Chapter 70: Chapter 70: The Price of Blindness
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The black iron staff transformed from Enma clashed against the Kusanagi sword. Sparks flew as the Third Hokage and Orochimaru exchanged blows multiple times.
After leaping back, Hiruzen hurled several shuriken, quickly forming hand seals.
"Shadow Shuriken Jutsu!"
The shuriken multiplied mid-air and shot toward Orochimaru at high speed.
However, Hiruzen's hand seals didn't stop.
'Tandem Explosive Tags'
Orochimaru's eyes narrowed, attached to the shuriken were explosive tags.
He quickly formed hand seals as well and slammed his palms onto the ground.
"Summoning Jutsu: Rashomon!"
Boom!!
The massive explosion shook the underground laboratory violently. Watching the fight unfold, Uchiha Yun frowned.
He turned to Jia and said, "Use Wood Release to protect them. If this place collapses, there'll be casualties."
Jia nodded and made hand seals.
"Wood Release: Wood Pillar!"
A defensive dome made of massive wooden pillars enveloped the Sixth Squad of ANBU. Then Jia glanced at Yun and asked, "Those were high-level jutsu, looks like the Third Hokage is going all out."
Yun scoffed, "In this terrain, using a jutsu like Tandem Explosive Tags... what do you think his real intention is? Do you think the so-called Professor of Ninjutsu doesn't know better?"
Reminded by Yun, Jia gave a bitter smile. "So the Third still couldn't harden his heart…"
Yun replied, "He's just a withering old tree now. Weak and indecisive... he's no longer the ninja hero he once was."
Stones fell as the ceiling began to collapse. Hiruzen looked at his student and murmured, "Orochimaru…"
Beside him, Enma frowned. "Hiruzen, are you really going to let him go? This might be your last chance!"
Hiruzen didn't respond and simply waited for the collapse.
The explosive tag he had slipped into the snake's mouth earlier would detonate the next time Orochimaru used Summoning.
'One final warning. I hope you learn from it.'
Boom!!!
The underground lab collapsed.
From the ruins, giant wooden structures arched upward, lifting away the debris.
Except for two ANBU from Squad Six who were killed in the explosion, leaving no remains, the rest survived unharmed. On the other side, the two shinobi brought by the Third were thrown clear by Enma.
As for Orochimaru, he had vanished.
The Third stood in the direction of pursuit and solemnly said, "List Orochimaru as an S-class missing-nin…"
Jia looked around at his teammates. Squad Six had lost two people, completely obliterated.
And for that, all they got was a "missing-nin" label?
Yun patted Jia's shoulder and asked, "As the Fourth Hokage's direct ANBU unit, we only follow the Fourth's orders, right?"
Jia hesitated, then nodded. "That's true, but…"
"Then there's no problem!"
As Yun spoke, his Mangekyō Sharingan began to rotate.
"As one of the Sannin, that guy is slippery. So I'm not even sure if this attack can kill him. Most likely… it won't."
"But if a new member of Squad Six just sits idly by, wouldn't that dishonor the fallen comrades?"
"And since the place already collapsed, this open ground is perfect, no risk of you guys getting buried."
Buzz!!!
"Susanoo!"
As the words fell, blue chakra materialized and lifted Yun into the air.
A massive half-bodied giant appeared, holding a bow made of pure blue chakra. It aimed in the same direction Hiruzen had just been facing.
"Uchiha Yun!!"
Standing on the forehead of the giant, Yun looked at Hiruzen. "Third Hokage, maybe you can block this attack aimed at the enemy. Want to try?"
All the ANBU turned toward Hiruzen.
If he tried to stop it, it would further erode what little trust remained in him, especially after Danzo's death.
He wouldn't dare.
An aging man like him wouldn't risk being nailed to the pillar of shame in his final years.
The blue chakra arrow formed fully.
Far away, Orochimaru, who had already begun to retreat, suddenly shivered.
He turned and saw the massive blue figure in the distance, bow drawn. That chilling, overwhelming chakra froze him in place.
He quickly formed hand seals:
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Five Orochimaru clones scattered. The real body used Earth Release to burrow underground.
'Huh? Mangekyō ability?'
In Orochimaru's perception, the giant chakra arrow completely ignored all his clones and locked onto his real body underground, unaffected by the decoys.
Whoosh!
The blue arrow shot forth, tearing through countless trees.
BOOM!!!
The forest was flattened as if a typhoon had swept through it.
The blue giant vanished, and Yun returned to the ground, inspecting the aftermath.
A deep crater lay where the arrow had struck.
But...
He had a feeling Orochimaru wasn't dead.
For someone like him, a mad scientist and a cockroach, his survival skills were top-tier in the ninja world.
"Is he dead?" Jia asked.
Yun shook his head. "No idea. But most likely not. Even if he didn't run, killing him isn't easy."
Jia let out a wry smile. "As expected of one of the Legendary Sannin. To survive that kind of attack…"
Then he turned to Yun again. "But you're even more surprising, wielding such power at your age."
"Ugh…"
Yun suddenly groaned and clutched his eyes. A drop of blood leaked through his fingers.
Splatter!
It hit the ground and shattered like glass.
Seeing this, Jia glanced uneasily at the Third and whispered, "I'll get you to the village's medical unit right away."
He quickly carried Yun on his back and signaled Squad Six to retreat.
No one bid farewell to the Third Hokage.
In their hearts, they were disappointed, feeling like mourning rabbits when the fox dies.
And this resentment would only grow once they returned to the village.
Today's events might be hidden from the civilians…
But within the ANBU under the Third and Fourth Hokage, word would spread.
"Just now, that blue giant, was it a power exclusive to the Uchiha's Sharingan?"
Lying weakly on Jia's back, Yun quietly replied: "You guessed right. The Mangekyō Sharingan comes with a heavy price."
"Susanoo is its ultimate power. But in return, the user gradually loses their eyesight… until…"
Before he could finish, Jia stopped abruptly. The rest of Squad Six also halted.
Jia turned, hesitating, and asked, "Until you go blind?"
Weakly, Yun nodded. "Overwhelming power must come with an irreversible price. Even your Wood Release, wasn't it born through the sacrifice of countless failed experiments?"
