Chapter 66: A monster?
As Tahir stepped into Lucius's apartment, he noted the simplicity of the space, quiet and organized, much like its owner. Lucius was by the table, waiting, his expression unreadable as usual.
After a pause, Lucius spoke, skipping any formalities. "So, what's your motivation behind building a faction?"
Tahir's expression remained neutral. "That's personal."
Lucius raised an eyebrow, but a small, almost amused smile hinted on his face. "I didn't call you here to pry into your reasons or to start a fight." He took a deliberate pause, keeping his tone measured. "I reached out because I see potential perhaps for an alliance, if it's ever needed."
The words hung in the air, and Tahir allowed himself to ease up just a little, though he kept his guard intact. He was beginning to wonder if Lucius genuinely meant what he said or if this was some form of test.
At that moment, the door opened, and one of Lucius's team member stepped inside. They glanced from Lucius to Tahir, a flicker of urgency passing across his face, shifting the atmosphere in the room ever so slightly.
As the team member stepped closer, he held something out toward Tahir, his hand brushing against Tahir's shoulder as he offered it. Instantly, a surge of energy coursed through Tahir, igniting a fierce pain that shot straight into his mind. He staggered, dropping to his knees as an agonizing pressure filled his skull.
"No!" Tahir's voice broke, his fists clenching as he pressed them to his temples, veins bulging visibly along the sides of his head. "No... I'll never lose you... I refuse to let you die! I refuse to let you go again!"
The pain twisted his thoughts, bringing up memories he'd buried, faces he'd long struggled to protect. His voice was a mix of anguish and defiance, echoing through the room.
Lucius, startled by the sudden turn, turned sharply to his team member. "Mark! What did you do to him?"
Mark shrugged, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Just a little payback for taking down one of ours. It's nothing serious... unless, of course, his team refuses to let go of their alliance with Two Fang. Once that's agreed, I'll lift it."
Tahir's breathing grew ragged as he fought against the power pressing down on his mind.
Tahir's team moved quickly, weapons drawn, a clear warning in their stance.
John stepped forward, his voice sharp and unwavering. "Cancel it now, Mark! You have no idea what you're unleashing. Tahir isn't like us he doesn't just endure pain, he turns it into something else. Something you won't want to face. Stop it before it's too late."
Mark hesitated, glancing back at Tahir, whose eyes were now bloodshot, a deep, raw crimson that seemed to pulse with barely-contained fury. An unnatural silence hung in the air, and then, with a suddenness that left everyone frozen, Mark's face twisted in terror. He clutched his head, stumbling backward as he began to scream.
"No! Make it stop!" His voice was thick with desperation, breaking as he dropped to his knees, his entire body convulsing. "His memories… they're too much... his pain… I can't...."
His ability, meant to bring out others' fears and struggles without letting them affect him, now turned against him. Tahir's memories were overpowering, dragging Mark deeper into an experience he hadn't anticipated.
Mark's voice shook with disbelief. "No… enough! I don't want to see more, stop!"
Lucius, visibly shaken, turned to his team member and shouted, "Mark! Stop this if you're still able, pull out now!"
Mark's trembling hands pressed against his head, but his grip on his power was long lost.
Tahir's gaze turned primal, a wildness taking over. In an instant, he bolted toward Mark with lightning speed, his rage unleashed, a force barely contained. John reacted in pure instinct, lunging forward faster than even Tahir's charge, grabbing Mark and rolling them both to the ground, narrowly escaping Tahir's path of fury.
"He's lost it pin him down! Tahir is completely out of control!" John's voice rang with urgency. "Lucius, do something now!"
Lucius's eyes narrowed, and he extended his hand, activating his gravity ability. The air around him grew heavy, as if a dense pressure were pressing down on everything in its range. Lucius possessed a unique mastery over gravitational forces, creating an invisible but crushing weight centered on his chosen target.
His gravity power allowed him to manipulate gravitational fields. His technique of gravity known for allowing it users enforcing their will onto any object or person within reach, Lucius could amplify the force in specific areas, making movement impossible and grounding even the strongest opponents.
In moments, the immense force bore down on Tahir, anchoring him to the ground with relentless pressure. His arms and legs strained, muscles tensing in resistance, but the weight kept increasing as Lucius tightened his control. The sheer pressure felt like a mountain pressing down, preventing Tahir from moving or charging again.
Lucius gritted his teeth, focusing harder, his control precise and unwavering. "Stay down, Tahir," he said through clenched teeth, the gravitational force becoming nearly unbearable.
Despite the immense pressure weighing down on him, Tahir gritted his teeth, his muscles bulging as he slowly pushed himself up against the crushing force. His legs trembled, but he kept rising, blazing anger in his eyes, it was clear this wasn't the Tahir they know.
Lucius watched with surprise, not fully exerting his power but still shocked to see Tahir resisting at all. "Impressive," he muttered, his brow furrowing. Tahir's sheer determination and strength were unlike anything he'd encountered few could even attempt to stand under this kind of gravitational pull.
But Tahir wasn't backing down. Inch by inch, he fought his way upright, his body straining as he forced his way against the crushing weight, eyes fixed on Lucius as if daring him to try harder.
John's voice rang out, steady yet urgent: "Devil's Dune, lend him your help! Lucius can only do so much without killing Tahir. he's holding back, but Tahir's pushing through. We need to contain him before things escalate."
Esha stepped forward, extending her hands as a shimmering barrier materialized around Tahir, aimed to press him down into the ground. Jude summoned two large golems that surged forward, trying to grab hold of Tahir's arms, anchoring him in place.
Kris quickly touched Jude, his ability copying Jude's powers and their inverse. "I'll try to keep him from moving!" he called, pressing his hand to the ground. The earth softened beneath Tahir's feet, thickening into a heavy, sticky mud that clung to his legs.
Not far off, Zahra conjured her ice ability, directing sharp bursts of frost toward Tahir to freeze his limbs. "Hold on, Tahir!" she shouted as she tightened the freezing force around him, desperate to contain his surging strength.
But even as the team worked in unison, their combined powers seemed barely enough. Tahir's resistance only grew with each passing moment, his power intensifying. The more they pressed him down, the more he seemed to rise against them, each layer of restraint fueling his growing strength. Lucius grimaced, feeling the strain through his own gravitational hold.
"He's increasing his power level if this goes on much longer, we might lose control," Lucius warned, his grip tightening as he tried to prevent the situation from slipping further.
