Chapter 65: Lord of Darkness
Felix dismissed Ben after assuring him he'd find Kyle, then returned to the Kings Hotel where his presence surprised the staff, and the manager was quickly called down to attend to him himself.
He was yet to visit the Sage Council to clear the air on his disappearance—and didn't plan on doing that anytime soon. Felix had breached their secret lab looking for one of their subjects, and attacked the Titan Capital right after. The arson might also be pinned on him by Titan. So in other words, they knew Felix was onto something, and walking into the Sage HQ at this moment would be walking into a live trap.
Felix at that moment wanted nothing more than to get back to his room and review his gains from the past few days, and so he dismissed the manager and was finally alone. But before he immersed himself with his system, he had a few people to call first. Namely: John, and Elizabeth.
He dialed John's contact and his manager was as surprised as the hotel staff to hear he was back. But he had bad news for him: his endorsements have all been cancelled by the Sage Council, for no apparent reason—according to John. But on the brighter side, he had already secured a few million dollars deals which could not be cancelled, and Felix had to make himself available for that.
Felix was not too surprised by this but was in fact amused at the Sage Council's petty tactics to oppress him. This made John unhappy as he couldn't understand what had transpired between Felix and the council that would result in such extreme actions, and the fact that Felix dismissed it every time he tried asking.
He also informed Felix that he'd found a few houses which fit his description, but Felix was no longer interested in buying a house—at least not for the time being, or even in that country.
Felix thanked him for the information and efforts he put in, and promised to make himself available, but requested a speed run on them. He still needed the money—for his mother, as he would be leaving Earth soon to play the big leagues and couldn't bring her along with him. The least he could do was to retire her, ensure her safety, and set her off for life.
Felix then dialed Elizabeth's contact thinking about what the Sage Council's next move might be. He was relieved they were trying to keep it low-key, just like Felix was. So he shouldn't be expecting a squad of Sages SWATing him—though a few assassins couldn't be ruled out.
Elizabeth wasn't as surprised as everyone that he was back, but was more relieved. Even after what she saw of Felix's state after a single attack from the 'mosquito queen', she believed in him and had the intuition that the strange disappearance was in his favor. Felix was impressed.
He initially planned on dismissing her now he had no use for her—he only contacted her for the Bongo neighborhood—but decided to shift their date to a more convenient time. This time to catch up with an old acquaintance.
Felix then decided at the last minute to call his mother to check up on her, and after hearing she was doing just fine, he transferred 3 million out of the 4 million in his account to her for her upkeep.
Back to business.
Felix summoned his interface and was about to start thrifting through his previous notifications on his bed when, on a second thought, he decided it was better to do that in his domain with Lilith's guidance regarding the gifts and endorsements.
With a mental command and a dark fog covering his room, Felix found himself standing before the dark castle—his castle. The main entrance.
He walked into the lobby to see Lilith sitting behind the high table reading a book with a black binding that exuded an eerie aura. Her thighs crossed over the other.
"Don't you ever do anything aside from sit there like a receptionist?" Felix couldn't help but ask as he approached.
Lilith slowly looked up from her book, slightly amused. "Anything… like what?" She asked with a tilt of her head.
"This castle is at least twenty floors high. There can't possibly be nothing to do here. Don't you train?" Felix asked curiously, leaping onto the black aesthetic high table and lowering himself to sit cross-legged in a lotus position, facing Lilith who sat opposite on the wide chair.
"Train?" She scoffed. "Training with dummies has become ineffective for me seven centuries ago. I need real battle experience to grow."
"I could train with you if you wanted. I'm practically immortal here, so you don't have to hold back… much. I need real battle experience as much as you do. So how about that?" Felix asked her with a brilliant smile. It was a good suggestion which would yield unimaginable growth benefits for both of them—him especially.
Lilith went silent for a moment, staring into his eyes like she was considering it. But Felix knew she liked the idea from her slight smile, and knew she probably hadn't thought of it as Primordials weren't supposed to interfere in their Champions' daily lives or even interact this close and this much.
But they were different.
"What are you even reading?" Felix asked as his eyes fell on the book in her hands.
"Mhmm… It's about a sailor and a siren who fell in love against all odds," Lilith hummed for a moment before saying poetically.
"What?" Felix was pleasantly surprised and quickly snatched the book from her hands to have a look at the page she had open, when he saw it wasn't a novel, but was actually a spell book about runes inscription written in an ancient language he couldn't understand.
Lilith began chuckling in amusement with her hands delicately raised to cover her lips. Felix could only pause to stare at her with a sheepish smile that made him look like a handsome goat. When he remembered he had come down there for a reason.
"Oh, yeah."
He already knew he was at Lv6 from the brief clash with Sage Jackson, and knew he should be at least halfway to Lv7 as Sage Jackson had been two levels above him.
What was left for him now, was to check his new skill set and the gains from his four-day-long live stream. And there was no better person than to compile that other than his manager—Lilith.
"Did we make anything worthwhile from my stream?" Felix asked.
"Well, it was a massive success. We made over a billion in universal coins and quite the items and materials needed to skyrocket your suicide career to the moon. In other words, we're no longer broke," Lilith said with a smirk. "The list is quite long so don't ask me to compile it for you," She quickly added.
"That's great. As long as you know the list, if I were to ever need something we have in the treasury, don't hesitate to spoil me with it," Felix replied with a grin. "Then I guess all that's left for me to do is check my new skill set." He added in anticipation.
"Or not. You're missing something," Lilith said as her expression turned serious.
"What is that?" Felix asked in uncertainty.
"You received a private request from Goddess Zemira."
"…A private what?" Felix didn't know why his heart skipped a beat at that.
"She's inviting you over to her domain for… 'dinner'. Congratulations, you just joined the big leagues."
Felix was even more confused now. "What do you mean by that?"
"You've been really slow lately," Lilith said and pointed her chin upwards at the black halo over his head, "That crown has been missing for over a millennium since the absence of the Witch Master—until yesterday, when it made itself known after finding a worthy bearer. After choosing you, Felix. You now hold the key to the gates of the underworld. The power over death. The influence… to become the next Lord of Darkness. The Crown of Judgment."
Like the class system was reacting to Lilith's words, a series of notifications attacked Felix's vision the next moment and sent him in a momentary state of shock as his pupils constricted to the size of a pin hole with his mouth gaping:
