Chapter 5: Training
"Ahem," one of the elders coughed, catching the attention of everyone. He continued as he gazed down on Onochi, "I believe this has shown as all that the young master is a true genius… It is time for him to train," the elder turned to the patriarch and bowed.
Helpless, Tetsubo finally gave in with a sigh, "Fine. Although I would hate my son to step foot into the battlefield, or even train for such events, it is too much of a waste if we leave him like this." He turned to his one and only child and said, "Onochi, it's time for you to train. Get ready, I will personally teach you."
Onochi seemed indifferent, as he was gonna train on his own anyway, although it would significantly help him if someone with experience taught him.
Onochi bowed to his father, but was quickly stopped by his grandfather, "No, I'll personally teach him. You yourself still have much training to do, and besides, you're now the patriarch."
Everyone looked surprised, as the previous patriarch never trained anyone after he lost 3 of his only students, with one being his eldest son. Furthermore, he was the most powerful person in the clan. By no means is Motomaru a kage-level threat, but if the modern system was used, he would be an Elite Jonin.
"A-Are you sure, father?" Asked Tetsubo
With wistful eyes, he looked at his grandson, "Yeah, I'll personally teach the boy."
-1 day later-
A day passed, and Motomaru and Onochi could be seen standing on an empty training ground.
"First things first, you need to feel your chakra." Said Motomaru
With a blank face, Onochi asked, "And how do I do that?"
Motomaru shook his head and commanded, "Why do you look so disinterested? Anyway, sit down in a meditating position. Close your eyes and clear your mind of any thought. Feel your entire body, and you will see a spark, a light, or any indication, but you will feel it, your chakra.
Onochi followed his grandpa's instructions… After a few minutes of meditating, he finally felt it. It took him a few minutes as it was harder said than done. Clearing your mind was hard enough, but looking for something inside you was entirely different.
Onochi felt something inside him, it was cool and familiar to him. It was refreshing when he felt it, and the more he tried to move it around, the more tired he got. After a few minutes of him trying to control his chakra, he fell to the ground catching his breath.
With sweat all over his forehead, he asked, "Why is it so hard to control?"
Motomaru merely laughed and said, "Hahahahaha! That's because it's your first time feeling chakra, and you were already trying to control it. Chakra control takes time, or talent. Even I myself cannot perfect my chakra control."
As Onochi huffed and cooled himself, Motomaru took out a paper from his pocket and gave it to Onochi, "This here is a chakra induction paper, it will tell you your chakra nature. Simply put a little bit of your chakra into the paper and it will react to it. And the reactions will very,
Fire: The paper will burn
Water: the paper becomes damp
Wind: The paper will split
Earth: The paper will crumble
And lastly, Lightning: The paper will wrinkle."
"What's our clan's most popular element?" Asked Onochi
Motomaru smiled and answered, "It's wind. However, our clan mainly deals with poisons. Don't worry too much about your chakra nature, as you can train the other 4."
'Poisons? If I remember correctly, the Sand Village did have a lot of poisons, but they also used a lot of puppets.' Thought Onochi
"Say grandpa, do we also deal with puppets?"
Motomaru frowned and asked, "Puppets? Why would we deal with puppets? Puppets are for show, not fighting."
Onochi was shocked, but quickly composed himself. He remembered that the first puppet ninjas were created by a man named Monzaemon Chikamatsu. Although Onochi did not know when he was alive, he now knows that it was not in this era.
"It's nothing," Said Onochi
Onochi continued the conversation by asking, "So will I also be dealing with poisons?"
Motomaru smiled and said, "That's if you want." Motomaru got on one of his knees and met Onochi's eyes, "Listen child, poisons are dangerous and vile. Even the bravest of men will feel dread at the sight of the most lethal poison. A kid such as yourself, who has never even seen blood, shouldn't be forced into dealing with poisons."
Onochi scoffed and said, "Yeah, yeah. I don't really mind, and even if I can't stomach people dying, I'll still have to live with it. After all, people die in hundreds everyday just because of war."
Motomaru smiled bitterly, "That's right…"
After the two finished speaking, Onochi began pouring chakra to the paper, and the paper quickly split in two.
Now knowing what Onochi's affinity is, Motomaru got up and began picking up ninja tools for Onochi. He picked up kunais, shurikens, katanas, smoke bombs, and normal bombs.
"These are the things you will be training with. You need proficiency in all of these if you want to survive a battlefield." Said Motomaru
"Whaaaa… So many…."" Exclaimed Onochi,
Motomaru furrowed his brows and said, "These are the fundamentals, the necessities. You need to learn how to use katanas for your attack, Kunais for self defense and when you lose or break your katana. The shurikens and bombs are also for attacks, but more strategic."
Onochi sighed and said, "But can't we just use ninjutsus?"
*Pow*
Motomaru struck Onochis head and said, "You are not an Uzumaki! Chakra is precious energy that must not be used recklessly."
Onochi got serious and thought to himself, 'Ah, that's right… I have been using the anime as my sense of knowledge. I got used to the anime fighting style, where they would use ninjutsus left and right… That was dumb of me, I need to stop basing my knowledge and common sense from the anime, instead use my experience and learning.'
Motomaru scoffed and said,
"Now, let's begin."
