Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Shin vs Whitebeard
However, the so-called normal situation is just a hypothetical situation. Even if the chakra system, more powerful than the standard techniques of the seas, isn't employed, Shin has an edge: the unique advantage of wielding three devil fruits.
"I may not have awakened the Conqueror's Haki, which is disappointing, but I do have other ways to compensate," Shin remarked, a grin spreading across his face. As he spoke, scales like dragon hide grew on his skin, transforming him into a half-dragon form and increasing his height to nearly four meters.
"Is that the Azure Dragon fruit? So, it looks like you're serious," Whitebeard said, grabbing his massive weapon, the Bisento (Naginata), that had been sticking out of the ground. A blend of white energy and black lightning entwined around the blade, exuding a formidable aura as he swung it down.
Shin roared fiercely. The top-tier Mythical Zoan fruit, Azure Dragon, influenced his temper—now fiercer and slightly more aggressive. He raised his fist, emitting a strange black mist that absorbed the white radiance of Whitebeard's shockwave, dissipating it even as the Bisento, coated in Haki, clashed directly with Shin's darkened dragon claws.
The two powerful forces didn't create the expected explosive noise. Instead, the gusts around them stilled, though cracks began forming along the ground where they stood, eventually shattering the entire island surface with massive fissures.
Using his half-dragon transformation and the dark-dark fruit's abilities to nullify Whitebeard's Quake-Quake fruit, Shin managed to meet Whitebeard's mighty strike head-on, both staggering back after the clash.
Whitebeard looked at Shin with a new respect, surprised by the sheer strength Shin had acquired. "Is that another devil fruit power?" Whitebeard inquired, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully at the residual black mist.
"Indeed. As a pirate, I've kept a few secrets up my sleeve," Shin said with a smile. "So, Pops, do you want to continue?"
"Gurararara! Of course! But this time, I want to see your peak strength!" Whitebeard bellowed, a serious gleam in his eyes. "Let's see how high you can reach!"
Shin paused, then chuckled, "Alright then… but brace yourself, Pops."
"Bring it on!" Whitebeard replied, readying himself.
Shin took a deep breath, and the fierce power of his chakra surged. His eyes flashed, transforming into the Rinnegan.
"Six Paths—Lightning Release Chakra Mode!"
"Eight Gates—Susanoo Armor!"
With each successive technique, Shin's aura intensified, building to an overwhelming level. Whitebeard could feel the force emanating from Shin like a dormant volcano ready to erupt, even without the capability to sense chakra.
Golden lightning crackled around him, casting the deserted island in an intense, luminous glow. The ground beneath Shin's feet caved into a crater, reflecting the force he radiated. His dark chakra armor gleamed like dark gold under the brilliant lightning.
For the first time in his life, Whitebeard felt a spark of fear, not due to any lack of resolve but from an instinctive response to a power surpassing his understanding.
"Here I come!"
Suddenly, Shin became a dark golden blur, surging forward with unimaginable speed. Although Whitebeard's observation haki sensed Shin's approach, his body lagged a fraction behind, unable to keep up with the sheer velocity.
A resounding crash echoed as Shin's dark golden form collided with Whitebeard's massive frame, sending him flying several kilometers across the landscape. He tore through the island, leaving a vast trench over ten meters wide in his wake. The trench extended into the distant ocean, churning the water into a frothy red against the moonlit waves.
"I think… I might have overdone it," Shin muttered, catching his breath before rushing toward where Whitebeard had landed.
After a short while, Shin fished Whitebeard out from the sea.
Though bruised, Whitebeard's injuries weren't as dire as they appeared. Compared to the strain he had weathered in life, he fared remarkably well.
Slightly dazed, Whitebeard struggled to stand, chuckling despite himself. "You got me there, Shin," he said, wiping the blood from his mouth and adjusting his posture. His ribs were sore, and a fist-shaped dent marked his chest, but he seemed otherwise amused by the encounter.
"Pops, I apologize. I went all out and couldn't control it," Shin said, scratching the back of his head, a bit embarrassed.
Whitebeard's smile faltered slightly; his pride as a warrior momentarily stung, but he nodded in acceptance.
Shin raised his hand toward him, "Secret Jutsu—Cellular Regeneration Ejection!"
[A/N: This is Jugo's jutsu, where he gives his flesh to injured people, thus healing any injuries they may have received.]
A mass of regenerative cells emerged from Shin, enveloping Whitebeard and swiftly healing his wounds. The process revitalized him, filling Whitebeard with a vitality he hadn't felt in years. Although he had remained strong and vigorous, a faint trace of aging had crept in over time. Now, under Shin's technique, his body seemed to surge with renewed life.
