Chapter 27: Chapter 27: How Much Pocket Money Does Shikamaru Have?
Ichiraku Auntie was moved when Naruto readily agreed to help.
She thought to herself, I must give him a few more ramen vouchers after this is all over.
"Thank you so much, you two."
"Hehe… Auntie Ichiraku, Brother Ayame, don't worry. I've got your back!"
Naruto's unwavering confidence in her indirectly bolstered Auntie Ichiraku's determination.
"Alright, tonight I'll research how to improve the elasticity of ramen noodles and figure out a way to extend their shelf life before tomorrow's finals."
"I'll help you, Mother," Ayame added.
At this moment, Auntie Ichiraku turned to Naruto with an apologetic expression. "Naruto, we might have to close Ichiraku Ramen for half a day tomorrow."
Hearing this, Naruto could only nod helplessly.
After bidding farewell to the Ichiraku family, Naruto headed back with Sasuke.
It was already past 9 p.m. in Konoha. The streets were nearly empty, making the sight of a blonde-haired boy walking alongside a twin-tailed girl particularly striking.
"So… you didn't finalize your deal with Ichiraku?" Sasuke asked, her tone curious.
Naruto shook his head. "No, thanks to the sudden appearance of Hongle. It seems we'll have to wait until after tomorrow's finals to discuss it further."
"Oh." Sasuke simply acknowledged the answer, lowering her head as they neared the intersection.
"It's so dark out—aren't you scared of ghosts walking home alone?" Naruto teased with a sly grin.
"Hmph, as if I'd be scared of something like that," Sasuke huffed, her lips pursed in defiance.
"Want me to walk you home?"
"No need. I can handle myself."
Her pride and stubbornness wouldn't allow her to let Naruto escort her back to the Uchiha compound.
However, after taking a few steps forward, she paused.
"What's wrong? Afraid now?" Naruto joked, thinking Sasuke might have had second thoughts.
"Naruto… don't forget the promise you made to me."
Naruto pondered for a moment and replied, "Hmm… if you're in a hurry, you can come find me at my place at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow. We can train together."
Sasuke resumed walking without giving an immediate response. "I'll think about it."
"See you."
Naruto had other matters to deal with tonight. Seeing Sasuke neither accept nor reject his offer, he understood her hesitation.
For a ninja, personal training methods and techniques were highly guarded secrets. They represented one's trump cards in battle. Naruto and Sasuke's current relationship was more of a partnership than one of mutual trust.
Furthermore, the destruction of the Uchiha clan remained Sasuke's emotional scar. It was natural for her to avoid forming relationships that extended beyond her quest for revenge.
Taking all this into account, Naruto said no more and turned toward his home.
The cool street corner became a backdrop as the boy and girl walked further apart, heading in opposite directions.
While Sasuke pondered how to handle her relationship with Naruto, Naruto's mind was preoccupied with how to use Hongle to execute his plan.
A plan to avoid Konoha's higher-ups detecting his secret maneuvers.
Indeed, Hongle's unexpected arrival had disrupted his original strategy to some extent.
But Naruto wasn't angry—in fact, he felt a sense of excitement.
Why?
Because in the world of Naruto, ingredients like MSG, chicken essence, and spice blends didn't exist. With his system, he could acquire these at a minimal cost.
Although he had initially dismissed the idea of becoming Konoha's official food supplier, running a small barbecue stand still posed significant risks.
As Konoha's jinchūriki, Naruto was constantly monitored by the village's upper echelon.
If the ANBU or Root division noticed anything suspicious, they'd undoubtedly report it to the Third Hokage or Danzo.
And if the higher-ups took an interest in this matter, they could send a specialist from the Yamanaka Clan to probe the memories of Hongle and others. Naruto's secret would be exposed in an instant.
At that point, he'd have no choice but to confront Konoha directly.
But that wasn't all.
He himself was likely to be completely imprisoned or have his will altered by Danzo using Shisui's Sharingan ability.
Taking all these factors into account, Naruto decided to abandon his plan of overwhelming Hong Le with various seasonings tonight. Instead, he watched Hong Le easily defeat Aunt Ichiraku and prepared to take the long game—recruiting Hong Le while making everything seem more logical and natural.
In fact, unless during wartime, civilians were free to enter and leave Konoha.
Of course, in the original work, the reason why ninjas rarely left the village was entirely due to the sensitive information they possessed as part of the Hidden Villages.
This kind of control, especially for chunin and jonin, was particularly strict.
A prime example would be the Akatsuki members being relentlessly hunted by the ANBU of the Five Great Nations.
However, a civilian like Hong Le leaving the village likely wouldn't catch the attention of Konoha's intelligence division.
After all, without sufficient strength, one couldn't come into contact with any of the village's secrets.
For the sake of his culinary career, Hong Le had supposedly left the Land of Fire to travel through famous mountains and rivers, spending years apprenticing under renowned masters to learn the latest culinary techniques, even bringing back unique and mysterious minerals...
After learning about Hong Le's background, Naruto couldn't help but exclaim internally, "Just when I was dozing off, someone delivers me a pillow!"
Naruto knew that if his plan succeeded, he could perfectly divert the attention of Konoha's upper echelons in the short term.
Organizing his thoughts as he walked, he found himself back at his front door without realizing it.
Pushing open the door, Naruto instinctively called out, "I'm back."
The house was silent, devoid of any signs of life.
Due to his previously harsh living conditions, there wasn't even leftover food in the house, to the point where even the rats had starved to death.
Naruto chuckled bitterly and thought, "I really don't enjoy this kind of loneliness after all."
Taking off his shoes, he headed for the bathroom.
After a quick wash, Naruto, with his damp hair, walked into his bedroom.
"How odd. Is it because today's the day the Third Hokage sent my allowance that the ANBU and Root agents on surveillance are taking the day off?"
Closing his eyes to carefully sense his surroundings, he confirmed that no one was watching him.
Although he couldn't figure out why, Naruto had too much to handle tonight and decided not to dwell on it. He sat cross-legged and formed a hand seal to appear as if he were focusing on refining chakra.
In reality, he wasn't doing that at all. Naruto's attention was fully focused on the system interface in his mind.

[Qian Ruyi Search Function]
Seeing that his Shock Value had surpassed his Negative Value, Naruto smiled wryly.
"So this is the power of walking around in a mask on the streets, huh?"
Opening the Qian Ruyi Search function, Naruto hesitated for a moment before typing: Master-Level Ramen Skills, Master-Level Barbecue Skills.
After hitting "Search," he was surprised to find results.
However, his face darkened as he looked at the exchange prices.
[Master-Level Ramen Skills]: Requires 2,000 Ryo to exchange.
[Master-Level Barbecue Skills]: Requires 3,500 Ryo to exchange.
Glancing at his system balance of only 5,910 Ryo, Naruto muttered, "If it weren't for the 1,000 Ryo allowance from the sunny Third Hokage today, I wouldn't even have enough to exchange for these skills!"
Though reluctant, Naruto didn't hesitate long before confirming the purchase.
---
[Ding! Would you like to spend 5,500 Ryo to exchange for Master-Level Ramen Skills and Master-Level Barbecue Skills?]
"Yes."
---
[Ding! Exchange successful. Skill infusion countdown: 3... 2... 1!]
As the countdown ended, waves of newfound memories and insights poured into Naruto's mind.
Within just three minutes, Naruto opened his eyes with a smile on his face.
"With these two skills, earning Ryo should be a piece of cake!"
However, when he looked back at his balance, his smile faded.
"Only 410 Ryo left?"
This amount was barely enough to cover his daily expenses.
"I need to figure out a way to earn more money."
Naruto furrowed his brows in thought.
Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he eagerly typed into the search bar: Master-Level Chess Skills.
He didn't have much hope since the last two exchanges required Ryo, but to his surprise, a result appeared.
[Master-Level Chess Skills] (includes insights from all chess games across past and present lives): Requires 1,000 Shock Value to exchange.
"Exchange!" Naruto declared immediately.
---
[Ding! Exchange successful. Skill infusion countdown: 3... 2... 1.]
A moment later, Naruto opened his eyes again, now radiating the wisdom of a grand strategist.
Next, he searched for Fire Shadow Shogi.
[Fire Shadow Shogi] (portable, foldable chessboard): Requires 300 Ryo to exchange.
Naruto glanced at his balance, then back at the exchange price, and grumbled, "System, you know I'm low on Ryo, yet every useful tool requires it!"
---
[Ding! Low-tier daily items are randomly assigned payment types. Higher-tier ninja items are more likely to include multi-payment options.]
"Fine," Naruto sighed. He recalled how the True Rinnegan he once searched for had indeed required a combination of payments.
---
[Ding! Would you like to spend 300 Ryo to exchange for Fire Shadow Shogi?]
"Yes, exchange."
---
[Ding! Exchange successful. The item has been placed in your system space. Please retrieve it at your convenience.]
Naruto retrieved the Fire Shadow Shogi, unfolded the lightweight plastic chessboard, and began studying it.
Now equipped with Master-Level Shogi Skills, it took him only half an hour to devise over a dozen unique endgame setups.
Satisfied, Naruto folded the board and stored it in his canvas bag.
"Shikamaru… I hear your family's pretty well-off."
Lying down, Naruto's lips curled into a sunny smile.
"I wonder, at your age, how much pocket money—or rather, chess skill—you've got?"
