Chapter 153: Chapter 0153 Home (Part 1)_1
“Cousin, do you know where Cousin-in-law is from?”
“He’s a native of Jiangnan,” Yang Xinyi replied.
The reason she knew Ye Xiong was from Jiangnan was because it was written so in the household registration book when they got married, but his registration only included himself, and she knew nothing about his family.
“What does his family consist of, and what’s his position among his siblings?” Tang Ning asked curiously.
“I’m not sure,” Yang Xinyi answered casually.
“You can’t be serious, you don’t even know how many people are in his family?” Tang Ning exclaimed in surprise.
“What’s so strange about that? I married him, not his family,” Yang Xinyi said, feigning indifference.
“Then where was he born, what has he done before, and what kind of life has he lived?” Tang Ning continued.
“Don’t know.”
“Ignorance on three accounts. I don’t know how you’re doing as a wife, living together every day with nothing to talk about except for, you know, doing the deed.”
“If you’re so curious, go ask him yourself when he comes back tonight,” Yang Xinyi rolled her eyes and slapped her hand on her cousin’s head, scolding, “What do you know about doing the deed? Can’t your brain hold onto anything wholesome?”
“Doing the deed, it just means playing on the computer,” Tang Ning rubbed her little head and giggled, “Cousin, what else did you think it was?”
Yang Xinyi didn’t even bother to talk to her cousin who had lost all sense of integrity.
This girl’s personality matched Ye Xiong’s, who had naughty thoughts 24/7, perfectly; both lacked any sense of integrity.
“Cousin, do you think brother-in-law could have been a murderer, a rapist, or a grand thief?” Tang Ning pondered with her head propped up, muttering to herself, “Definitely not a rapist. With a beauty like me around the villa, he hasn’t had any crooked thoughts, so we can rule that out. He probably isn’t a murderer either. With that macho appearance, he might not be a good person, but killing doesn’t seem like him. As for being a grand thief, he’s got too much charisma. Even if he committed a crime, it must have been the work of someone with high intelligence…”
“He has charisma, my foot!” Yang Xinyi scoffed.
“Of course, he does. Don’t just look at his carefree exterior; he actually knows a lot. A man’s charisma is built up from culture, knowledge, and skills. Look at brother-in-law, even cooking porridge, he does it better than those who cook abalone; fighting, he can take on a dozen alone, and his English is more fluent than those dead foreigners. Du Yuehua’s hotel was brought to life by his management, indicating that he has great leadership abilities… Think about it, with so many qualities in one man, could he possibly be a simple character?” Tang Ning elaborated with enthusiasm.
Yang Yi fell silent. She hadn’t realized that after living with him for so long, she had failed to see so many of his qualities.
Tang Ning, despite having spent less time with him, saw him far more clearly.
Was she, as his wife, doing something inadequately?
“Brother-in-law, on the surface, looks quite dashing, but no one knows what’s inside his heart. Like at the moment he got out of the car just now, the forlorn expression with a touch of world-weary sophistication was absolutely smashing,” Tang Ning said, getting more excited as she spoke.
“Oh, come on, is he really as great as you say?” Yang Xinyi interrupted.
“Absolutely. I bet brother-in-law’s background is definitely not simple. Even if his family is humble, his experiences aren’t, or else he wouldn’t exude such an attractive aura,” Tang Ning mused, clenching her fist, “Oh heavens, why did I have to meet him after you were married, cousin? It’s such bad luck!”
Slap!
A slap landed directly on her face as Yang Xinyi barked, “If you keep blabbering, the next slap will be on your mouth.”
“You dare to hit me? I’ll flirt with your husband and steal him away,” Tang Ning humphed.
The taxi was rolling down the road.
“Driver, North Mountain Cemetery,” Ye Xiong instructed.
“Brother, headed to North Mountain Cemetery to pay your respects?” the driver asked with a smile.
“Yes.”
“North Mountain Cemetery is a feng shui treasure land, the dragon’s vein! A single grave there costs more than a house in the third ring road. Anyone who can afford a grave there has no ordinary wealth.” The chatty driver struck up a conversation.
“Oh.” Ye Xiong said, indifferently.
“I can tell from your accent that you’re from the Capital City, right?” the driver asked.
“You guess.”
“Although you’ve changed your accent, your way of speaking from Kyoto hasn’t changed—the pauses, the habitual choice of words, are all pretty close to the Capital City’s. I guess you were born in Kyoto and then moved away, right?”
“I was indeed born in the Capital City.” Ye Xiong had to admire the man’s perception.
After joining the special forces, in order to hide the origins of the members, they all trained in spoken language and accent correction. Ye Xiong was confident he could deceive even a discerning linguist, but he didn’t expect to be seen through by a cab driver.
Sure enough, experts were among the common folk.
“I’ve been driving a taxi in the Capital City for twenty or thirty years, seen all kinds of people, heard all kinds of speech, this little challenge doesn’t stump me…” After being praised, the driver seemed to have found a kindred spirit and started to blow his own trumpet.
Ye Xiong couldn’t stand his prattling and shouted, “Master, could you turn on the radio and listen to the news?”
“No problem.”
Finally, some peace.
“This is our reporter reporting: Ye Yuandong, one of the top ten richest men in the Capital City, will be hosting a historic jewelry exhibition at the Jianghai Group headquarters in the coming days. A variety of top-tier jewels will be displayed, including ‘The Star of Asia’ and ‘The Heart of the Ocean’ among other top-tier pieces. The most famous of these is the engagement ring of Alice, the daughter of The Queen of England, arguably one of the most precious gems in the world… Ye Yuandong stated that securing the sponsorship of Princess Alice will propel the jewelry business of the Capital City to new heights.”
“In this day and age, the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.” After listening to the news, the driver sighed deeply, “I really don’t understand what Ye Yuandong, at his age, is doing with all this. He has more money than he could ever count in his lifetime, yet who knows which bastards will end up with it in the end.”
“Doesn’t he have a son?” Ye Xiong asked.
“His ex-wife did have a son, but he’s dead. Seemed like he joined the military and died on a mission. I don’t understand what that old man was thinking, sending his only son to the military to die. Now, after remarrying, his second wife has given birth to two daughters. He has no heir to carry on his legacy, and who knows which sons-in-law will end up benefiting in the end.”
“He got what he deserved.” Ye Xiong said coldly.
“Exactly, he got what he deserves.” The driver cursed out of spite for the rich.
“Didn’t his first wife also have a daughter? What’s become of her now?”
“You’re talking about Ye Yangyang, right? She seems to be studying at a high school in the Capital City, but she doesn’t seem to have much of a status. I heard she’s often bullied by her half-sister…”
“Master, we’ve arrived.”
The car stopped, and Ye Xiong bought a bouquet of lilies at the entrance of the cemetery and walked up.
The sunset’s afterglow spread over the cemetery, casting everything in a golden hue.
He walked towards his mother’s tombstone.
From a distance, he saw a delicate and exquisite figure standing there. Catching sight of the familiar silhouette, Ye Xiong trembled all over and instantly his eyes brimmed with tears.
