Chapter 137: Chapter 135: Success (Part 2)
Chapter 135: Success (Part 2)
A peculiar stone forest not far from Iwagakure became the site of an intense battle that night.
On one side were five masked figures, clad in dark cloaks—Root ninjas. Opposing them were over twenty Iwagakure ninjas, including members of the Iwa ANBU and several chunin and jonin.
The disparity in numbers left the Root ninjas in a precarious position. The Iwa ninjas, however, were cautious, reluctant to risk unnecessary casualties by forcing the Root operatives into a desperate counterattack. After all, the Root ninjas were already wounded from their earlier escape attempt. If the Iwa forces had pressed their advantage, they could have ended the skirmish quickly.
But Iwagakure's leadership had given explicit orders to proceed with caution, suspecting that reinforcements might arrive to support the enemy.
And so, the stalemate dragged on.
However, caution alone wasn't enough to guarantee success.
---
Suddenly, a new figure appeared among them.
"Be careful!"
A sharp voice from one of the Iwa ANBU broke the tension. Recognizing the newcomer, the ninja hurled a kunai without hesitation.
The kunai streaked toward Baishi, but he remained calm. Five months prior, his Five Sense Enhancement had reached Level X, granting him unparalleled sensory perception.
Not only could he easily track the projectile with his eyes, but even if it had come from behind, his enhanced senses would have warned him in time.
Baishi sidestepped casually, dodging the kunai. In the same motion, he flicked his wrist, sending six kunai flying in quick succession.
The Iwa ninjas scrambled to react. Some tried to dodge, while others attempted to block or deflect. But Baishi's kunai were too fast and accurate. Three ninjas failed to evade in time and were struck down instantly, their vital points pierced.
The remaining three barely avoided fatal wounds, only to find themselves facing Baishi's relentless follow-up.
The Iwa ninjas' counterattacks finally reached him—but Baishi didn't even glance at them. With a thought, he activated the Flying Thunder God Technique, vanishing from their midst.
---
Squelch!
The sound of flesh being pierced rang out. Baishi materialized next to one of the wounded Iwa ninjas, a thin wooden spike extending from his fingertip. The spike punctured the ninja's heart, ending his life instantly.
Before the Iwa forces could react, Baishi blinked out of existence again, reappearing moments later to dispatch two more injured ninjas.
His movements were fluid and methodical, each teleportation marked by another life taken.
But he wasn't done yet. Producing six more kunai, Baishi hurled them in various directions with seemingly casual precision.
This time, two Iwa ninjas were killed outright, their vital points struck with unerring accuracy. Four others managed to avoid immediate death, but their reprieve was short-lived. Baishi blinked between them with the Flying Thunder God Technique, eliminating each one in rapid succession.
---
In the span of a single breath, Baishi had slain twelve Iwa ninjas.
The first corpse had barely hit the ground when the surviving Iwa forces froze, their minds struggling to process what had just happened.
"Thud!"
The sound of a body collapsing seemed to echo unnaturally loudly in the now-silent battlefield.
A nervous gulp broke the stillness, followed by a trembling voice: "F-Flying Thunder God...?"
The sight of Baishi wielding the Flying Thunder God Technique triggered buried memories among the Iwa ninjas—memories of the devastation wrought by Minato Namikaze during the Third Shinobi War.
The mere mention of Minato's name was enough to send shivers down the spines of veteran Iwa shinobi. The Flying Thunder God Technique had left scars not just on their ranks but on the collective psyche of their entire village.
In fact, Iwagakure had once issued a standing order: if any ninja encountered Minato Namikaze during a mission, they were permitted to abandon the mission and flee immediately, free of any repercussions.
This directive was a source of deep shame for Iwagakure's warriors, who prided themselves on prioritizing their missions above all else. Yet, it also underscored just how much they feared Minato and his signature technique.
Now, seeing Baishi use the same devastating jutsu to slaughter their comrades, the surviving Iwa ninjas found themselves gripped by a desperate urge to flee.
---
But Baishi had no intention of letting them escape.
He glanced toward the distant sky, sensing a powerful chakra signature rapidly approaching. Though he couldn't see him yet, Baishi knew that Ōnoki was en route to the battlefield.
Time was of the essence. He couldn't afford to waste a single moment.
Reaching to his right hand, Baishi activated the Phantom Ring on his middle finger.
The red gem embedded in the ring glowed faintly, capturing the attention of everyone present. For a brief moment, the Iwa ninjas found themselves mesmerized by the light.
Their vision blurred, and they began to see phantom feathers drifting gently around them, a strange drowsiness creeping over their minds.
"No! This is genjutsu!"
One of the Iwa ANBU managed to shout out a warning, snapping some of his comrades out of their daze. They quickly disrupted their own chakra flows, breaking free of the illusion.
But even with the Mangekyō Sharingan's boost, Baishi's Temple of Nirvana Technique was ultimately just an A-rank genjutsu. Against skilled jonin and genjutsu-trained shinobi, it wasn't enough to incapacitate them for long.
Still, it had served its purpose.
---
While the Iwa ninjas were occupied breaking free of the genjutsu, Baishi formed a series of hand seals. Slamming his palm onto the ground, he activated Wood Release: Flowering Tree World Creation.
Instantly, a dense forest sprang up, encompassing a radius of over a hundred meters.
The Iwa ninjas blinked in confusion, momentarily disoriented by the sudden transformation of their surroundings. Some even wondered if they were still under the influence of genjutsu.
But their doubts were soon dispelled.
"Bloom!"
At Baishi's command, three massive flowers emerged from the forest canopy. Their vibrant petals unfurled gracefully, revealing golden pollen-filled cores.
A soft breeze carried the pollen through the forest, spreading it rapidly.
"This is—"
An Iwa ANBU member's eyes widened in recognition, but before he could finish his sentence, he succumbed to the powerful sedative effects of the pollen.
One by one, the Iwa ninjas collapsed, unable to resist.
Baishi methodically dispatched the incapacitated ninjas with precise strikes, ensuring none would pose a threat.
---
Moments later, Baishi dispelled the Wood Release technique. The lush forest vanished as suddenly as it had appeared, leaving behind a clearing littered with bodies.
Only the five Root operatives remained standing. Two of them stepped forward, each presenting Baishi with a bundle of scrolls and books.
"Sir, these are the items you requested."
Baishi took the materials, scanning them briefly before nodding in satisfaction.
"Good. Your mission is complete. Make your escape as planned."
With those words, he vanished without a trace.
