Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Ikeno ran forward and said, "Kakashi-sensei, I want to challenge you alone, but could you let them... leave first? I don't want them to be frightened by my... bones."
Kakashi, always ready for a duel, agreed. In a flash, he was at the side of the other kids still digging in the dirt. Using a subtle genjutsu, he made them fall asleep instantly.
Ikeno dismissed his Shadow Clones and sent Ritoru back.
"Toshi Ikeno, I hope you won't disappoint me," Kakashi said.
"Sensei, you better be careful, because I'm getting serious this time!" Ikeno responded with a grin.
With that, the playful expression on his face vanished, replaced by one of sharp focus.
"Dead Bone Pulse: Dance of the Camellia!"
He drew a bone sword from his right arm and rushed at Kakashi with impressive speed. Kakashi quickly pulled out a kunai.
Clang!
The bone sword clashed with the kunai, producing a clear sound. Ikeno moved fluidly, his strikes swift and precise. His movements created blurs of white, each blow faster than the last, which caught Kakashi off guard.
"Dead Bone Pulse: Dance of the Camellia!"
As Ikeno chanted, bones pierced through his clothing, which he suddenly noticed.
"Ah, crap! I forgot to change my outfit! Ugh, I just got these new clothes too! Wait a minute, don't I know some tailoring skills? Next time, I'll make a proper battle outfit..."
Kak!
There was a dull sound as Kakashi's vest and sleeve were torn open by the emerging bones, blood slowly oozing out.
"Impressive!" Ikeno's hands crossed over his chest, and with a sudden burst of chakra, four new bone spurs shot out, his arms now covered in dangerous bone blades.
With quick agility, Kakashi dodged just in time to avoid getting seriously hurt, but he had to increase the distance between them.
"Alright," Kakashi said as he leapt into the air and formed a hand sign, landing and placing his hands on the ground.
"Earth Style: Mud Wall!"
The earth trembled as a thick, dog-headed stone wall rose up to shield him.
"Typical Kakashi... Always showing off, even when using jutsu like this," Ikeno chuckled.
What Kakashi didn't anticipate was the extreme sharpness of Ikeno's bones. With a heavy punch and the aid of his strange strength, Ikeno pierced right through the wall, sending pieces of the dog's head flying.
Kakashi's mind raced, filled with disbelief. "He broke through my wall so easily..."
Despite dodging just in time, Kakashi was clearly shaken. Ikeno's combination of power and technique was a force to be reckoned with.
Ikeno could have finished the battle quickly by combining his multi-Shadow Clones with a fireball or lightning-style attack, but it seemed cruel to do that against someone as beloved as Kakashi. He instead decided to use a more subtle approach.
With a quick motion, he struck towards Kakashi's waist, his bone spur grazing the bell. It was within his grasp.
Yet, as he rushed forward, the momentum sent him towards a large rock wall. Kakashi, fearing Ikeno might injure himself, grabbed him mid-air.
But something was off—Kakashi was in two places at once. One Kakashi waved and disappeared in a puff of smoke, revealing the real one.
"He used a Shadow Clone to distract me!" Ikeno realized. But at the same time, he also felt Kakashi's hand reaching for the bell.
Anger boiled within him, but instead of reacting hastily, Ikeno smirked.
Poof!
In a flash of light, Ikeno transformed into a girl in Kakashi's arms, causing Kakashi to blush slightly.
With a mischievous grin, Ikeno returned to his original form and summoned several lightning balls that crackled in his hand.
"Zzzz!"
The electricity rolled off his palms, making Kakashi let out a soft "ouch" as the electricity numbed him.
Kakashi's limbs weakened, and he fell to the ground. Sensing the opportunity, Ikeno pretended to fall on top of him, taking the chance to tug at Kakashi's mask.
Kakashi, dazed from the Lightning Style, realized what Ikeno was doing, but it was too late. Ikeno had pulled down his mask, revealing his face. For a moment, Kakashi was stunned, and then, so was Ikeno.
He was mesmerized by what he saw: a handsome face, with a beauty mark on Kakashi's lips, just as described in the anime.
Various theories about why Kakashi wore a mask ran through Ikeno's head, but he couldn't resist teasing him.
"Kakashi-sensei, I know why you wear a mask all the time."
Kakashi, curious, asked, "Why's that?"
Ikeno grinned, "Because if you walked around without it, there'd be a line of people from Konoha to the Sand Village just to be your—"
Kakashi blinked, then chuckled. "This kid sure knows how to flatter." He adjusted his mask back into place. "You're quite the character."
Kakashi stood up, back to his usual demeanor. He turned serious again, ready to continue.
But Ikeno wasn't done yet.
"Earth Style: Mud Wall!"
With a loud boom, another mud wall with four cat heads shot up from the ground. To Kakashi's amazement, the earth erupted like a dragon as the mud surged upward.
Meanwhile, the genjutsu on Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura wore off, and they ran towards the scene, their jaws dropping at the sight.
Kakashi was speechless, awestruck by the impressive display. For the first time in years, he felt overwhelmed.
Finally, the alarm rang, signaling the end of the challenge.
Kakashi regrouped with the students. Looking at the four of them, he spoke calmly, "Have you all thought about it? If only one of you grabs the bell, the other three will have to go back to the Academy."
Everyone fell silent.
Ikeno, however, smiled knowingly. He was already familiar with Kakashi's way of testing teamwork.
Sasuke sighed, "I lost."
Naruto, looking determined, said, "I'll get that bell next year, believe it!"
Sakura mumbled, "I didn't even get to do anything..."
Ikeno then acted generously, offering to share the bell.
Kakashi, amused by their teamwork and character, finally made his decision.
"Toshi Ikeno's individual abilities are remarkable, and his coordination with Sasuke is perfect. Naruto shows great potential for teamwork, even if his personal skills need work. And Sakura, well... she helped dig."
In the end, Kakashi smiled and announced, "You've all passed. From today, you are officially Konoha Genin."
With those words, he handed them their boxed lunches, and they sat there, dazed yet overjoyed. Well, Ikeno only pretended to be surprised...
Kakashi, back to his laid-back self, added, "You can rest tomorrow. We'll meet the day after for our first mission!"
As he left, Kakashi felt a renewed excitement. Maybe being an instructor wasn't going to be so boring after all.
At that moment, Ikeno's long-awaited reward finally appeared.
