Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength

Chapter 944: Discussion Between Two 'People

The population of Black Mountain Town has increased compared to a few months ago.

Ronald walked through the town with Il and Costate, clearly feeling the thriving environment. Just during their short walk, they encountered three people trying to sell them things.

It's evident that Dominic is very attentive to the management of Black Mountain Town.

Additionally, with the policy support from Gide.

In the foreseeable future, Black Mountain will inevitably become a city of considerable influence.

Although the situation looks quite good.

Ronald thought that Mr. Dominic probably didn't want to see him, and even more so not Il who was with him.

So after gathering some information at the Black Mountain Town Investigation Bureau, he headed directly to the train station without visiting this manager.

"..."

"Boss, are we really not going to visit Dominic?"

It wasn't until they were waiting for the train on the platform, disguised as a human, that Il couldn't help but ask:

"Actually, I do have some good stuff I could sell in human society."

"Just giving up the business opportunity like this, isn't it a bit of a waste?"

Without even turning his head, Ronald rejected Il's suggestion:

"You don't need to do that, Kurpis isn't so poor that villagers need to do business."

Il's face showed no sign of displeasure, and he wholeheartedly clapped in agreement with Ronald's words:

"Okay, okay, all according to the boss!"

"..."

Woo woo woo——

It wasn't long before a train came into Black Mountain Station from the direction of Yizi Forest. There were very few passengers coming to Black Mountain Town from that direction, roughly thirty-some people got off the train, among whom were refugees fleeing from Enclosed Road.

But as Ronald observed.

These people mostly dressed finely, and not one of them looked like impoverished yellow-skinned folks, clearly showing what kind of characters exactly fled from Enclosed Road.

Moreover, after these people got off the train, someone immediately noticed Ronald waiting with two girls, and soon some were bold enough to come up and talk because of Costate and Il's beauty.

"Sir, I am..."

"I'm not interested in who you are!" Ronald didn't want to engage with such people, "Now I need to get on the train, please step aside."

With that said, Ronald led the two girls behind him around the awkward-looking man and directly boarded the train.

The tickets from Black Mountain to Barringwich didn't have any seat numbers.

When the three of them found a spot and casually sat down in the empty carriage, only then did Il ask with interest:

"Boss, that person seemed to want to court me, didn't he?"

"Speaking of which, I quite like the human trait of being in heat all year round, when I was a plant before, I could only mate once a day, it always felt incredibly inefficient!"

Ronald shot over a dangerous look:

"Il, if you don't want me to sew your mouth shut, you'd better watch how you speak from now on."

"!"

Il's expression changed instantly, realizing that he had angered Ronald.

Immediately apologizing and promising never to make such a mistake again, they waited until the train departed from Black Mountain Town, only then did Il start to complain slightly:

"Boss, I understand your concerns as a human, and I'm willing to cooperate with you on this. But you know how troublesome and difficult this learning is, can't you cut me some slack?"

Hearing this, Ronald felt that Il was about to say something astonishing again, so he immediately became vigilant:

"Just say what you have to say, no need for all this useless preamble."

Only then did Il flash a flattering smile, bending over to gently massage Ronald's knees:

"In the past when I extracted human memories in Yizi Forest, I always focused on gathering intelligence, not paying much attention to customs and social interactions. When we reach Barringwich, can't we adopt a more convenient method, like finding a death row person, then let me bite..."

"Il, think clearly about what you're saying."

"..."

Just when Il was about to finish speaking, Ronald interjected.

Thus, Il's potentially one-time effective proposal once again met a cold reality and was stillborn.

However, even so, Il couldn't contain his restlessness.

After night fell and all passengers on the train rested, he lightly crawled onto Ronald's lap, whispering in a voice only they could hear:

"Boss, I have another question."

While he would never allow Il to understand humans through cannibalistic means, Ronald was very supportive of gaining understanding through questions and answers.

So without any impatience, Ronald gently nodded:

"Go ahead and ask."

"Why are we taking a train to Barringwich?" Il finally continued to ask, "Using your flying spell would be faster and more convenient than taking the train, I don't quite understand."

Il's question was indeed a good one.

Ronald carefully organized his words before explaining to Il:

"Il, if someone living on the first floor wants to go out, in fact, jumping straight out the window is quicker, but people usually choose to leave through the door. Do you understand this example?"

"..."

Clearly, Il fell into thought because of Ronald's explanation.

And in this process, a normally disinterested Costate suddenly took an interest, starting to explain her own understanding to Il.

"Il, this is one of the keys to why humans can be human."

"If you want to successfully integrate into human society, you must understand how to make choices about similar issues. This is the baseline or essential requirement for becoming 'human'!"

After Costate finished her explanation, Ronald could clearly feel Il, who was lying on him, shivered slightly.

Then Il immediately got off him, turning to Costate:

"Costate, usually you seem dazed, but in this regard, you understand quite well! Can you tell me more?"

Costate always regarded Il as Ronald's property.

So when this guy asked, she very willingly nodded:

"Of course, I'm always working hard in this direction."

"For example, when interacting with some particularly forward humans, you must maintain a calm demeanor, or you'll easily get caught in their pace, thereby losing the initiative in many matters..."

Just like that, Costate and Il began a subtle but reasonable conversation.

These two non-human beings were very interested in the topic of how to become human. Aside from the potential shock it would cause if an outsider heard this conversation, both parties were in quite a good mood.

"..."

Ronald sat on the train, truly feeling that he, as a human, could not get a word in edgewise.

So before long, he, like the other passengers around him, leaned back in his seat and drifted off to sleep.
