Chapter 820: Unbearable Itching
The scene was filled with wails of agony and continuous pleas for mercy.
Even voices of repentance could be heard.
There was no need for Ye Guichen to press further; they had almost confessed everything.
Ye Guichen released the man with the Big Gold Chain from his grip.
The man turned and tried to flee.
But Gongsun Fengying had no intention of letting him go, delivering a kick that broke both his legs.
"Ahhh, I'll pay, I'll pay, just spare me, please!" Big Gold Chain pleaded incessantly, "Don't call the police, I'm begging you, let us go."
Ye Guichen ignored him and headed straight into the village.
Upon entering, Ye Guichen saw that the village was in ruins, presumably due to long neglect. Most of the young people had left, leaving behind only a few old men sunbathing by the walls, and of course, those whose legs were broken by Gongsun Fengying, lying on the ground in pain.
Soon, Ye Guichen heard the cries of children coming from a household.
He hurried over and was stunned by the sight before him.
In the yard, there were over a dozen children, each with collars around their necks like dogs, chained to stakes in the ground.
Some of the children were over ten years old; some looked like they had just learned to walk. They were terrified at the sight of Ye Guichen entering.
A wave of inexplicable heartache washed over him.
"Recently, there have been reports of missing children from several cities around Quanzhou. It seems many are here," Zhang Chongchen sighed, appearing behind Ye Guichen. "I've had Changhe call the police. Someone should come to handle this. Let's head back."
Ye Guichen glanced at Zhang Chongchen: "Didn't you ask where these people intended to sell the children?"
Zhang Chongchen shook his head: "As long as we find the kids, others can handle the rest."
Ye Guichen chuckled bitterly: "I have a feeling it's not that simple."
As he spoke, he walked over to a big-eyed boy.
The boy looked at Ye Guichen in terror. He was the same one he'd encountered on the train before.
"Uncle Immortal, I... I'm scared," the little boy whispered.
Ye Guichen patted the boy's head: "It's okay, don't be afraid. Soon, someone will take you back to your parents."
Grabbing hold of the collars around the children's necks, Ye Guichen pulled gently and snapped them off.
The children gasped in surprise.
"Superman, you're Uncle Superman!"
Ye Guichen smiled, breaking off the collars one by one before tenderly stroking the boy's head, asking: "What's your name, young man?"
"I-I'm called Haoran—Haoran Zhengqi, like my parents hoped I'd grow up full of righteousness to protect the innocent and fight evil." The naive voice brought tears to Ye Guichen's eyes.
"Yes, little Haoran, grow up to be righteous, take down villains, and protect good people, okay?" Ye Guichen said.
Little Haoran nodded vigorously: "Yes, Uncle, when I grow up, I want to be like you."
Ye Guichen forced a smile, feeling a pang of bitterness, and after some comforting words, he left.
Returning to Big Gold Chain, Ye Guichen felt an urge to kill him.
Such a person could be killed a thousand times and still not quench his anger.
Luckily, he'd sensed something was amiss at the time, or who knows what fate would have befallen these children.
"Speak up. Why did you steal so many kids, and where were you planning to sell them?" Ye Guichen questioned Big Gold Chain.
Now slumped on the ground with his legs useless, Big Gold Chain looked up with a vicious glare, seemingly recovering from his earlier terror.
"Hehehe, what, do you want to play hero, play saint? Kid, I didn't expect to fall into your hands, but there are people out there willing to pay for children—thirty thousand per kid, that's big money. Why wouldn't I make a buck?" Big Gold Chain's eyes were bloodshot. "It's not just me—many people are risking it all. Don't think that saving them this time means these kids are out of danger. You're wrong. Tonight is the last date to deliver. If we don't meet the deadline, someone will come after you, and they will deal with you."
"What did you say!" Zhang Changhe grabbed Big Gold Chain's hair, "You've done such heinous things and you're still so arrogant. Do you think we won't dare to kill you?"
"Kill me?" Big Gold Chain sneered, "Go ahead, if you have the guts! As long as I'm not dead, someone will eventually get me out. You think you're tough? This time you've messed up our buyer's plans, you're done for."
Zhang Changhe punched Big Gold Chain in the stomach, twisting his face in pain.
Ye Guichen's expression darkened: "Then tell me, who's buying the children?"
"What, you want to catch them all?" Big Gold Chain weakly lifted his head, wiping the blood from his mouth: "I'm not afraid to tell you, it's Longsheng Hall. We were supposed to trade tonight. Don't think Longsheng Hall is just a traditional medicine shop. Ha, they've got big people behind them. You're doomed."
"Longsheng Hall?" Ye Guichen frowned, glancing at Zhang Changhe: "Do you know about it?"
Zhang Changhe hesitated momentarily: "It seems to be a traditional medicine shop, but I'm not sure. But if they're related to these beasts, we should take them out!"
Ye Guichen nodded: "Alright, but letting them off lightly is too good for them."
With that, he pulled out a silver needle, a cruel smile forming at the corner of his mouth: "Aren't you not afraid of death? Heh, I won't kill you today, but you'll spend the rest of your life in agony."
With a flick of his wrist, Ye Guichen placed a needle in Big Gold Chain's head.
Big Gold Chain tried to speak, but his expression suddenly changed, and he collapsed, writhing in pain: "So itchy, ahhhhh, so itchy!"
Zhang Changhe, aware of Ye Guichen's methods, exclaimed: "Mr. Ye, what did you do?"
"Nothing much, just making sure they experience unbearable itching every other day, each lasting at least an hour. Hmph, unless they die, this suffering will never end."
Ye Guichen's tone was icy as he moved toward the other thugs.
The rest, seeing their leader's agony, were terrified, looking at Ye Guichen as if he were a demon.
"You, don't come any closer!"
"Get away! Get away!"
"Ahhh!"
Nevertheless, they couldn't escape Ye Guichen's grasp.
Including the woman, Ye Guichen administered a needle to each one of them.
Finally finishing, a police siren sounded.
Ye Guichen knew they could now leave it to the authorities to handle.
Heavenly Master Tao had a good reputation in Quanzhou, and it seemed Zhang Chongchen knew some of the detectives.
After explaining the situation, they prepared to return.
Though the vintage car was smashed, it could still be driven, albeit looking a bit battered and drafty during the drive.
The most upset was Gongsun Fengying.
She had always dreamed of riding in Zhang Chonglou's vintage car, and though that dream had finally come true, it was not in the condition she imagined.
