Chapter 58: spy on Danzo
"Damn that Hatake brat!"
Fugaku Uchiha's face was twisted with anger within the Uchiha clan as he cursed vehemently. Kakashi had returned to the village safely for many days, and Minato Namikaze had already been inaugurated as the Fourth Hokage. Yet, the three Uchiha members sent to retrieve Kakashi's Sharingan had not returned. Fugaku Uchiha knew that something must have happened to them.
Despite his anger, Fugaku also felt a sense of shock and disbelief. How could Kakashi, a newly promoted Jonin, escape from three elite Uchiha members and possibly even kill them?
The thought that the three Uchiha might already be dead caused a pang of pain in Fugaku's heart. They were elite members of the Uchiha clan, and he began to regret his decision. He would not have sent them after Kakashi's Sharingan if he had known it would turn out like this. He would have preferred to keep his clan members alive.
"For now, I'll let that Hatake brat be. He'll be stuck in the Anbu as long as the Uchiha clan exists. If he dares to reveal his Sharingan publicly, the village will handle him; no need for us to act."
With a bitter expression, Fugaku voiced his grudging acceptance. Ultimately, he was wary of Minato Namikaze, now the Hokage. However, his hatred for Kakashi was now deeply ingrained.
Unaware of these events, Kakashi was in the Hokage's office, facing Minato Namikaze.
"'Wolf,' your Anbu squad is down to just you. So, we need to reassign you."
Minato looked at Kakashi and spoke. Kakashi, dressed in his Anbu attire, was referred to by his Anbu codename.
"Yes, Lord Hokage!"
Kakashi refrained from calling Minato 'sensei,' eagerly anticipating his new assignment. Would he lead a new Anbu squad? That would be fantastic!
"'Wolf,' you will report to Danzo at the Anbu headquarters and join the 'Root.' Follow Danzo's orders from now on."
Minato's eyes held a deep and meaningful look as he spoke.
Kakashi was shocked. He hadn't expected to be assigned to Danzo's 'Root' so quickly. He did not want to serve under Danzo.
"Sensei! I don't want to serve under Danzo!"
Unable to hold back, Kakashi addressed Minato as 'sensei,' expressing his reluctance directly.
"Why?"
Minato, surprised, looked at Kakashi. He had expected Kakashi to ask about 'Root,' not outright refuse.
Kakashi took a deep breath, his eyes filled with respect for Minato. He knew he needed a solid reason to refuse Minato's order.
"Sensei, you know the reason behind my father, the White Fang of Konoha's death, right?"
"How do you know about that, Kakashi?"
Even more surprised, Minato stood up, looking at Kakashi with a mix of shock and concern. Only a few knew the details of the White Fang's death.
"I guessed it."
Kakashi, not wanting to reveal his transmigration, claimed he had guessed it. Given his intelligence, it was believable.
Minato's eyes flickered. While not entirely surprised by Kakashi's deduction, he hadn't expected it so soon. He thought Kakashi would realise it after gaining more experience over the years.
"Do you seek revenge for your father?"
Minato asked nervously, fearing this possibility.
"No, my father took his own life out of guilt, and I understand that. I have no reason to avenge him. But I hate Danzo and don't want to work for him."
Kakashi replied passionately.
Minato's tension eased, replaced by a look of satisfaction. Kakashi's understanding and recent positive changes pleased him greatly.
"Good! Since you understand that and hate Danzo, you should join 'Root.'"
Minato smiled at Kakashi. Referring to Danzo as 'that old man' was his way of easing Kakashi's frustration. This natural behaviour was part of Minato's charm, earning trust and recognition effortlessly.
Kakashi was taken aback. He hadn't expected Minato to insist on him joining 'Root' after stating his reasons. Why was this?
"Sensei, you want me to spy on Danzo?"
Kakashi, being quick-witted, soon realised Minato's intention and looked at him with newfound understanding.
