Naruto Card Shop System: Yu-Gi-Oh! in Another World

Chapter 2: Chapter 1: System Awakening

 Getting reincarnated and inheriting someone else's memories is a lot weirder than people give it credit for. It's usually summed up as a flash of pain and a few minutes of adjustments and suddenly everything is perfect. They don't mention the way your flesh feels wrong over your bones as you adjust the way you walk to fit your new height nor the way your skin itches when you look down at your new hands, how the muscle memories coil around your fingers as you grasp the bathroom sink while processing your new look. It takes me minutes to parse through my memories and what feels like an hour to separate the memories of my old life and my new one enough to get a read on my situation.

.

 In summary, I got fired from my job and hit by a truck before I was reborn in the Naruto universe on June 24th, 965 CE in the Land of Rain. When I was five, our small village was attacked and my father, a retired shinobi, sacrificed his life to save me, a merchant taking me and other war orphans to Konoha where I started working at a young age, my only inheritance being a few jutsu scrolls and a kunai. Over the next fifteen years I scraped together enough money to buy a small shop that had barely survived the Kyuubi attack in 983 CE. The year is now 986 CE, five years before the Uchiha Massacre and ten years before canon starts in 996 CE.

.

 I flex my hands, feeling their callouses, still reeling from the wrongness of it all. I wonder how Orochimaru was able to change bodies so many times when this body isn't even that different from my old one. Maybe that's why he was so insane. I chuckle mirthlessly as I inspect myself again, my fingers tracing the glorified collar that is the Millennium Necklace stuck around my neck. I sigh and explore the eerily familiar house. The top floor, the one I'm on, is fully furnished with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/dining room, meditation room, and small office, all in a traditional Japanese style of tatami mats and sliding doors with paper windows. The downstairs area is mostly taken up by a small shop and a small paper-making workshop. Each step fills me with memories of the renovations 'I' had to do when renovating my house, reminding me of the hidden alcove 'I' built for the few jutsus 'I' had to my name. I go back to the bedroom and push down a creaky floorboard by my futon before sliding it under the other boards into a hidden cavity to reveal the scrolls for some basic Paper Release jutsus, some chakra training exercises, the Body Flicker Technique, and a scroll that I don't remember being there.

.

{Fun Fact: It is surprisingly hard to pin down years in the Naruto timeline. The best version I've found has a two year error somewhere in it that delays the start of canon so I'm making the executive decision that the gap between the Uchiha Massacre and the start of canon is 5 years instead of whatever other calculations say. It's also because I like multiple of 5s}

.

 The scroll is ornate, red silk embroidered with golden thread, making images of the three gods I know by name. Slifer The Sky Dragon. Obelisk The Tormentor. The Winged Dragon of Ra (Pictures in the comments). Their eyes inlaid by gems of ruby, diamond, and yellow jade that gleam with callousness. My hands move like that of a puppet as I unroll the scroll, revealing the tarnished golden surface of the scroll where writing should be. I stare in bewilderment as the eye in the Millennium Necklace shines in the reflection of the scroll and a mist draws in from the edges of the gleaming fabric. The room seemed to get colder as my surroundings darken, the scroll's golden fabric turning black as the vortex sucks mist into it before letters start to appear on the black swirling background.
