Chapter 94: Bar Conflict
Feitian Group.
At the top floor, inside the Chairman's office.
Gao Fei sat in his office chair, discussing the company's recent business with several executives.
"The sales of the Hundred Diseases Cure Pill are very hot, but the profit generated is a little less," said Zhang Chunhui, the Vice President of the Group. "I suggest we increase the sales price of the Hundred Diseases Cure Pill—not by much, just ten yuan per pill," he said.
"No," Gao Fei immediately rejected the proposal. "At the company's opening ceremony, I publicly stated that the price of the Hundred Diseases Cure Pill would never be raised, and since I've made promises publicly, I will absolutely not go back on my word."
"But..." Zhang Chunhui was just about to speak when Gao Fei cut him off.
Gao Fei waved his hand: "Don't talk about it anymore! I will definitely not agree to raise the price of the Hundred Diseases Cure Pill, not now, nor in the future. Continue reporting on other business."
""Jade sales are really hot; antiques are slightly lacking,"" someone reported.
"The several branches in the Eastern Suburb District have officially opened for business, and sales performance has been quite good."
"Recently, quite a few major clients have shown interest in collaborating with our group."
...
The managers reported in detail on the Group's recent business activities.
"How much money is there on the Group's books at present?" Gao Fei asked.
"Around 13 billion," the head of the finance department replied.
"Only 13 billion?" Gao Fei frowned.
"The Group has tied up most of its funds in jade and antiques, so there's relatively less cash on hand," explained the head of the finance department.
"If you include the inventory of jade and antiques, the Group's total assets are definitely over 50 billion," said Vice President Zhang Chunhui.
For a newly established group to have assets worth hundreds of billions in such a short time was already quite an achievement.
"I'm going to need some cash soon," Gao Fei said. "You all think of ways to help me raise it."
"How much?" asked Zhang Chunhui.
"No ceiling—the more, the better," Gao Fei stated.
"Ah?" Zhang Chunhui was stunned: "Chairman, what... what are you going to do..."
"Don't ask so many questions; just do as I say," Gao Fei waved his hand. "Alright, that's it. You all may go back to your offices now."
Zhang Chunhui and the other managers stood up and left the office.
"The funds are still a bit short," Gao Fei sighed softly. "It won't be possible to suppress Su Zhentian without ample funds."
...
In the corridor.
Zhang Chunhui and a few Group managers gathered quietly to talk.
"What do you think the Chairman is planning?"
"He must be planning some big moves," someone guessed.
"Since the chairman has spoken, let's hurry up and raise the funds. We'll do our best to gather as much as possible."
"I'm going to the sales department now to have them sell as much jade and antiques as possible."
"I'll contact the banks to apply for a loan."
"The Group has some outstanding accounts receivable; I'll go and chase them up."
After discussing their plan of action, the managers went their separate ways to get to work.
...
In the afternoon.
Lu Hao came to the company to find Gao Fei: "Brother Fei, I've settled the matter."
"What matter?" Gao Fei inquired.
"The matter with Feng Yan," Lu Hao replied.
"Oh? How did you manage that?" Gao Fei asked with interest.
"I made a bet with Feng Yan. Within one year, if Feng Yan can make me fall in love with her, I'll marry her and take care of her for a lifetime. Conversely, if she can't make me fall in love with her within a year, then we'll break up and never see each other again," Lu Hao paused, then continued, "During this year, Feng Yan has to follow me wherever I go.
We'll use this time to adapt to each other—if we can develop feelings, then I'll accept my fate. If we can't, then it simply means we're not suitable for each other."
"Hmm," Gao Fei nodded. "That's a good approach. It will do you both good to calm down and have a cooling-off period for a year. After that year, you'll make a decision without any regrets. But, getting past your grandfather's approval—that won't be easy, will it?"
"I've already talked to my grandfather on the phone, and he has agreed," Lu Hao said.
"That settles it, then," Gao Fei smiled. "At least, you won't have to worry for this year."
"Brother Fei, let's go drink. I really want to drink today," Lu Hao said.
Gao Fei nodded, "Let's go, we'll find a place to have a good drink or two."
And so, the two of them got up and left Feitian Group, then found a bar to start their drinking spree. After all, life is for living with as much pleasure as possible.
"Brother Fei, am I really worthless?" Lu Hao asked.
"You're drunk, and you've started talking nonsense now."
"No, I'm not drunk; I'm very clear-headed right now… Actually, you don't have to answer. I know what you're thinking; you must look down on me, thinking I'm just a spoiled playboy, relying on my family's wealth to misbehave. People like me waste air, food, and time." Lu Hao cracked a wry smile as he spoke, his expression filled with bitterness, "I don't want to be like this either.
I want to be a responsible and capable man, but… I simply can't do it. I'm someone who dreads hardship, lacks patience in everything, has a fiery temper, loves fighting, and feels anxious if I don't go out every night… I've realized I'm a lost cause; every day is nothing but eating, drinking, and fooling around, without the ability to do anything else…"
Gao Fei patted Lu Hao on the shoulder, "Enough, don't talk anymore."
"No, I have to say it." Lu Hao picked up his glass and gulped down a mouthful fiercely. "Everyone envies me, saying I'm lucky, born into a noble family, living a carefree life since childhood, doing whatever I want, slapping whoever I dislike and they can't even fight back! It sounds so free and powerful, but who knows the pain in my heart?
Since I was sensible, my grandfather has called me a disgrace and a family shame, beating me now and then. Other noblemen's children mock me, calling me a useless coward... And there are people who curse behind my back, saying things that are incredibly nasty, don't you think I have pride too? Don't you think I want to achieve something too?
I've tried for this, but it's been a failure… I've come to see that I'm just a pest; my existence is meaningless…"
"That's enough." Gao Fei snatched the glass from Lu Hao's hand, "Stop talking such bullshit! Come on, I'll take you back to rest. You'll be fine after a good sleep."
"No, I'm not leaving." Lu Hao started to act out his drunken frenzy, "I haven't had enough to drink, I'm not going, absolutely not!" With that, Lu Hao grabbed the bottle and began to guzzle wildly, and after a few sips, he lay motionless on the table, the bottle falling from his hand to the ground.
"Being drunk might be a good thing; it temporarily makes you forget your troubles." Gao Fei helped the utterly inebriated Lu Hao and walked towards the exit of the bar. Just as they were about to reach the door, Gao Fei suddenly stopped, "Huh? Isn't that Shen Caidie?" Across the room, in a private booth, there was a group of men and women among whom was Shen Caidie.
Shen Caidie's condition was terrible at that moment, her head was spinning, and she was seeing double. What's going on? Just one drink and I'm like this? It shouldn't be; based on my past drinking, even ten drinks would be no issue.
"Here, Director Shen, let me toast you another glass," a fat man with a large ear holding a glass said.
"No… no more… my head is too dizzy, I can't drink any more…" Shen Caidie shook her head.
"Are you not giving me face?" the fat man's face darkened.
"No, it's not that… I truly can't drink anymore…" Shen Caidie's head felt more and more muddled, her body starting to heat up, and at that moment, she finally realized something was amiss. Using a chair to support herself, she stood up: "I'm sorry, I feel unwell and must leave now. Another day, I'll host and entertain everyone…" After saying that, Shen Caidie tried to leave.
"Don't rush off," the fat man stood up and blocked Shen Caidie, "Stay a little longer, have two more drinks."
"No, I can't drink anymore…"
"Come on, sit down. Just have two more drinks and I'll let you go."
The fat man pressed Shen Caidie back into the chair without waiting for a reply.
"Yeah, just two more drinks."
"Director Shen, if you have these two drinks, I'll sign the contract with you tomorrow."
"Right, sign the contract."
…
The other men and women chimed in together.
"I really can't drink anymore." Shen Caidie leaned in the chair, her voice weak and breathless, "I'm feeling so sick."
"Here, let me feed you," said a gaudily dressed woman, picking up a glass and moving it toward Shen Caidie's mouth. She looked ready to force the drink.
"Smack!"
A large hand came from the side and snatched the glass away.
"Who the hell are you?" The gaudily dressed woman glared and cursed, "Dare to steal my drink, do you want to die?"
"Mr… Mr. Gao…" Shen Caidie struggled to open her eyes and saw a man standing next to her. After a careful look, she realized it was Gao Fei.
Gao Fei brought the glass up to his nose and sniffed, then a cold smile appeared on his face, "Spiking the drink with drugs, that's quite a lowly tactic, don't you think?"
"What nonsense are you spouting!" The fat man stood up abruptly, pointing at Gao Fei and shouting, "I warn you, mind your own business, get lost if you don't want to die!"
"Bang!"
With one kick, Gao Fei sent the fat man flying.
"Clatter…"
After toppling several chairs, the fat man crashed to the ground hard, his mouth gaping as he spat out a mouthful of blood along with two front teeth. "It hurts to death, it hurts to death!" he covered his mouth, wailing miserably.
"You dare to hit people!" The other men and women panicked, grabbing bottles and chairs to throw at Gao Fei.
"Clash clash clang clang…"
"Ting ting tang tang…"
"Bang bang bang bang…"
With little effort, Gao Fei struck down several men and women, who lay on the floor crying and screaming, clutching their arms and faces.
