Chapter Fourteen: Old lady at the hut

With that the owl raises it's head and flew into the sky.

PRESENTLY

Confusion laced on Ovie's face. I knew he would be wondering, why a huge owl would be talking to me. It felt somehow confusing to him.

A part of me knew that this forest wasn't ordinary. This forest could be filled with magical things. Maybe, that's why we need to leave this forest as fast as we could.

"It's hot, don't you think we should have a little rest" Ovie suggested, jolting me out of my thoughts.

"I don't think so, besides it's not necessary" I said taking a look around in case of any mysterious animals.

"Come on, I'm tired and the sun seems pretty rough" Ovie muttered giving a sad- baby face that melted my heart.

I sighed.

"Okay" I said as I walked over to a tree and sat down.

Ovie came to me and sat down close to me. He put his hands on my shoulders while resting his head on mine. I felt safe when closer to him. I felt a lot complete.

"I miss my mom" Ovie spoke out.

"I miss my Grandma" I said,a drop of year forming at the corner of my left eye.

"Don't worry,we will get to your grandmother soon" Ovie said as a word of encouragement.

It wasn't long when I started feeling hunger pangs dealing with me. I had not actually eaten since yesterday. I stood up, leaving Ovie's comfort. Looking straight ahead, were only a few miles from the road.

Though the bus wasn't there. Maybe it was carried away during the evening of yesterday.

"I'm feeling hungry" I muttered weakly to Ovie.

I had never been beaten with hunger like this before.

"Yeah, me too" Ovie answered back getting up from where he sat.

"Let's hit the road. Anyways, the bus is no longer on the road" I said.

Ovie came to me and put his hand over my shoulders.

"Okay, let's keep going" Ovie said.

With that decided,we started walking, taking careful steps as we kept silent. Suddenly, just as we were about getting out of the woods, I sensed some movements in the nearby bushes. I cautiously tapped Ovie. Ovie turned around only to see me standing a few feet away from him.

"What is it Naagin?" Ovie asked.

"Ovie there's something in the bushes" I said, taking some steps back.

Suddenly,a bear 🐻 walked majestically out of the bushes. Strange energy radiated all over the bear. The strong energy that I felt round the bear gave me an idea that the bear wasn't ordinary. Ovie held my hand as he stood in front of me,in a stance of protecting me from the bear.

The bear had red glowing eyes. It's feet were crystal blue with black strokes on it. It's body was brown in colour.

The bear gave a loud growl that shook the ground underneath. I didn't wait for the bear to come closer,so I held Ovie's hand and took off into the forest. The bear , seeing me and Ovie running back into the forest, pursued us.

As I ran with Ovie by my side, I could still see the fear and worry written on his face.

After running for what seems like eternity, Ovie hit his leg against a stone and fell.

"Get up!" I said, dragging him up to his feet.

"Looks like we lost it" Ovie said when he got up.

I looked around in search for the bear, but I couldn't find it. Though my eyes couldn't find it, my senses could feel the bear's energy around.

Just as expected, the bear jumped out from a corner, revealing it's huge size. It advanced slowly towards both me and Ovie. We didn't wait for the bear to come close,we took off again, running deeper into the woods.

We came across a two paths, one to the left while the other one to the right. Both, I and Ovie looked back only to see the bear running with vigour towards us.

"We got to split up" I told Ovie.

"What? We can't do that" Ovie exclaimed at my idea.

"We got to and besides I will come and find you later" I said.

"I won't allow it" Ovie protested.

"Go, it's for our own good" I said trying to shove him into the path at the right.

Ovie sighed.

"Okay, I will agree to it, but please be careful"Ovie said with a faint smile.

He kissed me and ran with all the strength he had, running off into the path at the right. The bear was already so close to me, so I took off running into the path at the left.

The bear got to the two path, staring confused as which path he should take. Without wasting a second, the bear ran into the path at the left to which I had ran into. Pursuing me relentless without giving up.

I came across a wide expanse of field covered with grain crops. The grain field had a golden color under the sun. I moved right into the field of grain, trying to blend with the grain crops. I bent down in order to hide from the bear. The mysterious bear walked right into the grain field, sniffing the air. Looked like it had caught my scent during when both I and Ovie were running.

I changed into my snake form (my full snake form). I crawled in the midst of the grain, trying to find a way to attack the bear. What I didn't know was that as I crawled, I left trails to which the bear followed. The bear caught me by the neck, unexpectedly. It raised me up, squeezing my neck. It gave a loud growl as I struggled to get out of it's grip.

After about Eight minutes of struggling and attacking, I got out of it's grip but not without getting a scar. Once I got out of its grip it was my turn to attack. I wound my body around the bear. Tightening my grip on the bear, my aim was to break it's bones. Once I felt the bear was weak, I raised my large head and took out the bear's head.

After swallowing the bear, full and raw, I crawled back into the woods still in my snake. Though I was actually hungry, so I used the bear as my breakfast. Leaving the field of grain 🌾 crops, I crawled out of the path taking the path at the right. I crawled with speed around trees and bushes in search of Ovie.

For over more than an hour, I searched all over the woods but couldn't find Ovie. I was heart broken and tired. It was already noon and still haven't found Ovie. I layed on the ground somehow weak.

"Naagin, long time no see" a familiar voice made me to raise my head.

I looked up to see the Black Cobra snake staring at me with smiles.

"Looks like you are using your powers. That's interesting" it said crawling closer to my large body.

"Where is Ovie?" I snapped at the snake angrily.

"Hey! Hey! Calm down. I'm not with Ovie. Ovie is with the old lady that lives in the hut on top of a small hill" the black Cobra snake said with all sincerity.

I didn't want to trust him but I had to.

"The same old lady the owl was talking about?" I asked to which the snake nodded.

"I can't believe that HIJIRAR fulfilled his promise" the snake said.

"Who is HIJIRAR?" I asked.

A smile played on the cobra's face when I asked the question.

"There are many things you don't know Naagin. You have so many questions that are left unanswered. You do not know where you are, you do not know much about Umuguor community or anything other things. You need answers Naagin and you can only get them when you meet with the old lady" the black Cobra snake said.

I sighed.

"Yes, you are right. There are a lot of things I don't know and I need answers" I admitted.

"The old lady is up there at the hill" the snake said.

I looked at the direction at which the snake was looking at. To my surprise, the hut stood at a hill that was a few miles away from me. A smile played on my lips. But when I turned my head to look at the black Cobra snake,it wasn't there again,it had disappeared.

I knew there was a lot of things I need to know and it was only the old lady that had answers to my questions. I had decided to accept my destiny to be the chosen one of Umuguor community nd to save my people.

I transformed into my human form and headed for the small hill. A smile was on my face as I walked all the way to the hut.
