Chapter 395: Finding Su Shanyue
After settling the women, Luo Xiu didn't delay. He dragged his weary body out of the Land of Lawlessness and continued on his journey.
Luo Xiu had already experienced the strength of Team Sakura Country. If it weren't for the two members from that team being too arrogant and letting their guard down, allowing him to lure them into the Land of Lawlessness, the outcome might have been very different. Since there were still three members on their team, Luo Xiu was extremely worried that Lin Xiyue and Su Shanyue might be found by them.
Time flowed like water. In the blink of an eye, ten days had passed.
Luo Xiu still hadn't found Lin Xiyue or Su Shanyue. However, during these ten days, he did encounter quite a few teams from other countries. Since he had run into them, it seemed improper not to relieve them of their competition plaques; doing otherwise would make him unworthy of the title "Dr. Outcast." So, Luo Xiu became a bandit, "politely" robbing anyone he met.
As he went from one robbery to the next, the name "Dr. Outcast" spread throughout the Lop Nor Secret Realm, making everyone's expression change at the mere mention of it. It reached the point where many Martial Artists, caught squatting in a pit, would panic when they heard Dr. Outcast was coming. They would clamp off mid-stream, pull up their pants, and run for their lives. Such was the terror inspired by Dr. Outcast.
「On this day.」
Luo Xiu traveled as usual and finally reached the Mirage Sand Sea within the Lop Nor Secret Realm. According to the Rule Manual, the Mirage Sand Sea was filled with quicksand pits and was home to many strange Demon Beasts. Day or night, the vapor in this sea of sand created illusions, causing travelers to easily lose their sense of direction and stumble into quicksand. However, crossing directly through the Mirage Sand Sea was the fastest way to the central oasis. Going around it would add an extra half a month to the journey.
After some consideration, Luo Xiu decided to enter the Mirage Sand Sea. His eyes could see through the vapor's illusions, so he wouldn't lose his way. Furthermore, his powerful Divine Sense, far surpassing his peers, could probe the path ahead, preventing him from stepping into any quicksand pits. As for those strange Demon Beasts, to him they were just rare ingredients. The foodies back in the Land of Lawlessness were nagging him every day to bring some back.
The Kun-stewing Divine Cauldron was a true divine miracle; even without seasonings, the food it cooked was exceptionally delicious. Wendy, the princess of Country Y, had undoubtedly eaten the world's finest delicacies. But ever since tasting food from the Kun-stewing Divine Cauldron, she felt that all the royal cuisine she had eaten before was nothing but garbage!
In the Mirage Sand Sea.
Luo Xiu moved forward with vigilance. As time ticked by, he suddenly heard the faint sound of a flute in the distance, mingled with the croaking of frogs. Even from so far away, the music seemed to possess a strange magic that penetrated his heart, making him feel a sense of sorrow.
Suddenly, his expression brightened. It's the Void Zen Sound! In that instant, he thought of Su Shanyue. Who else but Su Shanyue could produce the Void Zen Sound?
He immediately quickened his pace, sprinting toward the general direction of the music. The flute was distant, so the journey was long. After sprinting nonstop for half an hour, Luo Xiu finally reached his destination and found Su Shanyue.
At that moment, Su Shanyue stood in a field of sand stained red with blood, her jade flute held to her lips. The ethereal music lingered in The Void, exceptionally beautiful. Yet, all around her lay a thick layer of corpses and severed limbs—an image completely at odds with the heavenly music. Among the dead were the bodies of humans and Demon Beasts alike.
Toads as large as basins leaped from the quicksand, their wide mouths filled with venomous fangs. They let out strange croaks as they threw themselves at her recklessly. Yet, in an eerie display, the toads would disintegrate in The Void before they could even get close, instantly sliced apart by invisible sound blades.
It seems that since going to Xianyin Valley, Yueyue has learned how to control the Void Zen Sound. Not only can she speak like a normal person now, but this sound blade technique is also incredibly powerful. I'm afraid that among her peers, no one can match her. Seeing Su Shanyue so calmly dispatching the toad-like Demon Beasts and not in any mortal danger, Luo Xiu breathed a sigh of relief.
Because Su Shanyue was surrounded by the sound blades, Luo Xiu did not approach. He waited a short while until she finished her piece and had dealt with all the toad Demon Beasts before striding over nonchalantly.
"Miss Su, I didn't expect to actually find you here."
Su Shanyue's beautiful eyes lit up with excitement upon seeing Luo Xiu, and she hurried to meet him.
"Why did you come here?" Luo Xiu asked.
Su Shanyue was drenched in sweat, appearing exhausted. She walked up to him, wiped the beads of perspiration from her forehead, and said with a sweet smile, "After the Black Cloud Thunderstorm scattered us that night, I started heading towards the oasis by myself the next day. I figured you all would do the same, and we would eventually meet… and then I ended up here."
She added, lowering her head in embarrassment, "But I got trapped here. I couldn't find my way out, and I'm pestered by these toads every day."
Luo Xiu glanced at the toad corpses littering the ground and then at the human bodies nearby. "What's with these people?"
"They wanted to rob me of my competition plaque. I accidentally… killed them with the Void Zen Sound."
"The main thing is that you're unharmed," Luo Xiu said with a faint smile. "The world of Martial Artists is a cruel one. It's the survival of the fittest, where interests prevail and strength is honored. If you don't kill them, they'll harm you."
Su Shanyue knew he was comforting her and whispered, "Thank you."
Luo Xiu waved his hand, about to speak again, but his expression suddenly tensed as if he had noticed something.
"Watch out!" he shouted, dashing toward Su Shanyue and tackling her to the ground.
Knocked down, Su Shanyue's cheeks flushed red, unsure if it was from embarrassment or anger. Just as she was about to push him away, she saw his face twist in pain, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
"Dr. Chen, what's wrong?"
RRRIP! RRRIP...
At that moment, a strange sound came from behind Luo Xiu, and he cried out in pain. A pink toad tongue was stuck to his back, having torn away a large chunk of his clothes and the flesh beneath! The pain was so intense that for a moment, Luo Xiu's vision went black.
In that split second, all Luo Xiu saw was the toad's tongue shooting out from beneath the sand like a tentacle, heading straight for Su Shanyue. Caught off guard, he had no time to react beyond tackling her to the ground.
Su Shanyue quickly scrambled to her feet. The sight of Luo Xiu's mangled, bloody back made her beautiful eyes tremble.
Sucking in a sharp breath, Luo Xiu slowly got up and turned to look at the tongue. The appendage that had shot out from the sand now stood erect like a stake, twitching slightly as it shook the scraps of fabric from its tip with an air of disgust.
His expression grave, Luo Xiu shielded Su Shanyue behind him. With a sudden wave of his hand, he unleashed the Indestructible Divine Flame. The tongue instantly burst into flames, emitting the charred smell of protein. But then, it snapped, detaching the burning section and regrowing a new tongue at an incredible speed.
Suddenly realizing something, Luo Xiu glanced at the ground beneath them. Cursing inwardly, he grabbed Su Shanyue and dashed to the side. Almost at the exact same instant, a large patch of sand where they had been standing caved in. A massive creature the size of a house erupted from below, its cavernous mouth wide open!
At the same time, a terrifying aura descended upon the area, weighing heavily on body and soul.
"I nearly managed to wear this little girl down to complete exhaustion, and now you, boy, have to get in the way. In that case, I might as well devour both of you today!"
「At this very moment.」
Luo Xiu had already dragged Su Shanyue to a distant sand dune. He stared intently at the spot where they had been standing, his gaze fixed on the colossal creature, his expression growing ever more solemn.
It was a gigantic frog covered in eyes, standing over twenty meters tall!
Luo Xiu said, "This has to be at least a Level Eight Monster Beast, comparable to a Cultivator in the Mahayana Realm."
