Chapter 118 Just Want to Get Drunk
She was very angry, not understanding why her parents, who had always taught her to be indifferent to fame and wealth, suddenly did an about-face and became so snobbish.
"Daughter, you are a lady of high society! You are a phoenix on the branch! Such a lowly person is not worthy to be with you," Zhou Jiajia's mother replied.
Upon hearing this, Lin Yifan laughed; it seemed that the mighty remained mighty, not changing at all; to win over this mother-in-law, he was afraid he would have to bring out a mountain of gold to impress her!
"What do you mean 'worthy' or 'unworthy'? What do you mean 'lowly'? In modern society, everyone is equal; why differentiate between rich and poor, tall and short, fat and thin? If a person can provide for themselves with their own hands, what is there to be ashamed of? What makes them 'lowly'? On the other hand, you people who consider yourselves superior, I find quite lowly!" Zhou Jiajia criticized without concern for face.
She really detested her parents' current thinking and mentality.
"You unfilial daughter! I'll kill you!" Zhou Jiajia's father trembled with anger; he immediately stood up, without a word, raised his hand, and then without hesitation swung his palm towards Zhou Jiajia's face.
"Whoosh!"
The hand descended rapidly, reaching Zhou Jiajia's face in the blink of an eye.
Just when Zhou Jiajia thought she was going to get slapped, Lin Yifan intervened and stopped the blow.
"She's your daughter, there's no need to hit her; the fault lies with me, I'll just leave," he said.
Lin Yifan didn't want Zhou Jiajia's relationship with her parents to suffer because of him; Zhou Jiajia's parents' mindset was as rigid as could be, and very hard to change; unless he threw money at them, there was no way they would accept him.
"Jiajia, take care! Cherish yourself," he said.
After speaking, Lin Yifan left the place with a heavy heart and long strides.
"Yifan! Don't go! You promised you would marry me, you can't lie to me!" Zhou Jiajia cried tearfully, suddenly rushing over, hoping to hold him back.
However, just then, a stern and cold voice came from behind, "If you walk out this door, don't come back!"
Zhou Jiajia hesitated, torn between the parents who raised her and the man she loved most; who should she choose? In the end, the kind and filial Jiajia chose to stay.
"Wuu!!!"
Sitting on the ground, watching Lin Yifan's sad departing figure, she sobbed uncontrollably, never expecting things to end this way.
At that moment, Zhou's mother came over, then with a smile on her face, she said, "My dear daughter, don't cry; there are plenty of good men out there. I'll introduce one to you soon, I guarantee you'll be satisfied."
Little did she know, her daughter, believing it was meant kindly, responded with a shout, "Get lost! Leave me alone."
"How can you talk to your mother this way, really," her mother scolded, then left helplessly.
With her daughter in an extremely saddened state, her attempts at consolation were useless; it was better to wait until she calmed down before talking.
Meanwhile, after leaving Zhou Jiajia's house, Lin Yifan drove away, disappearing at the end of the driveway.
Thinking back on the experience just now, he grew angrier and angrier.
"Looking down on people! Looking down on people!!!" Lin Yifan was so angry he slapped the steering wheel, nearly driving onto the greenbelt.
Society was still snobbish; without money, without status, one was looked down upon everywhere. However, had it not been Zhou Jiajia's parents, he would have slapped them already.
Now, with his beautiful romance unjustly shattered, heartbroken, he went to a bar in the South City District to drown his sorrows with drink.
Loud singing filled the bar, vibrant and stirring, inciting restlessness in his heart; after zigzagging for a while, he finally reached the bar counter.
At this moment, a female bartender at the counter asked, "Sir, what kind of drink would you like to order?"
"Give me three dozen beers!" Lin Yifan blurted out, very forthright.
Hearing this familiar voice, the female bartender quickly turned her head, then curiously looked over at the man sitting at the bar and realized it really was him; afterward, she exclaimed in surprise, "Hey! Why is it you?"
"You know me?" Lin Yifan asked, looking up at the unfamiliar female bartender.
"Yeah! I am the girl you rescued last night at the Imperial City KTV," the bartender replied.
"Is it really you? How did you change into this appearance?" Lin Yifan asked in astonishment.
The image was completely off! The woman before him had short blue hair, lips painted a dark red, and was flashy in her dress, not at all like the girl from last night with flowing long hair, sensual and pretty.
"It's for work!" the female bartender replied succinctly, seemingly explaining everything with four words; then, she asked tentatively, "What do you need so much beer for? Did you get dumped by your girlfriend?"
Generally, people who come to a bar to drown their sorrows fall into three categories: those with work issues, those with family conflicts, and those who had broken up with their girlfriends.
And of the three, breakups accounted for the biggest proportion; therefore, she naturally thought of this first.
"Mind your own business, just serve the drinks!" Lin Yifan did not want to explain too much; he just wanted to drink himself into oblivion.
In these situations, bartenders generally cater to the client's needs; because people come here to drown their sorrows with alcohol, there's no reason to stop them.
After moving a dozen beers onto the counter, she went back to busying herself with her own tasks.
As soon as the beer arrived, Lin Yifan didn't hesitate and plucked up a bottle, prised off the cap, opened his mouth wide, and began to gulp it down.
"Glug! Glug!"
One bottle after another was emptied, but Lin Yifan still felt it was not enough to ease his sorrows, so he continued to drink heavily.
"Glug! Glug!"
Having chugged a dozen beers in three minutes, his sorrows still unassuaged, he called out loudly, "Another dozen!"
Seeing how quickly Lin Yifan had finished a dozen beers, the female bartender was quite shocked; because it usually takes a good fifteen minutes for an average person to drink a dozen beers, whereas he took only three minutes, which was freakish.
Then, she moved another dozen beers onto the counter for him to continue his attempt to get drunk.
"Glug! Glug!"
Lin Yifan entered into heavy-drinking mode, downing bottles one after the other, unable to stop.
Three minutes later, he had finished another dozen beers; at this point, he yelled once more, "Another dozen!"
"Holy cow! It's gone already?" the female bartender was astounded.
Because after the first dozen beers, a typical person's stomach would start to feel uncomfortable; thus, when drinking the second dozen, they would slow down. However, Lin Yifan's pace did not change at all, still at three minutes, which was a bit unscientific and unrealistic.
After observing Lin Yifan looking normal and coherent, the female bartender decided to bring up another dozen beers to satisfy his demands.
Lin Yifan grabbed the beer and continued his motive with renewed effort, determined to get himself totally drunk.
