NARUTO: Ninja World Scientific Revolution

Chapter 69: CHAPTER 68 - The Familiar Face in Distress

"Everything's too expensive!!" Hyuga Mirai sighed deeply as he walked out of the black market in the Land of Grass. But there was nothing he could do. If he wanted to quickly gather everything and deliver it, he had no choice but to buy from the black market. Thankfully, after spending nearly 120 million ryo, he managed to purchase all the mechanical and electronic components he needed. He owed this to the black market's vast network, as many of the items he sought were custom-designed by himself and weren't available in regular shops. The principle of the black market was simple: if you have the money, they'll get you whatever you want.

After paying a 30-million-ryo deposit, Hyuga Mirai handed over numerous blueprints for specialized mechanical limbs and agreed on the delivery time and location. With everything set, his trip had been a success. Moreover, he had even placed a bounty on Star Shinobi Village's Star Stone—2.5 million ryo. If he specifically hired Kakuzu for the job, he would need to pay an additional sum. However, after this payment, only a little over 2 million ryo remained in his possession. His dream of building his own laboratory still felt far away.

Despite the significant spending, everything had gone smoothly. Mirai had taken less than four days to get everything in order. Now, all that was left was to wait for the shadow clone to return the memories. After that, he could return to the camp in the Land of Rivers to report in. If possible, Mirai actually wanted to explore the Shinobi world a bit more. Since arriving, he had only left the village during missions; otherwise, he had been training within the village. Although he was well aware of the future events in the ninja world, this world itself still felt quite unfamiliar to him.

He wasn't in a hurry to head back. As long as the shadow clone remained, he had plenty of time to take care of other things. Along the way, he passed through three towns and seven villages, and based on what he observed, he gained a rough understanding of the Land of Grass. It was a pitiful little country sandwiched between larger powers. In one of the towns, even the officials had to bow and flatter the merchants from the Land of Fire; if they didn't, the Fire Country's trade caravans might skip their town the next time they came through.

With the Byakugan, Mirai could see nearly everything he wanted to. The tension between Konoha and Iwa had already begun to escalate, but the merchants from the Land of Fire and the Land of Earth were still drinking and chatting like old friends, making arrangements for their next trade. The divide between ninjas and regular people was massive. Konoha felt like a country within a country—when funds ran out, they just asked the Daimyo for more. The only time the Daimyo had a say was when a new Hokage was chosen. Otherwise, the Daimyo had no control over the village. Even the selection of the Hokage was influenced by internal disagreements within Konoha; if there was only one candidate, the Daimyo could only nod in approval and offer congratulations, but that was it.

As he saw the state of the Land of Grass, Mirai thought about his own situation. He really wasn't suited for life within Konoha. The more famous he became, the more the Hyuga clan would push him into high-level politics. However, if he continued to hide his abilities, he would struggle to get research funding, and his experiments would fall behind. The issue with the Caged Bird seal also posed a serious problem. There could be no compromise between him and the Main House on this matter. One side would have to perish to resolve it. Not even the Hokage could intervene. The Caged Bird seal, unlike the Uchiha's Sharingan, was a matter of clan control. If a way to remove it was found, it would shake the Hyuga clan's rule to its core. While the Caged Bird seal might have been created with the intention of protecting the Byakugan, today its purpose was to enforce the dominance of the Main House.

"Is that a ninja? No, wait... that chakra... it's the Uzumaki clan member I encountered a few years ago," Hyuga Mirai thought as he noticed a few chakra signatures in the distance while on the road. He recognized a familiar figure among them. Seven kilometers away, that was the limit of what he could see with his Byakugan, but he could make out the outlines of the people and their chakra pathways. Three of them had average chakra amounts, about the level of Genin or Chunin—nothing worth noting. However, the person on the ground had chakra levels that were nearly seven or eight times higher than his own.

"Let's go check it out," he decided. Without further hesitation, Mirai leaped into the trees and headed toward the location of the Uzumaki clan member.

The Land of Grass had always harbored big ambitions, but unfortunately, its strength didn't match its aspirations. Before wars broke out, the village would always waver between the major nations, trying to gain more benefits. However, once the war ended, they would find that their losses far outweighed what they gained. Konoha and Iwa weren't easily fooled. The first to die when a storm came would always be the one who sat on the fence.

The leader of the Grass Village claims the title of "Kusakage," the leader of a small ninja village. Not only does he claim this title, but he also seeks the recognition of both Konoha and Iwagakure. The last person to do something like this was Hanzo of the Salamander from the Land of Rain, who earned the legendary title of "Demigod" due to his personal strength. But Grass Village is a different story. Its leader is greedy, and the ninja under him are arrogant. The village is notorious for stealing other nations' ninjutsu and renaming them as their own, which made Hyuga Mirai think of a certain thief from his past life.

In this environment, it's no surprise that the ninjas from Grass Village lack the refinement that Konoha's ninjas have. For the common folk of Grass Country, sometimes the Grass ninjas are even more terrifying than mountain bandits.

"Hey, hey, hey, who would've thought that such a village would have a woman like this!" Three Grass ninjas kicked down the door, originally intending to extort half of the food under the pretense of taxation. But what they didn't expect was a young woman with blood-red hair inside. Though she quickly smeared dirt on her face to hide her identity, the three Grass ninjas saw her clearly.

"Hey, Fukuzawa, leave her to me. You don't need to repay me the money you owe!" One of the Grass ninjas, about twenty years old, was quite taken with the woman. Her appearance had stirred his desire, so he spoke to his two companions, "What? Kiyomoto, you're going to keep her all for yourself?"

"I'll give you the technique I got in exchange for a Water Release technique—Water Impact Wave. Let me have her, I'm planning to settle down," he replied, thinking he had a deal.

"Just for one Water Release?" the three discussed amongst themselves, but for Ayaka Uzumaki, it was nothing but dread. She had a strange ability to sense the chakra of ninjas, but having fled the Land of Whirlpools as a child, she had never been trained in the ninja arts. She could only rely on this occasionally functioning ability to evade danger. After finally settling down in this remote mountain village, the Grass ninjas had found her once again.

"Alright, come with us!" The three Grass ninjas finished discussing. The ninja named Kiyomoto had claimed Ayaka Uzumaki as his possession and was now approaching her, intending to drag her back to Grass Village.

"No, no, I don't want to go with you!" Kushina Uzumaki curled up in fear, but the space was too small for her to escape. Soon, Kiyomoto grabbed her by the hair and dragged her out of the house.

"Behave yourself and come quietly!" Kiyomoto was ruthless, pulling her fiery red hair as he forcefully dragged her outside. With each tug, strands of her hair fell to the ground.

"Please, it hurts, let go, I don't want to go with you!" Between pain and fear, Kushina could only keep repeating these words, but for the three Grass ninjas, her pleas meant nothing.

Just as panic and terror rose within her, Kushina could sense the familiar chakra signature of a ninja closing in. It was a feeling she had encountered before, as though she had met this person long ago.

Amid the excruciating pain, a sudden idea sparked in her mind, and memories sealed in her brain began resurfacing through her sensory ability. A pair of pure white eyes appeared in her mind.

"Please, ninja-sama! Ninja-sama! Help me, we met a long time ago! Please, ninja-sama, save me!" Kushina suddenly shouted, but her words confused the three Grass ninjas.

"Still hoping for someone to save you? I'll show you who dares!" Kiyomoto roared in anger. He kicked Kushina aside and drew his kunai, scanning the area. With just the three of them here, there was no one else to help. "Who dares interfere with this?"

Some villagers hid behind their windows, watching through cracks, but none dared speak up. They didn't even dare to move when the Grass ninjas came in to loot. All they could do was silently bear it, huddling together in fear.

At Kiyomoto's shout, the villagers cowered in even more fear, retreating to the corners of their homes, trembling at times.

"Hmph!" Kiyomoto smirked, feeling a sense of satisfaction from the fear of these lowly villagers. His status as a ninja gave him power over them.

He then approached Ayaka Uzumaki and yanked her fiery red hair, grinning maliciously as he asked, "Haha, who do you think will come to your rescue? Who will you call, huh?"

"I believe she's calling for me." A calm voice echoed from behind Kiyomoto. At the same time, he heard the sound of two heavy thuds, as if something had fallen to the ground.

When Kiyomoto instinctively turned to look, all he saw were a pair of pure white eyes before he lost consciousness.
