Chapter 25: Confession
Feng Bin and He Huijuan both drank heavily on the night of the class reunion. They used to be deskmates back in high school, and their friendship was much closer than that of regular classmates. Unfortunately, their relationship ended at the level of best friends. He Huijuan used to be incredibly attractive in high school, and she had many people chasing after her.
Feng Bin had been a quiet and introverted guy since he was a child, so despite secretly being in love with He Huijuan, he never had the confidence to tell her. Feng Bin got admitted to a top university with great scores after graduating from high school, but He Huijuan’s academics were poor, and she married soon after.
This was the second time the two met after graduation, but the goddess of high school was already married.
He Huijuan told Feng Bin that her married life is not happy because of her husband; she has not had sex for a long time. Feng Bin could see that He Huijuan was a little drunk; otherwise, she would not have said these things to him.
And what about Feng Bin’s married life?
Following graduation, Feng Bin was unable to find work; he desired to establish a firm despite having no funds, and he had brilliant ideas but no method to implement them. During that time, he met his current wife, Hannah, who is five years older than him.
Hannah was born in a rural location and had suffered greatly. Hannah moved to the city when she was eighteen years old, and during her first two years there, she did everything: she worked as a server, handed out flyers, and worked as a female worker in a textile factory. Her longest job was at a textile plant, but she was fired after a drunken incident.
The workshop director took advantage of Hannah’s drunkenness and forced a relationship with her after drinking with her in the factory. When Hannah threatened to call the cops, the workshop director offered her tens of thousands of yuan to settle the matter.
Hannah didn’t cry or make trouble; she took the money.
Hannah accepted the money. She wished she could cry, but the tears refused to flow out. She didn’t know when she’d be able to save that much money as a textile worker, but she could make so much money as long as she could lie on the bed and cling her feet together. She sent some of the money home and took the rest with her.
To be honest, Hannah wasn’t particularly attractive, but she was young, so she relied on this way of earning a living. Hannah bought a house in the city in a matter of years, but people who knew her well were aware of her source of money.
Like the saying on the Internet goes, Hannah had done enough, and her age was not young anymore, so she planned on finding an honest person to marry and settle down with.
Feng Bin was an honest person.
Feng Bin had never expected money to fall from the sky. Hannah would write Feng Bin’s name on the property and offer Feng Bin 200,000 RMB as start-up funding for his business if he committed to marry her. Feng Bin had just graduated; how could he resist such temptation and perplexity? He was served what every man desired: a home, a woman, and a career. Who else could possibly have these items right after graduation? And now Feng Bin had an opportunity that others envied.
So Feng Bin seized this opportunity and agreed to marry Hannah.
But the law of this world was that there are no free lunches.
There was naturally a reason behind Hannah’s generosity, but it wasn’t soon after Feng Bin found out the true reason. It turned out that his wife’s money comes from this, but what could he do? His company was just established, and he could finally pursue his dream.
His love life was not smooth. Feng Bin devoted himself to his career; if love was over, at least he still had a career. Since his start-up fund was given by his wife, Hannah, she signed a contract with Feng Bin that stated that if the company was on track, Hannah would account for 70% and Feng Bin himself would account for 30%.
Hannah knew that all men in the world were the same, and if he became rich, Feng Bin would not hesitate to leave her for someone else. So Hannah and Feng Bin signed an agreement that if Feng Bin cheated on her, he would have to leave the house clean and walk smoothly without a single penny.
Fast forward eight years, and neither of them could have predicted that this Internet company would grow increasingly lucrative, with a net profit of around $1 million per year. This Internet company would not lose money even if the two stayed at home and did nothing. All they needed to figure out was how to grow the company.
Feng Bin was believed to have a great career at the time, but if a person had a successful career, he would want a normal relationship. Yet anytime Feng Bin looked at his wife, he felt sorrow and sadness because he realized he had married her for the purpose of his job and not out of love.
On this day, he observed He Huijuan confessed; he was moved and couldn’t stop himself from telling his story.
Two people with stories met, and one man and one woman with alcohol got together.
Neither of them went home that night; they spent the night in the hotel.
Thus began the cheating careers of the two.
Formally, he didn’t need to go to the company every day. He had a lot of idle time, and He Huijuan did not work and played games at home every day. Both had a lot of time, so they began to cheat.
Because of the unique nature of Feng Bin’s marriage, he had to approach this extramarital romance with caution, because if it were revealed, what Feng Bin would have to suffer would not be worth it. Feng Bin, who has worked so hard for so long, could, of course, ruin everything for himself because of a lady, even if this woman was a goddess in his high school.
So Feng Bin was very sensitive to these concerns, and after each “meeting,” he erased all communication information on both of their cell phones.
This relationship was first intended to fill a void in her life, but shortly after, He Huijuan began making a request to Feng Bin, which was for Feng Bin to divorce his wife and marry her the following year.
Feng Bin just wanted to find a woman to express his feelings, but after so many years of hard work, he didn’t want to ruin it because of the same woman.
But He Huijuan was getting more and more annoying; she was always asking when Feng Bin would divorce Hanna and if he even wanted to marry her in the first place.
Four days ago, after doing it once, He Huijuan finally had a showdown with Feng Bin.
She threatened to go to Hannah and tell her everything if Feng Bin did not divorce her. Feng Bin tried to argue but He Huijuan had already issued an ultimatum.
Feng Bin was 30 years old, and it was difficult to begin over. He lacked that kind of momentum and didn’t believe he could pull it off. Thus, after assuring He Huijuan that he would divorce Hannah, Feng Bin took out the serrated knife from the kitchen.
He came to the bedroom again, gently stroking He Huijuan’s face and putting his hand inside the quilt.
A hand blocked He Huijuan’s mouth, and a knife stabbed her abdomen.
Feng Bin had never killed a chicken, let alone a human being. He had expected He Huijuan to battle ferociously, as depicted in TV shows, but he had not expected her to die softly. Her eyes widened; she never imagined Feng Bin would kill her.
That gentle and golden man became a beast in the face of his own interests.
Since he had done it, there was no going back.
Feng Bin deleted all the information about himself on He Huijuan’s mobile phone and then left her home in a hurry.
After returning home, Feng Bin didn’t say anything; he washed his face and hands, booked a plane ticket to Dongxing City, and then took the high-speed train to Yuzhou City. After that, Feng Bin returned to Yuzhou City by riding a black car, riding a motorcycle, etc. without leaving his personal information.
That took exactly four days.
Before going home, Feng Bin contacted his wife Hannah via a stranger’s cell phone, requesting her to arrange two million yuan in cash. She didn’t grasp what Feng Bin was about to do at that time until Feng Bin came home and informed Hannah that he had murdered someone and was going to become a fugitive in this life.
During this time, Feng Bin transferred all the shares under his name to Hannah’s name and then bid her goodbye.
Jiang He realized that at this time, Hannah must’ve sent a text message to the police, and the police immediately went to Feng Bin’s home to arrest him.
But when Feng Bin saw the arrival of the police through the surveillance at home, he gave up on the other bag of cash and hid in the garage. After the police entered the villa, Feng Bin escaped from there. But Feng Bin did not expect Jiang He to uncover his escape route.
So during the escape, Feng Bin tossed a million yuan to block Jiang He from chasing him, but Jiang He relied on his own wisdom and waited on the route that Feng Bin wanted to use to escape. After some chasing on the train track, it was not Jiang He who caught Feng Bin; it was Feng Bin who turned around and saved Jiang He.
So Jiang He was here with Feng Bin.
It was not so much that Jiang He arrested Feng Bin as that Feng Bin got himself arrested. If it weren’t for Feng Bin turning around, Jiang He wouldn’t be here.
Jiang He spoke again: “I really want to ask you a question, and I have already asked you this question on the train track, but you didn’t answer me.”
Feng Bin looked at Jiang He, who appeared to be puzzled and suddenly laughed, as he spoke: “There is no reason; many times many things are unreasonable; you have to understand…
“Not all questions have answers.”
