Chapter 190: Chapter 188: Hell Valley

Chapter 188: Hell Valley

One week later.

Outside Hell Valley

Baishi stood at the edge of the infamous Hell Valley, staring at the sickly yellow-green poisonous mist. He muttered, "No mistake. This is the place."

With that, he took a deep breath.

The poisonous mist stirred, whirling like a serpentine dragon, rushing eagerly into his nostrils.

Moments later, Baishi opened his system panel. As he anticipated, the "Abnormal State" section indicated that he was now poisoned.

Seeing this, Baishi wasn't alarmed—instead, a delighted grin spread across his face. "It works!"

A week ago, after deciding to fuse his resistances during the evolution of Cell Adaptability, Baishi began focusing on improving Heat Resistance, Cold Resistance, and Poison Resistance.

Cold Resistance, being at level IV, was relatively easy to upgrade. However, Poison Resistance at level VII and Heat Resistance at level VIII were far more challenging to enhance.

That's when he recalled the unique environment of Hell Valley.

Roughly two centuries ago, a meteorite struck a small nation nestled between the Land of Earth and the Land of Wind, known as the Land of Bears.

The impact left a massive crater and unleashed catastrophic radiation that devastated the local ecology. Over time, the radiation gave birth to a region shrouded in toxic mist—a stretch of treacherous cliffs and valleys.

This area eventually became known as Hell Valley, a natural border for the Land of Bears. The deadly mist repelled trespassers, leading locals to give it such a foreboding name.

Baishi came here precisely for that toxic mist.

At level VII, ordinary poisons had little to no effect on him, rendering most environments useless for advancing his Poison Resistance. However, while quality might have diminished in importance, quantity still held potential.

The immense concentration of toxins in Hell Valley offered the perfect opportunity. By absorbing the mist, he could accelerate the evolution of Poison Resistance with unparalleled efficiency.

Baishi had just tested the method, and it worked splendidly.

"Let's begin."

He leapt into the valley, spreading his Wind Wings mid-air to glide towards the densest concentration of poisonous mist.

---

Minutes Later

Baishi landed on a protruding rock face deep within Hell Valley. He examined the almost tangible cloud of toxins surrounding him, nodding in satisfaction.

"Perfect. This will do."

He sat cross-legged, activating Energy Absorption to draw in natural energy. Before initiating any upgrades, he planned to enter Sage Mode, ensuring maximum efficiency when utilizing his energy.

Nearly two hours passed. As the silver markings of Sage Mode appeared on his face, Baishi stretched slightly before taking a deep inhale.

A torrent of poisonous mist surged into his lungs, and his complexion quickly turned an unnatural shade of green. His body screamed in protest, but Baishi merely smirked and activated the evolution of Poison Resistance.

As expected, the concentrated toxins provided a noticeable boost to his evolution rate.

However, ordinary poisons were still ordinary. While their sheer quantity gave him an initial surge in progress, it wasn't long before his advanced resistance neutralized the effects. Within minutes, the "Poisoned" status disappeared from his system panel.

Undeterred, Baishi inhaled deeply again, drawing another dose of toxins into his body.

Thus began a peculiar cycle.

In this deadly, uninhabitable valley, a young man sat meditating amidst the lethal mist. Periodically, he would take exaggerated breaths, his face contorting momentarily before a serene smile returned.

Had anyone witnessed this, they might have mistaken him for a martial artist practicing some esoteric poison-based technique.

Fortunately, this was the ninja world, and no one was around to see.

Two Months Later

Deep within Hell Valley, Baishi completed another cycle of evolution. Just as he prepared to take another breath, he paused abruptly, his gaze shifting in a specific direction.

His ears twitched slightly as though catching a distant sound.

"Hmm?"

A faint noise reached him. Baishi narrowed his eyes and murmured, "Them again?"

He opened his system panel.

The progress bar for Poison Resistance now read X (98.7%). After two months of consistent effort, he had nearly reached the breakthrough point.

Contemplating briefly, Baishi muttered, "It's close enough. Might as well prepare to finish it now…"

Turning his attention back to the sound, Baishi's eyes sharpened.

Elsewhere in Hell Valley

Amidst the faint green haze, three figures advanced cautiously. Leading the group was Akaboshi, flanked by Yataka and Kikyo. They moved in a search formation, their movements deliberate.

Suddenly, Akaboshi raised his hand, signaling the others to halt.

Yataka and Kikyo approached quickly, their expressions questioning.

"What is it, Akaboshi? Did you find something?" Yataka asked in a low voice.

Akaboshi crouched down, pointing to a snapped white bone on the ground. "Look here. This was recently broken."

Examining the area, Yataka nodded in agreement. "These are human footprints."

"Could it be from the previous scouting team?" Kikyo suggested.

"Impossible," Akaboshi replied firmly. "Before we left, I thoroughly debriefed the other teams. None of them came this way."

He paused, adding, "This is why I insisted on investigating this area. And now, it seems my instincts were correct. We've finally picked up their trail."

"Oh? Is that so?"

A teasing voice echoed through the haze, cutting through the tension.

"Who's there?!"

Akaboshi and his companions immediately drew their kunai, huddling together defensively as they scanned their surroundings.

Footsteps approached, deliberate and unhurried. Moments later, Baishi emerged from the mist, his expression calm.

The trio's eyes widened in shock—not because of Baishi's sudden appearance, but because he stood amidst the poisonous mist without any protection.

For most, even diluted mist in this area was dangerous. Yet Baishi stood unscathed, his demeanor casual.

"Who… who are you?" Akaboshi demanded, forcing himself to steady his voice. "This is the Land of Bears' territory. What business do you have here?"

Baishi chuckled softly, but before he could respond, his expression hardened. Chakra surged from his body, and with a resounding crack, the ground beneath him fractured.

The oppressive wave of chakra forced Akaboshi and his comrades back. Yataka and Kikyo barely managed to keep their footing, while Akaboshi staggered, nearly falling.

"Akaboshi, are you okay?" Yataka asked urgently.

"I'm fine," Akaboshi muttered, his breathing labored. "Be careful. His chakra… it's monstrous!"

He had attempted to use his Puppet Veil: Eye technique to probe Baishi's strength but was met with overwhelming resistance. The recoil alone left him shaken.

Baishi sighed, his patience wearing thin. Forming a hand seal, he activated his modified Mind Body Clone Technique.

Three streams of spiritual energy shot forth, invading Akaboshi, Yataka, and Kikyo's minds. Within moments, their bodies froze, their movements no longer their own.

Baishi approached Akaboshi, sensing the unusual activity within his chakra network.

"Ah, your chakra is quite active," Baishi murmured. "But… it's not enough to resist me."

With a flick of his hand, Baishi applied a series of seals to Akaboshi: Self-Curse Binding Seal, Root Curse Tongue Seal, Mind Seed, and a Flying Thunder God Marker for good measure.

Satisfied, Baishi turned to Yataka and Kikyo, subjecting them to the same treatment.

Once his preparations were complete, Baishi raised his head, his gaze fixed on a nearby cliff.

"Now then," he called out, "why don't you two come out and join the fun?"

At his words, two figures stepped into view from the shadows.
