to do something. Suddenly, Juzo stopped attacking and rushed back. It seemed like I had unconsciously frozen the water around me, and large spikes of ice shot up around me. Juzo sensed danger and avoided the sudden attack.
"Ice!?" He said too loudly. He pointed his blade at me, revealing razor sharp teeth. "What's your name, Kid?" He asked.
"Fuyun Yuki," I said, wishing for the ice to turn back into water.
Juzo laughed. "Yuki, you say. My God, you're so weird."
His words were cut off when Zabuza launched another sneak attack, Juzo grabbed his wrist, spinning it until Zabuza's sword was at his own throat. Juzo held him there for a moment until he let go and pushed him away.
"Lesson over." He said as he walked away, placing his massive sword back on his back. I could feel everyone's eyes on me. It was very unusual to see someone with two Kekkei Genkai. Hell, I was the only one in this village. Shortly after Kenjutsu, the students who were able were sent to the next class. We were forced to specialize in one area, all but a few of us. It made sense. If they only had a small window of time to train ninja, it was best to focus on the strongest abilities and then mix them up when forming squads.
Our next lesson was taijutsu. It was almost the same as our last taijutsu lesson at the academy, but focused on using weapons and targeting the weakest areas of the body. The taijutsu instructor was short but powerfully built, he wore a headband on his forehead and liked to twirl the end of his large mustache. He was very strict when it came to our forms and techniques, constantly repeating that technique was more important than strength. This was true to some extent, but there was some ninja in this world that taijutsu techniques simply couldn't cut.
After the taijutsu practice, all but ten students who had not been selected to attend more than two classes were taken to class. The rest were taken to their final lesson. Five of us, including me, were taken to the ninjutsu instructor, and the rest to genjutsu.
Zabuza was one of those who was also selected for the ninjutsu class, along with two other boys whose names I didn't know, and one girl. Our instructor this time was a woman, and the girl was very pretty, well, if you could see past the filed teeth that most mist ninja seemed to have. She started by giving each of us a small piece of paper.
"Okay, I want each of you to focus your chakra on the paper I just gave you. This will allow me to see what natural affinity you have, and we'll work from there!"
She seemed too cheerful for the hidden mist, but hey, who am I to judge. Everyone channeled their chakra into the paper, waiting to see what would happen next. To my unsurprise, Zabuza's paper became wet, as if it was soaking wet. The girl's paper was cut in half, indicating that she was a wind style user. One of the boys jumped as his paper burst into flames, and the other boy's did the same as Zabuza's.
My own paper got soaked and then tore, of course it wasn't surprising, after all I had an ice Kekkei Genkai that used both water and wind together. The instructor noticed each of the effects of our test and nodded with a smile. When she came to me, she gasped.
"What do we have here?" she asked, taking the wet paper from me. "It's very unexpected for a student to show two elements on the first check."
I nodded and rubbed the back of my head. "I have a Kekkei Genkai sensei," I said with a small smile on my lips. She didn't seem surprised.
"Well that makes sense." She said as she walked back to the middle. Unlike most, she didn't even hint that she cared. "Now your lesson begins, I want you to focus your chakra and combine it with your hand gestures to manipulate the element you are connected to." We all nodded and began.
This was a great chance for me to practice using my ice style, I was so busy at the academy that I never had a chance to use it. Unlike my Kaguya abilities, which I could practice in secret without anyone knowing. We had been doing this for a few hours now and so far none of the others, well except Zabuza, had made any progress. Zabuza managed to turn the water into a large ball and then throw it back to the ground. Sensei was very impressed and said that not many shinobi can learn to use the element on the first day. The others were less fortunate, as none of them even came close to showing signs of their element.
I managed to do quite a bit, even experimenting with some jutsu. First, I formed ice blades like Shimo did when he fought Kachina. Then I discovered that my abilities allowed me to control water with my chakra, once I applied hand signs to it, the effort required was less and the end result was stronger. It didn't go unnoticed that others were jealous of me, but I didn't let it bother me. It was truly a curse to be born without a Kekkei Genkai in this world, and I was blessed with two.
After Ninjutsu practice, we were forced to practice chakra control for two more hours, forced to focus our chakra in our legs more than anywhere else in our bodies. Once it was over, there was a late dinner and then lights out. Sixteen others I shared a room with died in the final exam. I was the only survivor, but it didn't matter and I wouldn't have it any other way. In my three years at this village's Academy, I quickly learned that in this world, strength is everything, and if my determination meant anything, it meant that I would be the strongest.
