Chapter 1247: Saiber's Will (Part 1)
In total, the Altered backup members were relatively large. In the first place, there wasn't a mass amount of members in the Altered Hunters, and in the first launch of attack led by Edvard, they had already used a significant number of their forces.
Still, with the fifty or so members, they believed that it would be enough of a backup to help the current Altered Hunters that were in their mess. An elite force of only high-quality members, apart from the three apprentices that were allowed to come on the trip.
However, the force of the backup hunters had been split, in order to reclaim what already had been gained. Too many lives from the organization were lost defeating the first three of the Ironfangs.
The Altered Hunters needed a quick win, and gaining back that territory would be the win they needed. They could then group up and aim for the Garden, or go straight for the castle after that.
This was the plan, the brief they had all been informed about before they had entered the city, and all of them thought it would go smoothly with small hiccups. In that moment, as Saiber stared at one of the Ironfang leaders in front of him, he was starting to think.
'I should have known, from when things went wrong on the ship, that this wasn't going to be easy, that this mess was going to happen. But the situation we are in now, is not one that I can back down from!'
"I am the Ironfang Rax!" the red-furred Werewolf said in a deep voice. "All of you shall remember my name, as I slice all of you down one by one!"
The red-furred Werewolf Rax took the weapon from his back and spun it in the air. The heavy sound of wind moving could be heard by all, and in a smooth motion, he slammed it onto the floor.
Saiber had launched himself to the side, jumping, missing the attack. As he looked back, he could see a large red line on the ground that had come out from the sword, and flames erupt out of them.
Gary had pulled another one of the Altered Hunters away before the attack had activated, consuming the two of them.
"Thanks for that," the hunter said.
"It's going to be hard, when he has attacks that can extend out of his weapon like that, to keep track of fighting these, as well as all of those that are coming around us!" As Gary said those words, he turned around and kicked a Werewolf right on its mouth at the perfect time.
He didn't quite hold back his strength as he poured power into the attack, hoping that the Werewolf wouldn't come back up.
The Altered Hunter who had just witnessed this was quite amazed by what was happening. The timing of the attack was perfect, but more importantly, the strength needed—with no weapon—to make it so an Altered could stray from its path, was not something an ordinary person could do.
"Get up!" Gary said. "We gotta get up. It looks like all of those Werewolves that had come with the red one are targeting us."
There was already a group of around ten Werewolves that had attacked them from behind, but along with Rax there were ten more that had come along with him. Gary was originally worried that Saiber would have to fight not just whatever this Ironfang was, but also the ten around him.
Although it seemed like he didn't have to worry so much about fighting the other ten because they were around them now. The Altered Hunters had formed a circle-like formation with their weapons drawn, as they were clearly on the back foot.
"Fight… fight until your last breath!" Saiber shouted. "I will be fighting with everything I have, and once I'm done with this one, I'll help you guys out, I'll pull you all out of this! So don't worry, keep fighting, and know that I'll come and help you!"
Saiber shouted as he charged right at the Ironfang Rax. He had his two short blades that were glowing somewhat, he then threw one of them right towards Rax.
With the giant axe, he spun it around him. This time, not only did wind gather, but a tornado of flames waved around his body. The dagger was deflected and had hit the side. The next thing he knew, Rax, bearing his teeth and his entire form, had lunged through the tornado of flames and bared his teeth right at Saiber.
'He can't do it… he can't beat him!' Gary thought as he saw the situation. But he was too far to even help, even with any of his skills, he wouldn't reach in time. From what his appearance was like, Rax looked to be a hunter-type class. Their limbs were slightly longer than other Werewolves, but he had yet to use the special trait and instead was using the weapon.
The Werewolves were already strong enough without having to use any weapons, and now using even more powerful weapons than the hunters themselves, they had next to no advantage in this fight.
Saiber, though, wasn't looking at Rax. His eyes were in another direction. As he reached out his hand, Saiber's body started to move directly in a straight line at an incredible speed.
Rax landed on the ground, his feet skidding through the floor as he had completely missed his target. When he turned around, he could see Saiber holding the second dagger in his hand, and in a completely different position than he was in before.
"How did he get there so fast?" Rax asked as he lifted his axe up, resting it on his shoulder.
"Did you think you guys were the only ones with special weapons?" Saiber said. "There's a reason why I'm a five-star hunter, and there's a reason why I was picked to lead this group to make sure the gang of Ruin City will fall!"
