Chapter 14: Meeting Shisui, Shisui's Question
Morning
Under Might Guy's somewhat incredulous gaze, Bai Xuan learned all of the moves of Konoha Strong Fist.
Noon
After training, Bai Xuan invited Might Guy, Tenten, and Naruto to lunch.
After eating, Bai Xuan left.
When Tenten and Naruto went back to exercising and trying to catch up to Bai Xuan, Bai Xuan went to buy weights from Tengang.
Afterwards, Bai Xuan and Hayate went to where Hayate had seen the crows a few days before.
........
Deep in the Forest
Bai Xuan approached the location of the crows, and he saw large wooden bird houses, and the size was enough to house and accommodate at least one thousand crows.
At this time, it was time for the crows to be fed. Uchiha Shisui input his chakra into a sealing scroll, brought out ten buckets of minced meat that he had cut, and began feeding the crows.
The crows were hovering overhead, eating, drinking, or standing on the branches around Shisui, quietly waiting and watching for their food.
Then, Shisui, who was feeding the crows, sensed someone approaching.
His demeanor changed, and he looked behind himself vigilantly.
He then heard footsteps and sensed chakra, but when the figures came in front of him, Shisui let down his guard.
Because he saw a child and his ninja dog.
But noticing the child's age, and the amount of chakra within him, Shisui was shocked.
For someone so young, there was too much chakra!
'So, it turned out to be Uchiha Shisui who owned these crows.'
When Shisui saw Bai Xuan, Bai Xuan also saw Shisui and the crows behind him.
Without even having to count, Bai Xuan new there were hundreds of them.
Seeing the buckets of minced meat on the ground, Bai Xuan had a different thought, 'Shisui seems to be a rich guy!'
And thinking about it, that was indeed the case.
As a direct descendant of Uchiha Kagami, Shisui's family likely had a decent amount of property.
In addition, Shisui himself was very powerful, strong enough to earn himself a moniker during the Third Ninja War, so he likely made a significant amount of money performing tasks.
Otherwise, how could he afford to raise crows on this scale?
After thinking about this, Bai Xuan nodded politely to Shisui.
"Senior, I recognize you. You are Uchiha Shisui, also know as Shisui the Teleporter.
My name is Bai Xuan, and this is my ninja dog companion, Hayate.
A couple days ago, Hayate told me he found a group of crows with chakra, so I came to check it out."
Hearing Bai Xuan, Uchiha Shisui's expression transformed into an accommodating smile.
Before he could speak, however, Bai Xuan continued. "I would like to raise a crow with chakra as a summoning beast. Senior Shisui, if it's not too much to ask, I would like to purchase one from you.
I can pay in Ryo, or if you have a different method of payment you would prefer, please tell me."
After Bai Xuan spoke, Shisui fell into thought.
Looking Bai Xuan and Hayate up and down, Shisui considered once again that Bai Xuan's chakra was exceptional for his age, and he also began to appreciate Bai Xuan's mind.
To be able to communicate with a stranger so efficiently at such a young age, Shisui thought that maybe Bai Xuan might have an interesting answer to a question he had been considering.
So, considering that maybe this encounter was fate, (Or a deliberate encounter thought up by the author because he wanted a cool crow summon and an in with the Uchiha), Shisui responded to Bai Xuan.
"I am not short on money, and I don't need any different material compensation, if you want a crow, let me ask you a question.
If you can give me an answer, I will let you pick a crow to take with you."
Shisui's offer was beyond Bai Xuan's expectations, and his eyebrows raised involuntarily.
After considering for a moment, Bai Xuan replied, "Senior Shisui, please ask your question, and I will answer if I can."
Shisui nodded, and then began, "Since you are familiar with me, you also must know that I am from the Uchiha clan.
The question I want to ask is this: Why would someone within the Uchiha clan regard the Uchiha clan as more important than the village of Konoha, where the Uchiha reside?"
After asking this question, even without yet receiving an answer, Shisui seemed to release some tension.
Seeing this change, Bai Xuan began to understand the situation.
It seemed that Shisui was under too much pressure, with this question heavily weighing on his mind. And being unable to ask anyone this question, Shisui must have been very stressed until today, when he finally couldn't help voicing it out.
Thinking of this, Bai Xuan felt a bit exasperated, thinking, 'This world really is a bit twisted.'
Thanks to the Will of Fire, just a bit of propaganda, a simple phrase, Uchiha Shisui can be driven to suicide and Uchiha Itachi can slaughter his entire clan, even his own parents, with his own hands.
However, Bai Xuan is beginning to understand.
In this world, the Hokage uses the Will of Fire to brainwash all of the villagers from a young age, creating the belief that the village is above everything.
And because of the Sharingan, the Uchiha clan's emotions are very extreme. Where regular villagers might just talk to their friends about their troubles, or maybe have a small brawl, the Uchiha commit suicide, eradicate their clan, or consider rebelling.
So, although every villager is instilled with the mantra of the Will of Fire, they still behave relatively normally.
In his analysis, Bai Xuan decided that these problems stemmed from a lack of proper education. In his old world, regardless of the nation, most if not all children went through educational courses where different understandings of the concepts of morality, ideology, and justice were discussed.
While their were still some who basked in their own imagined moral superiority, the majority of citizens still had a grounded view of reality thanks to their childhood education.
But in this world, there is only the Will of Fire for Konoha, making their moral values and ideological ideals somewhat distorted.
Thinking of this, Bai Xuan finally responded to Shisui's question.
"It should be a problem related to the conflicting environments.
Within the Uchiha clan, parents probably tell their children that they are members of the Uchiha clan, how great the Uchiha clan is, instilling the need to live up to the Uchiha name and the pride of the Uchiha.
Whether it is the parents, elders, or friends around them, they are taught to believe that the Uchiha are superior, and over time, they will begin to believe that as well.
There is a saying, those who are close to vermillion will turn red, and those who are close to ink will turn black.
It means that people will changed based on the type of people they generally associate with.
Therefore, if everyone around you tells you that something is true, you will eventually believe it.
So to answer your question, the reason why someone from the Uchiha would consider the Uchiha clan more important than the village is because they have been told that throughout their entire lives that the Uchiha are superior to the common people, and so they naturally believe that their interests within the clan are more important than the interests of the village as a whole."
Bai Xuan used a pretty conventional answer to respond to Shisui, but after hearing Bai Xuan, Shisui seemed to be in deep thought.
What Bai Xuan said made sense, the Uchiha were indeed like this.
But this brought about a new question, and Shisui began thinking.
'If this is the case, how do I solve the problem?
Can I still save the people who have the idea 'The Uchiha are above everything' rooted in their heads?
No, they can't be changed quickly enough for it to matter.
But there still may be children who can be saved.'
But after thinking this, Shisui came across another problem.
How could he change the environment of the children enough to save them from themselves?
Now, although Shisui has a headache from thinking too much, he also has a direction to work towards.
This direction greatly relieved the pressure and despair in Shisui's heart.
Because of this, Shisui turned towards Bai Xuan and bowed his head slightly in thanks.
"Your answer helps solve a problem that has puzzled me for a long time.
Thank you, Bai Xuan.
As agreed, please choose whichever crow you would like, and you can take it with you when you leave."
