Chapter 185: Chapter 185: The Slaughter of Suna’s Leaders
Traveling east, Kazuki and Karin hadn't located the precise location of Sunagakure. Unfortunately, it seemed they had lost their way! Luckily, Karin had a knack for navigation and quickly corrected Kazuki's course. They arrived in Sunagakure two days later!
The village, built of sand and clay structures, mainly had rounded or cylindrical buildings, giving the architecture a unique charm. This was Kazuki's first visit to Sunagakure, and he found himself fascinated by the distinctive architecture so different from Konoha's.
"Come on, Karin, let's find a place to have a drink!"
Dressed inconspicuously, the two strolled leisurely, their pace drawing only mild interest from observant villagers. After all, two strangers from a foreign land who seemed to be mere travelers—even having been lost at one point—hardly seemed like a threat. Even though they hailed from Konoha, a known rival, no one kept close watch on them.
They settled into Suna's tavern and spent the entire day there. Looking tipsy, the two eventually made their way to an inn.
"You really drank a lot!" Karin complained.
"It's good stuff! Just one more, Karin!"
"Enough! Let's save it for tomorrow!" Karin muttered, supporting Kazuki as they staggered along, appearing every bit the picture of a drunken couple: one a hopeless drinker, the other a caring, patient partner. Without incident, they rented a room at the inn, where Karin promptly tossed Kazuki onto the bed.
Just as she was about to help him remove his shoes, Kazuki sat up. "Hold off on that. We've got business to handle."
"You weren't even drunk, Kazuki-!"
"We've had our fun, and Konoha's likely sent Shinobi to Amegakure by now. I wouldn't want to keep the Hokage worrying without an update," he smirked.
"True. I almost forgot why we're here! We've been playing around, eating, and sightseeing all this time," Karin whispered cautiously, glancing around.
"No need to worry, no one's watching us."
Kazuki's training had instilled in him an innate sense of caution, enough to make sure they wouldn't be overheard.
"Are we going now?"
"Mm-hmm."
Without changing their clothes, the two disguised themselves with the Transformation Jutsu and set off. Earlier, Kazuki had gathered information from villagers' conversations and memorized the location of the Kazekage's Residence. In a few quick Body Flicker Technique, Kazuki and Karin arrived outside the building.
"Set up a barrier outside. I'll go in, finish the job, and be out in five minutes."
"Got it!"
Karin, having picked up numerous support techniques from her time with Kazuki, formed a massive barrier around the Kazekage's office using her powerful chakra. The barrier was strong enough to withstand attacks from even Kage-level opponents. Given Sunagakure's current strength, no one could enter or leave while the barrier was active.
Although the night was still young and many were awake, the sudden barrier quickly drew the attention of villagers and shinobi alike.
"What is that?"
"It's a barrier!"
"Why would there be a barrier around the Kazekage's office?"
"Something's wrong! It's an attack! Hurry and support the Kazekage!"
A crowd gathered around the barrier, some skilled shinobi attempting to break it, but their efforts proved futile against its power. An ordinary shinobi couldn't hope to break through a Kage-level barrier.
Inside, Kazuki had already begun his assault. Activating Susanoo, he unleashed an arrow that shattered the Kazekage's office in one powerful strike, killing most occupants instantly. Those few who survived the initial blast and managed to crawl out were quickly dispatched by Kazuki's Susanoo.
While Kazuki continued his rampage, a massive sand hand suddenly reached out, aiming to seize his Susanoo. Kazuki, unfazed, merely swatted it away, obliterating the hand effortlessly. His Mangekyo Sharingan-enhanced Susanoo was not to be trifled with—not even by a beast as powerful as Shukaku.
Kazuki's strike had put Gaara in mortal peril, forcing him to transform into the full form of Shukaku, a massive sand-colored tanuki. Gaining control, Shukaku spoke directly to Kazuki.
"Susanoo? Are you Uchiha?"
Kazuki ignored Shukaku's inquiry, instead locking eyes with the beast and subduing it with his Sharingan.
"It's over."
Kazuki joined Karin, ordering her, "Use your ability to check if there are any survivors."
Using her sensory abilities, Karin confirmed that a few remained hidden in the ruins. Kazuki swiftly dealt with them, eliminating the last of the Kazekage's supporters.
Outside the barrier, onlookers watched helplessly as Kazuki slaughtered their leaders, filled with rage and sorrow. But as Kazuki turned his gaze toward them, they recoiled, silenced by the sheer force of his power. Kazuki wasn't particularly inclined to kill them; though he could likely destroy all of Sunagakure, he saw no need.
"Let's go, Karin."
Once Kazuki and Karin departed, the barrier dissipated. From start to finish, the entire mission had taken only three minutes, yet in that brief time, Sunagakure had lost nearly all its leaders within the Kazekage's office.
The next day, Sunagakure went into full lockdown. The village was cordoned off by its remaining forces, and the remaining high-ranking ninjas scrambled to investigate the massacre and retrieve their fallen comrades' bodies.
Amid Sunagakure's grief and rage, Kazuki struck again that night, targeting the surviving leaders. Once more, that dreadful purple giant loomed, wielding unstoppable power. Even the village's most elite jonin fell to its arrows without resistance.
On the third day, only a few of Sunagakure's leaders remained, wary of appearing in public. Kazuki, having decimated Sunagakure's top warriors, had taken down Kazekage, Baki, and Gaara… leaving the village in tatters, with only the weakest remaining.
Having accomplished their mission, Kazuki and Karin shouldered their packs and set out for the Land of Earth.
