Chapter 46 The Hateful Person
Hateful people always have something pitiable about them!
Yuan Dahai was quite pitiable! After toiling away to become a company leader, at the height of his life, he was dismissed by the company; then, after finally finding a girlfriend, she was murdered. Even someone as resilient as Yuan Dahai would collapse now.
After his breakdown, Yuan Dahai began his frenzied revenge, causing great turmoil in society.
"You are pitiable," sighed Liu Mengyao.
"I don't need your pity!" Yuan Dahai scoffed coldly, "You are not qualified to pity me!"
"Do you really want to be a fugitive for life?" Liu Mengyao said, "Living every day in hiding, suffering great pain deep inside, is this how you find meaning in life?"
"Being executed by your guns would be meaningful?!" Yuan Dahai roared.
Liu Mengyao shook her head. "That's not what I mean..."
"Then what do you mean? There's not a single good person among you lot!" Yuan Dahai said through gritted teeth, "On the surface you pretend to be righteous, but behind the scenes you're all just a bunch of thieves and whores, not a single good person!"
"You have a deep prejudice against us," Liu Mengyao argued, "I admit there are bad apples in our ranks, but most people are still filled with a sense of justice."
"Enough with your sophistry," Yuan Dahai waved impatiently, "You're a cop, of course you speak for the police." As he spoke, Yuan Dahai looked Liu Mengyao up and down: "To tell the truth, you are indeed quite attractive, especially this figure... to have you under me would undoubtedly be very pleasurable."
Liu Mengyao's expression changed: "Don't you dare!"
"Counting the days, it's been over a month since I last touched a woman," Yuan Dahai smacked his lips.
"Yuan Dahai! If you dare touch me, I'll kill myself! Without me as a hostage, you'll definitely not escape!" Liu Mengyao shouted sternly.
"Hahaha..." Yuan Dahai suddenly burst into laughter, laughing so hard he was gasping for air, tears streaming down his face: "I'm just kidding with you, look how scared you got! I, Yuan Dahai, am not that depraved to do such things."
"You..." Liu Mengyao's eyes widened with anger, this Yuan Dahai was despicable, toying with her like this!
"Tat-tat-tat..."
Suddenly, a series of subtle footsteps came from ahead.
"Who?" Yuan Dahai suddenly looked up, only to see a man walking towards him from dozens of meters away, with a crew cut, thick eyebrows, big eyes, wearing a half-sleeve shirt, and jeans, walking steadily, looking quite imposing.
"Gao Fei?" Liu Mengyao's face showed an incredulous expression.
Indeed, the newcomer was Gao Fei!
Seeing Liu Mengyao was unharmed, Gao Fei breathed a sigh of relief, and took a coin out of his pocket. With a flick of his finger, the coin turned into a streak of light flying towards Yuan Dahai... The coin moved so fast that Yuan Dahai had no time to dodge.
Yuan Dahai only felt a flash before his eyes, and then a sharp pain in his wrist. His fingers loosened, and the dagger fell to the ground.
"Swoosh!"
Gao Fei's figure blurred, and he was in front of Yuan Dahai in an instant. With a casual lift of his hand, Yuan Dahai was sent flying backward, slamming hard against a large tree. He then slowly slid to the ground, mouth opening to spit out a mouthful of fresh blood.
From Gao Fei's appearance to Yuan Dahai being knocked to the ground, it took only half a minute. Such was the disparity in strength.
"Hey, what are you daydreaming about? Get up quickly!" Gao Fei glared at Liu Mengyao, who was still lying on the ground in a daze.
"Uh..." Liu Mengyao, coming to her senses, quickly got up from the ground and then looked at Gao Fei with a puzzled face: "You... how did you come? "
"I learned from the TV that you were taken hostage by a criminal, so I specifically came to rescue you," Gao Fei explained, "It's good that I arrived in time. Liu Mengyao, no offense, but could you use your brain more in the future? Don't take risks alone anymore, okay? You won't always run into me! Last time you were held hostage by robbers at the gold shop, and this time by a murderer.
I find you really are both foolish and stupid!"
Liu Mengyao's face turned slightly red: "You're right, I'll be more careful from now on."
"All right, let's take the criminal down the mountain," Gao Fei pointed at Yuan Dahai, who was still spitting blood, "He's been punched by me, his internal organs are all shaken up; he doesn't have the ability to resist anymore."
"Actually, this Yuan Dahai is a pitiable person," Liu Mengyao sighed softly.
...
Liu Mengyao and Gao Fei carried the barely alive Yuan Dahai down the mountain.
"Team Leader Liu!"
"It's Team Leader Liu!"
"Wasn't she taken hostage by a criminal?"
"Hurry over and check it out!"
A group of police officers quickly gathered around, with the Criminal Investigation Team Leader, Song Minghui, running at the forefront. Seeing Liu Mengyao return safely, Song Minghui couldn't express how thrilled he was: "Team Leader Liu, it's such a relief that you have returned safely! Is the man you're holding the criminal Yuan Dahai?... Eh? Who is this? He looks so familiar.
Oh, now I remember, you are Mr. Gao Fei, you helped us catch the robbers at the gold shop last time! Mr. Gao, what are you doing here? And coming down the mountain with Team Leader Liu?"
"Today, we were able to successfully apprehend Yuan Dahai, and it was largely thanks to Mr. Gao's assistance," Liu Mengyao explained the course of events in brief.
"Mr. Gao, I really can't thank you enough! You've been a great help to us in the police force today," Song Minghui said with deep gratitude, "I will request a commendation for you from our superiors so that they can reward you handsomely!"
"Captain Song, you're giving me too much credit. I merely did what little I could; the main credit still goes to Liu Mengyao," Gao Fei deflected the praise toward Liu Mengyao, "If it weren't for Liu Mengyao bravely matching wits with the assailant and diverting his attention, I wouldn't have been able to launch a surprise attack successfully."
"Both of you have merit! Both have merit!" Song Minghui laughed, "I will apply for commendations for both of you!"
The pursuit operation had thus reached a perfect conclusion.
Yuan Dahai was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Once his injuries stabilized, he was transferred to a detention center to be held in custody, where he would face legal trial. His experiences indeed invoked sympathy; Shi Wenlong certainly deserved to die, but… Shi Wenlong's family was innocent. Yuan Dahai, in a violent rage, killed all members of Shi Wenlong's family.
Such behavior was utterly irrational and unacceptable!
...
Gao Fei and Liu Mengyao were both commended by the police. Gao Fei received a medal and a bonus of one hundred thousand, while Liu Mengyao was promoted to deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Brigade.
Toward evening.
Inside a private room of a small restaurant.
Gao Fei and Liu Mengyao sat around the dining table, eating and drinking with laughter and good cheer, the atmosphere was very harmonious.
"Yuan Dahai is probably going to be sentenced to death this time," Liu Mengyao sighed softly, "To be honest, Yuan Dahai is also a pitiable person."
"That's just the way the world works," Gao Fei lamented, "Yuan Dahai is indeed a tragic figure. In fact, his fate could have been different. For example, during his time at the company, if he had just restrained himself a bit during the dispute with the boss's son, he wouldn't have been fired…"
"So what are you suggesting?" asked Liu Mengyao, "Just let others bully him?"
Gao Fei shook his head, "There are many ways to get back at someone, and Yuan Dahai chose the most direct one. He might have felt vindicated at the moment, but it also brought him considerable trouble thereafter."
"Talking about these things now is meaningless," Liu Mengyao lifted her glass and took a sip.
"Yes," Gao Fei nodded, "It's meaningless now. Yuan Dahai's life was destined to be a tragedy. Let's hope that in his next life, he can be reborn into a better family."
"Gao Fei, the main reason I invited you for dinner today is twofold," Liu Mengyao raised her head, looking at Gao Fei with a cheerful smile, "Firstly, to thank you for saving my life again, and secondly… the leaders have asked me to consult with you. They're wondering if you would like to become a police officer. If you do…"
"I'm not interested," Gao Fei started shaking his head before Liu Mengyao could finish her sentence, "I told you long ago that I have no interest in being a police officer."
"Hear me out," Liu Mengyao said, "The leader mentioned they would promote you exceptionally if you agree…"
"No, thank you," Gao Fei was firm, "I'm quite satisfied with my current way of life and do not wish to change it."
"Fine then, let's pretend I never mentioned it. Come on, let's drink!" Liu Mengyao raised her glass and tilted her head back, downing the drink in one go. Despite being a woman, she drank with a gusto not inferior to any man.
After a satisfying meal, the two got up and left the restaurant.
Stepping outside, they were greeted by a cool breeze that sobered them up a great deal.
Gao Fei dropped Liu Mengyao off at her home first and then drove back to his own place. Just like always, he took off his clothes, bathed in a hot shower, and then sat cross-legged on his bed to begin his cultivation.
...
While Gao Fei was cultivating, Wang Wei was rolling in agony on his hospital bed, emitting blood-curdling screams.
Starting five days ago, Wang Wei's hands and feet had begun to wither and convulse. Within a few days, they had wasted away to nearly half their size, presenting a frightening appearance.
"It hurts to death… it's killing me…" Wang Wei howled in agony.
"Bang!"
The tightly shut door was pushed open forcefully, and several doctors in white coats hurried in, followed by a person with a full head of white hair, walking briskly—a formidable figure known as the Jade King, Wang Changtian.
Seeing the excruciating pain of Wang Wei, Wang Changtian's heart wrenched with each convulsion.
A doctor pulled out a syringe and administered a sedative to Wang Wei, who then slowly drifted off to sleep.
"What exactly is wrong with my grandson!" Wang Changtian asked sternly, "Why are his hands and feet withering? Why! It's been five days; how have you still not determined the cause of the illness?"
"We have never encountered such a case before!"
"We suspect it could be due to blockage in the blood vessels."
"There seems to be an issue with the muscles as well, leading to the atrophy."
...
The doctors shared their speculations.
