Chapter 5: First Day
In a hall full of young stars, Spade was feeling quite spent as he was spending his soul energy to gauge just who amongst these Stars was trustworthy and who wasn't and there wouldn't have been a better time for that than now when they were still not used to being amongst people with great senses.
The entire Hall was filled with the voices of all the young people who were quite excited to meet people with special abilities like themselves many friendships were being formed and mixed amongst them were some predators looking for prey.
But it all quited down once the instructors they were all 2-Stars and amongst them was also a 3-Star. It was the first time Spade had laid eyes upon a 3-Star he was completely different from the other instructors, a normal person might not tell but there was something different about a 3-Star.
Taking the stage the head instructor gave a welcome speech and some words on how dangerous life would be for those who chose to venture outside the barrier, how we would not remain the same and much more.
Finally the hours long opening ceremony ended and we were led to our classes. The classes were basically on how to survive in wilderness, combat, knowledge about outside from monsters to terrains to climate and everything in between. The division of classes was done on the basis of elements but there were still many classes exclusively for those who chose not to disclose their elements.
"Class 17" It was the class Spade was designated to but for some reason the grey haired was also in the same class. Why does it have to be like it, there were so many classes he could've gone anywhere.
Spade silently entered the classroom because his mask was still making others uncomfortable around him and chose a secluded seat.
'No... Why are you coming here' the grey haired guy was came right next to Spade and took the seat and gave a polite smile to Spade. What is he, does he wish to build friendship with me or has ulterior motives due to whatever counter he possess to my ability I can't see through him.
'Calm, be calm' As Spade was trying to calm himself the instructor entered the class it was a female in her late 20s with quite a small physique but striking eyes which were like that of a beast.
"Good morning everyone, I'm Raisa and I'll be your main instructor for the entire year you spend at the Academy."
The instructor received quite the gazes especially from male students, but they all stopped themselves when they looked at her piercing eyes, all except for one.
'This idiot... ' the grey haired idiot was still eyeing Ms. Raisa with bright eyes like admiring a work of art, noticing his gaze Ms. Raisa asked "What's the matter, is there something on my face."
To which he answered without a hint of hesitation "It's nothing, I was just admiring your beauty."
The whole class looked at him with a look of disbelief but Ms. Raisa remained calm and said "Out of the class now, and run around the field till I tell you to stop."
Spade was expecting for the grey haired guy to lose a bit of his composure but he just got of his desk and without a word went outside.
After that nothing that ridiculous happened and the class went on smoothly but the aftereffects were not gonna be erased for quite a while, but somehow that idiot had turned into a romantic hero and many girls were going crazy over it.
The idiot already had the looks and after that incident his popularity has soared to new heights and his popularity was not limited to girls only he also showed great social skills to interact with other guys and became the hot topic of the Academy.
But today was the day when the real rankings will be decided on the basis of which someone will be considered superior or inferior for the rest of the year. Even the most popular ones become nobody after a getting a low rank in combat, so the only goal is to not get too low a rank.
The fights were designed by the instructors on the basis of data they have and their personal judgement on the capabilities of a student to keep the fights as fair as possible and gauge the extent of every student's capabilities.
"Next fight, Spade vs Karl"
Each candidate was allowed to chose a weapon of their choice and the opponent can't see what the other person has picked.
Spade had many ideas on his ideal weapon but for now he went with the most basic option afterall it was just basic combat training.
Entering the arena Spade saw his opponet it was a tall, muscular man with thick arms and bigs hands which seemed capable of crushing and his weapon of choice was a Warhammer.
Spade and Karl faced off in the training arena, their eyes locked in a fierce stare. The air was thick with tension as they circled each other, sizing each other up. Karl, his warhammer at the ready, sneered at Spade.
"You think you can take me down with that little sword?" Karl taunted. "I'll show you what real power looks like."
Spade didn't flinch, his expression unreadable. He gripped his sword tightly, his eyes never leaving Karl's. The silence between them was palpable, punctuated only by the sound of their heavy breathing.
The two combatants continued to circle each other, their feet scraping against the dry earth. Spade detected the slightest shift in Karl's weight and pounced, his sword flashing in the sunlight.
Karl swung his warhammer in a wide arc, anticipating Spade's attack. The two weapons clashed, the impact sending shockwaves through the air. The sound of steel on steel echoed through the arena, a ringing that seemed to go on forever.
Spade danced back, his sword weaving intricate patterns. Karl charged forward, his warhammer swinging in powerful blows. The two combatants exchanged strikes, their movements lightning-fast.
Karl landed a crushing blow on Spade's shoulder, but Spade barely flinched. He countered with a swift kick to Karl's stomach, but Karl absorbed the impact, his massive frame unwavering.
"You're fast, I'll give you that," Karl said, his voice dripping with disdain. "But you're no match for my strength."
Spade didn't respond, his face set in a determined grimace. He swung his sword in a vicious arc, forcing Karl to stumble back.
The fight continued, the two combatants trading blows. Karl seemed to sense the earth beneath him, using it to fuel his strength. The ground itself seemed to respond to his presence, as if it were alive and aiding him in the battle.
As the fight wore on, both combatants began to tire. Spade's sword arm ached, while Karl's warhammer swings grew slower. Sweat dripped from their brows, and their breathing grew heavier.
Karl landed a series of crushing blows, but Spade refused to back down. He countered with a swift kick to Karl's chest, but Karl absorbed the impact, his massive frame unwavering.
The two combatants clashed, their movements becoming more desperate. Karl's warhammer sliced through the air, narrowly missing Spade's throat. Spade swung his sword in a wild arc, forcing Karl to stumble back.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, their instructor called out, "Halt!"
Spade and Karl froze, their chests heaving with exertion. They bowed to each other, a sign of respect and acknowledgement of a fight well fought.
Getting out of the arena Spade relaxed, the pride which had been built up in his mind of his newfound strength took a huge hit from this fight. He learned that there were many special ones like him and even more special than him.
After a couple of hours the results were announced, everyone's eyes were on the leaderboards and among them the one who had achieved the highest rank was the grey haired idiot and his name was Kurt, Karl was ranked 87th and Spade was ranked 91st.
It was a considerably high rank, considering how many candidates there were just being in top100 puts one in the list of the best of the best. But that guy he is no idiot, he is immune to my twilight sense, was kicked out of class on the first day and now is the highest ranked individual in combat amongst all students at the Academy. He is no normal individual, I better deal with him with extreme caution in the future.
