Chapter 111: Chapter 111: This Zoo Won't Stay Open, The Price to Pay
When the fifteen seafood dishes, each priced at $20, were brought to the five diners, they noticed Zeng Shen sitting alone at a table across from them.
One of them, quite friendly, called out to him, "You're from Daxia too, right? Why not join our table for a meal and a chat?"
"Isn't that a bit much?" Zeng Shen hesitated.
The others warmly encouraged him as well.
"As fellow Daxia people, we're like family abroad. Come, join us for a lively meal."
"Yes, don't be shy. These are just affordable dishes, nothing too expensive."
After a moment's hesitation, Zeng Shen nodded, "Alright then."
He moved his chair over and told a nearby waiter, "Please bring my seafood order to this table."
"What did you order?" Lu Diao Ying asked.
"I... I wasn't sure what to get, so I just ordered two random dishes," Zeng Shen said, trying to be modest.
"If you didn't know what to get and ordered randomly, you shouldn't waste money. We've ordered fifteen seafood dishes among us, and we can't finish them all. You should cancel your order and join us," one of them suggested.
"Yes, exactly."
"Excuse me, has this gentleman's order been prepared? If not, could we cancel it?" asked the young woman beside Wu Yifei.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, sir. His order is already being prepared and will be ready soon. Plus, he has already paid," the waiter replied.
Hearing this, the young people had no choice but to let it go.
"Hopefully, there won't be any duplicate dishes," said the young man beside Lu Diao Ying.
Looking at the dishes on the table, all from the $20 category, Zeng Shen felt a bit guilty, "I don't think so."
Lu Diao Ying turned to Zeng Shen, asking, "So, are you here in Old Gold Mountain as a tourist?"
"Yes, I'm backpacking on a budget to see Huanhuan and Yaya, but I didn't expect..." Zeng Shen continued, picking up their earlier conversation.
"We're here for the same reason. We've been planning this trip for ten years, but seeing Huanhuan and Yaya like this..."
"Exactly, we must..."
As they chatted, Zeng Shen learned why the five had come to the country and Mengchuan Zoo.
They had been selected as children to present flowers to Huanhuan and Yaya during their farewell ceremony when the pandas were loaned to the country. They had vowed to visit them in the future.
As they continued talking, they noticed a blonde restaurant manager leading several waitresses, pushing a large serving cart into the dining area.
The cart was laden with covered dishes, the aroma tantalizingly rich.
The manager stopped at their table, smiling at Zeng Shen, "Sir, your Maine lobster, explosive shark fin, Old Gold special fish sauce roasted turkey, crispy tuna, golden caviar, golden axe abalone steak, and king crab are all ready. Shall we serve them now?"
"Uh..."
Lu Diao Ying and his friends, in the midst of their meal and conversation, were stunned by the manager's words and the sight of the sumptuous dishes.
"Brother, you call that ordering two random dishes?"
"Brother, you're here on a budget trip? You're like a hidden wealthy second-generation enjoying life."
"My imagination is limited by my poverty."
Zeng Shen signaled for the manager to serve the dishes and gave his companions an embarrassed smile.
"Don't be shy, there's more if needed."
"This is plenty, more than enough," Lu Diao Ying assured.
His macaw echoed, "Too much, too much."
The meal lasted until nine in the evening.
Afterward, Zeng Shen excused himself to the restroom, paid the bill for his fellow countrymen, and then discreetly left.
Outside the seafood restaurant, Zeng Shen took a taxi to the vicinity of Mengchuan Zoo. He found a secluded corner, activated his invisibility, and approached the zoo's locked gates.
Eyeing the tall iron gates, he used a flying spell to soar over and headed towards Huanhuan and Yaya's enclosure.
Arriving there, he was enraged to see an elderly, pot-bellied white-skinned man, presumably the zoo director, with several caretakers, whipping the bars of the panda enclosure.
The whip's crack against the metal bars terrified Huanhuan and Yaya, who cowered in a corner, trembling and crying helplessly.
"Your country's yellow skins dared to call the embassy to complain about me abusing you, so I'll show you real abuse," the elderly director sneered, lashing at the cage again.
"This old bastard is the zoo director, huh?"
"Once I take my pets away, this zoo doesn't need to be open anymore."
Zeng Shen gritted his teeth, focused, and cast a spell of acute gastroenteritis on each of them.
Instantly, the caretakers clutched their stomachs, rushing to the restroom.
Zeng Shen then used telekinesis to disable the zoo's cameras, ensuring his actions went unnoticed.
Finally, he revealed himself, teleporting to Huanhuan and Yaya's cage.
Seeing Zeng Shen, the pandas let out joyful howls, like aggrieved children finding solace in an elder.
Zeng Shen picked up a nearby key, opening the cage.
Huanhuan and Yaya rolled over to him, hugging his legs and sobbing.
"There, there, don't cry. We're going home. I'll take you to a clean place," Zeng Shen comforted them, opening the portal to his divine realm and carrying them through to a large southern lake.
He then set up two intelligent mechanical workers, programming them as panda caretakers.
Once in the divine realm, Huanhuan and Yaya released their hold on Zeng Shen, curiously and excitedly exploring their new surroundings.
When Zeng Shen released the mechanical workers, the pandas were startled and clung to his legs again.
"Ha ha," Zeng Shen laughed, "No need to be afraid."
"This is your home now."
"These mechanical workers will care for you when I'm not around. But you mustn't be naughty. Listen to them, and don't harm them or any other animals here."
Zeng Shen advised them.
The pandas looked at him with their big, black eyes, grinning and nodding.
"Go have a bath. I'll bring other friends to join you," Zeng Shen suggested.
"Ow," Huanhuan and Yaya howled reluctantly as Zeng Shen prepared to leave.
"I'll be back soon after I finish my work," Zeng Shen reassured them, stepping out of the divine realm.
Returning to the zoo, he cast another round of acute gastroenteritis on the director and caretakers, who had barely recovered from the first bout.
Zeng Shen then retrieved the animals he had tamed during the day, bringing them into his divine realm and assigning three new mechanical workers to oversee them.
He instructed the animals to coexist peacefully before leaving the divine realm.
As he exited, Zeng Shen's smile vanished, replaced by a cold demeanor.
"It's time for the zoo director to pay the price."
