Chapter 1596: The Assessment Awaits
Before heading to the assessment area to train new knights and become part of the Red Wing Army, the group were taken to a small little building that was connected right into the gate.
Here each of them were given tags that they could either wear around their neck or keep in their pocket to show when asked. With it they could now enter and leave the city as they wished, without getting any eyebrows raised from the guard.
Finally the three of them walked in, and they were quick to try and use their nose to see if they could smell any others, but it seemed impossible because there were just far too many smells right in front of them.
The city was bustling and filled to the brim with people. There were buildings on top of buildings and the streets that were there were filled with stalls, every person selling something that they had made themselves.
Then carting through the city were Adventurers with weapons heading off to the guild to hand in certain things for rewards and not just that, but the contraptions were interesting as well.
They saw several items being placed on a large circular platform, the area was cleared and then pulling a lever large amount of steam shot up and the items were chucked into the air to be caught, allowing for quick access from the bottom to the top.
There was more technology than they had envisioned, just a lot of it was cogs, wheels, levers and steam, and the first thought that came to Gary's mind was some of the games that Tom used to play.
"This is like a steampunk city! This place is cool!" Gary said.
Jored smiled and puffed his chest out a bit, as a citizen of the city he was certainly proud of it, every person in the Red Wing Kingdom was, it was their pride and joy.
"Not only do we have the strongest army with the strongest knights in all of Bornzeland but we have the most advanced city there is out there," Jored explained. "As you can see we have quite a few mechanical workings that work in the city."
The three even stared at something that looked like a tram that was moving through the town as people got out of the way, and there were those that would just jump on and off.
"The reason for all of the advancement is because of the dwarves."
"Dwarves, like real dwarves, those small old people that are really good at building stuff," Gary said.
"Yes, it seems you are at least knowledgeable in that aspect," Jored said. "Many of them had gone back to theirhomeland, but there were those that had decided to stay, as they felt like they owed a lot to the old King.
"So they stayed and passed on everything to improve the lives of the people, and this is the result of it all. Because of that, more and more people wish to get into the Red Wing Kingdom.
"That comes with its own dangers and warriors, especially from the other kingdoms even those that are meant to be our ally. Which is why it's important to continue improving our own strength as well."
From the look of things and walking around, there was more than one guild based in the city, and there were those knights that also ventured around the city that worked almost like a police force.
Just as Jored said they were well loved and recognized, even those had come up to thank Jored as they walked past, some of them even passing him gifts. Soon though, they were getting away from the main area of the city, and then they could see a large wide building.
There was a wall within the city that surrounded it, and on the few entrances there were knights that were stationedaround the place as well.
"This is what used to be known as Avrion Knight Academy. It's been rebuilt, we don't have such a strict system as in the past, anyone who wishes to become a knight can take the assessment and if they pass, from there they will receivethe training."
As Jored continued on past, they entered through the side where there was almost a mini arena which had been set up. There were stands, but one that could only allow a few hundred people to sit and watch.
Then a large open space with a small wooden gate for those to come in and out. Lastly there were those that clearly weren't knights. They were wearing normal gear, a few of them with pieces of armour here and there.
And there was also the opposite: those with full sets of armour and weapons that looked like adventurers.
When they walked over, they had to head to a man with two guards by his side who was sitting at the table. They could overhear the conversation as Jored was doing as he promised and had recommended the three of them for the assessment.
"There are two sessions a day, you guys have made it just in time for the second session, relax here and it will start in a few minutes," Jored said. "I guess it's my time to head off now, but a word of advice to the three of you.
"Being a knight they're going to test you on your skills with weapons, but I imagine all of you pretty much suck at using weapons, so do your best on all of the other tests, blow them out of the water so they have to accept you regardless." Jored waved off and left the three of them be.
"Do our best?" Gary said. "I guess we can do that."
