Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Galactic Legacy
"Shin, it's actually you!"
"How did you do it? It's incredible, isn't it?"
"Aren't you the user of Munch-Munch fruit? How did you gain the power of the Azure Dragon Fruit?"
"Shin, I heard you defeated Kaido. Is it true?"
When the crew of the Whitebeard Pirates saw Shin, they were astounded, and their curiosity exploded into rapid questions.
Shin hadn't expected these middle-aged men to be so gossipy. Momentarily flustered by the bombardment of questions, he found some reprieve as Whitebeard noticed his discomfort and gently patted the air, sending out a controlled vibration that subtly shook the inquisitive crew.
Shin brushed his hair back, looked at the crew, who was still eyeing him curiously, and began thinking about how to craft a believable story.
After all, telling them he could travel between worlds might sound like an unbelievable story, and Shin had no desire to reveal his origins.
As for the details of the Munch-Munch fruit's effects, that was even less appealing. He still had many powerful abilities to analyze, and Shin wanted to avoid causing unnecessary suspicion.
As for Blackbeard, Shin didn't feel particularly concerned. Even if the secret of the dark-dark fruit were exposed, it wasn't as though Blackbeard could challenge him in his current state.
"Well, actually, it's a unique talent of my race," Shin replied, thinking quickly.
"You all know that I possess the strange power of chakra, right? But this power only reaches its peak in adulthood, so what you've seen before was merely my childhood potential. Now that I'm an adult, my abilities are complete."
"It's precisely because I've reached adulthood and gained this power boost that I could defeat Kaido so easily!"
"As for my ability to transform into an Azure Dragon—it's because my race can consume multiple devil fruits!"
The Whitebeard Pirates' members looked at each other in wonder.
"The power of chakra is truly mysterious, but why have I never heard of it before? And I've certainly never heard of anyone eating two Devil Fruits," Teach, futurely known as Blackbeard, chimed in, visibly intrigued.
"Alright, Teach, that's Shin's private matter," Whitebeard intervened. "We don't need to know the origins of his power; it's time to celebrate with a banquet!"
"Yes, a banquet!"
"Welcome to our hero who defeated Kaido!"
When a banquet was mentioned, the Whitebeard Pirates were immediately swept away in excitement, and their curiosity was swiftly forgotten.
However, as they celebrated, Blackbeard lowered his head slightly, an unreadable expression flickering in his eyes.
By midnight, most of the Whitebeard Pirates were deeply intoxicated, while Shin, having stuck to low-alcohol fruit wine, remained quite clear-headed.
He wandered onto the deck, letting the sea breeze wash over him, and spotted Blackbeard standing watch at the ship's bow.
"Does this guy never need to sleep?" Shin thought with mild surprise, before realizing it made sense.
In truth, Shin likely had this ability as well, thanks to his body enhancements. But he'd never tested it; the thought of never sleeping sounded novel but not particularly comfortable.
Blackbeard spotted Shin approaching and greeted him with a smile, looking both excited and sheepish.
"Shin, with your unique physique...how many devil fruits can you consume? And are there others like you in your race?"
Shin glanced at Blackbeard, wondering if he truly believed him and even suspected they might share the same heritage.
As for Blackbeard's strange physique, Shin recalled that the mysteries around it were never explained in One Piece. The guy seemed like a gambler, daring to try eating multiple devil fruits without certainty of survival.
Since Blackbeard was so curious, Shin didn't mind feeding his intrigue.
"My race can eat up to three Devil Fruits in total. As for others...they might exist, but I wouldn't know if they're on this planet."
"This planet?" Blackbeard repeated, surprise evident.
"Yes, actually, I'm not originally from this planet. According to my inherited memories, I ended up here due to a malfunction, crossing a turbulent wormhole."
Shin chuckled as he explained.
Blackbeard's eyes went wide. He had not anticipated this twist. An alien? This was entirely beyond what he'd expected!
"I was transported to this planet when I was quite young. Thankfully, my family equipped me with electronic chips implanted in my brain, enabling me to discover my origins," Shin continued.
"You look a bit stunned, Teach. Are you that surprised?"
"Ah...yes, very much so," Teach stammered, forcing a smile. "An alien race...who could have imagined?"
Meanwhile, Teach's mind raced with questions about his own odd body. Could he be of alien origin, too? But he had no brain chip and no sign of chakra…
As for the idea of awakening untapped power after turning 18...he should probably just sleep on it!
While Teach wrestled with Shin's tale, trying to reconcile it with his own speculations, Shin left the deck and went to the captain's quarters.
Pushing open the door, he found Whitebeard drinking inside.
The old man had already downed several barrels of wine at the banquet, yet here he was, drinking again. Shin briefly wondered if the veins of these old pirates were filled with rum.
"Gu ra ra ra ra, the alien kid arrives," Whitebeard laughed, setting down his drink as he noticed Shin.
Shin rolled his eyes. Whitebeard, as usual, liked to pick up on secrets with his haki.
"Still, I didn't expect your background to be so impressive," Whitebeard chuckled. "Are all members of your alien race as strong as you?"
Considering the powerful Otsutsuki clan from the Naruto world, Shin pondered briefly, concluding that his strength was comparable to that of an average member of that race.
So he answered honestly, "It's not entirely out of the ordinary. The combat power is likely above that of the Four Emperors, but their battle experience may be lacking, so in a real fight, the outcome could vary."
Whitebeard didn't know Shin was referencing aliens from the Naruto world. To him, the statement was fascinating but also sobering.
"I never thought our strength would only be considered the starting point in the universe," Whitebeard said, sounding nostalgic. "If I'd known this decades ago, I'd have traveled to space myself."
