Chapter 103: Make a Scene Again
"Commander Aldous, please calm yourself. We, the Sky Armor Legion, will handle this case fairly," said the muscular middle-aged man.
He seemed polite to the black-haired middle-aged man, but it was clear he showed no fear toward him—perhaps only respect for his position.
"How will this case be handled fairly when my son is already dead?" Aldous asked. "Paul, unless you're trying to say that the case will end with my son being at fault?"
"What if that's truly the case?" Paul replied, his voice somewhat low, yet still loud enough to be heard clearly.
"Cough!"
Richard coughed involuntarily, not expecting him to say such a thing.
Whether Paul was defending him or it was simply his personal conclusion, Richard wasn't sure.
What was certain was that Aldous's expression grew grim upon hearing it.
But Paul suddenly continued, his eyes narrowing. "Commander Aldous, whether you accept it or not, that's your problem. However, while inside the capital, you must forget about unlawful actions. We, the Sky Armor Legion, control the entire city formation's power, and there's hardly anyone we cannot suppress."
'Looks like I'll be safe as long as I stay inside the capital,' Richard thought after hearing Paul's words.
Of course, he felt confident about his own safety.
Now, not only did he have the Dragon Hall to hide in, but he also possessed a Flying Magic Vehicle for escape.
With the number of Nature Spirits he owned, it was hard to imagine anyone catching up with the speed of his Flying Magic Vehicle, since it could fly even faster if supplied with more Nature Spirits.
Still, it was better not to rely on those things and be able to move freely within the city.
With a dark expression, Aldous did not immediately respond.
Whoosh!
His son's corpse floated up into the air, reaching his hand. With a wave, he transferred it into his Storage Artifact, seemingly unable to look at it too long without being overcome by sorrow.
"There is no need for an investigation, then," he said coldly.
After that, he glared at Richard with burning intensity, his eyes full of hatred, before leaving.
'Why doesn't he want an investigation now? Is he embarrassed by the fact that his son died provoking someone who turned out to be stronger?'
Richard wore a strange expression as he watched the man leave, unfazed by his glare.
On the other hand, Austin looked stunned, as if he couldn't believe his superior would simply leave him behind.
"Ehmm…" Richard cleared his throat, noticing Paul frowning.
"Commander Paul, if the victim doesn't want an investigation, then there's no need for one, right?" Richard asked with an awkward smile.
He didn't know if Paul actually held the rank of commander, but out of politeness, there was no harm in addressing him as such.
In the provinces, perhaps there was only one commander, but in the capital, it wasn't strange for there to be many.
Richard truly hoped there would be no investigation. He was confident he would be in the right, but he preferred not to waste any unnecessary time.
Paul didn't immediately respond, as though he were thinking it over while staring in the direction Aldous had left.
After a while, he finally nodded.
"You'd better be careful. Aldous holds great influence within the Dark Star Legion. He's also an official member of the Order of the Crimson Veil. He might restrain himself within the city, but outside of it, he could kill you," Paul said.
Richard didn't care what kind of man Aldous was. He couldn't hide his delight when Paul nodded.
Laughing, he thanked him and left the coliseum, throwing a mocking glance at Austin as he went.
What he did next was simply wander around the city, though he wore the Ghost Robe for now.
Unexpectedly, the news of Aldous's son's death spread incredibly fast, as if someone had deliberately leaked it.
This was because the man Richard killed was a well-known figure.
His name was Noe, one of the young geniuses of the capital who was supposed to participate in the upcoming tournament.
In the capital, there were three representatives, as the capital alone was considered equivalent in prestige to nine provinces combined.
Though Noe was the weakest of the three, he was still regarded as exceptional.
Unfortunately, he had been accidentally killed by the boy who had recently stirred the capital.
Many people found it hard to believe, for after all, the boy was far too young.
But the fact remained. Those who spied on the Dark Star Legion confirmed that Noe was truly dead.
Once again, Richard became the center of attention, and there were even those who believed he could have won the tournament had he participated.
Now, people knew he had advanced into the Life Aether Realm and grown stronger, since breakthroughs practically always came with significant power increases.
That was proven by the fact that he had slain Noe.
Richard merely laughed when he overheard the various discussions about him.
After wandering for a while, he came upon a massive library filled with countless books.
He chose to stop by and read, expanding his knowledge of the world.
With his current strength, he could even read several books at once in a short span of time by relying on his Sixth Sense.
If he became even stronger—say, above the World Realm, reaching the Grimoire Realm—he might be able to read the entire library all at once.
He focused on books about the powerful figures of the Land of Humans, especially the Ancient Sovereigns recorded in history.
Their number turned out to be greater than he had expected.
Some of them were like his ancestor: Rulers who had failed to obtain World Magic Aether but survived and eventually grew stronger as time passed. Others were simply ordinary Rulers who reached that level through relentless cultivation.
Basically, Rulers with qualifications to compete for World Magic Aether, such as his ancestor or the Fire Spirit Queen, could more easily reach that level thanks to their already solid foundation.
Even within the Ruler Realm, they could actually contend with certain Ancient Sovereigns.
'Fortunately, my ancestor and the Fire Spirit Queen are still considered very powerful, especially if they've advanced into the Ancient Sovereign Realm,' Richard thought.
He couldn't help but sigh in relief, as he had started doubting whether his two backers were as strong as he believed.
But according to the information he read, they were indeed formidable.
Figures like them were rare, since most who competed for World Magic Aether failed to survive.
