Chapter 30 Very Angry
Seafood City.
Inside a private room.
A man and a woman were sitting around the dining table, devouring various seafood dishes while chatting and occasionally bursting into hearty laughter. The man was Gao Fei, and the woman was Liu Mengyao.
"Gao Fei, with your impressive skills, it's really a waste for you not to be a cop," Liu Mengyao suddenly remarked.
"A cop?" Gao Fei was taken aback for a moment. "I've never really thought about it..."
"You could start thinking about it now," Liu Mengyao lifted her head and looked earnestly at Gao Fei. "If you want to be a cop, I can help you! I'm telling you, being a cop is prestigious. Not only do you have a stable income, but you can also protect the citizens..."
Gao Fei raised his hand to interrupt Liu Mengyao, "I'm not interested in being a cop."
"You... think about it again, being a cop is really a good job," Liu Mengyao persisted, genuinely hoping Gao Fei would become a policeman. With Gao Fei's superior skills, he would definitely shine in the police force.
"I really don't want to be a cop," Gao Fei shook his head.
"It's a pity..." A hint of disappointment appeared on Liu Mengyao's face.
After they had eaten their fill, they got up and left Seafood City.
"Come on, I'll take you home." Gao Fei brought his Mercedes over. It was already evening, and the sunset's afterglow cast a hazy halo on the Mercedes, which was quite fetching.
Liu Mengyao didn't object and simply opened the car door and got in.
"Vroom!"
As Gao Fei stepped on the accelerator, the Mercedes turned into a bolt of lightning and zoomed away.
Leaning on the soft car seat, Liu Mengyao looked through the window at the scenery outside. "I finally understand why you don't want to be a cop."
"Huh?" Gao Fei turned his head and looked at Liu Mengyao, whose face was filled with contemplation. "What do you mean by that?"
"Becoming a cop means having many concerns when doing things," Liu Mengyao said slowly. "To a certain extent, it means losing some freedom. Take this Mercedes, for instance.
If you really became a cop, you couldn't drive a Mercedes without a care in the world, and you wouldn't be able to continue doing business." A small-time cop driving a Mercedes to and from work would definitely spark public opinion, and not the favorable kind.
Gao Fei laughed. "You do see things clearly, but now, I want to ask you..." He paused for a moment. "Since you understand that being a cop means being less free and having more concerns, why do you still want to be one? With your talents and intelligence, you could stand out in any other profession."
"I was born into a family of cops," Liu Mengyao said slowly. "My grandfather, father, and brother are all policemen. Influenced by them since I was young, I also aspired to be a cop one day. Eventually, my dream came true, and I've been a cop for over two years, dealing with all sorts of cases every day.
It's truly exhausting, but I've never regretted it because I chose this path myself, and no matter how bitter or difficult, I must persevere... Actually, being a cop has its benefits. First, the salary is high; second, no one dares to mess with you; and lastly, the profession of a cop is very respectable by others."
"You said something particularly true," Gao Fei nodded. "The police profession indeed gains respect easily! It's because of policemen like you that our society's security is so good, allowing the public to live worry-free."
After several meetings, their relationship had clearly warmed up, and they spoke to each other more casually.
Half an hour later, the Mercedes stopped in front of a residential complex guarded by policemen. This was the Public Security Bureau's family compound, inhabited by people from the public security system.
"Would you like to come in for a bit?" Liu Mengyao invited Gao Fei: "My parents are quite hospitable."
"No need, I still have things to do," Gao Fei declined politely.
"Alright then, be careful on your way back. It's rush hour now, and there are a lot of vehicles and pedestrians on the road." Liu Mengyao got out of the car and then advised Gao Fei to drive slowly.
"Goodbye." Gao Fei waved to Liu Mengyao and then drove the Mercedes away.
After the Mercedes had completely disappeared from view, Liu Mengyao turned and walked into the complex. When she got home, she found her parents and brother sitting on the sofa, all of them smiling warmly at her.
"Mengyao, tell me the truth, are you dating a boyfriend?" her mother asked kindly.
"No?" Liu Mengyao was taken aback.
"Don't lie to us!" her mother laughed. "We saw it!"
"What did you see?" Liu Mengyao looked puzzled.
"I want to know, was there a boy who just brought you home?"
"Ah... how did you know?"
"I saw it from the window! I couldn't make out his face because it was too far away, but his silhouette looked rather fine. Tell me about this boy, what's his name? Where does he work? What's his family like?"
"Ah, where on Earth did your mind go? He's definitely not my boyfriend!"
"Not your boyfriend? Then why did he walk you home? And why did the two of you act so intimately?"
"What are you looking at!" Liu Mengyao said, caught between laughing and crying, "How were we intimate? We were just chatting normally! He and I are just ordinary friends!" With that, Liu Mengyao added another line, "Very ordinary friends."
"Really just ordinary friends?" Her mother seemed somewhat disbelieving.
"Do I need to lie to you! Alright, I'm off to take a shower." Dropping that line, Liu Mengyao turned and walked into the bathroom.
"It was a false alarm." Her mother sighed with disappointment. Her father and brother also showed disappointed faces. Liu Mengyao was already 28 years old, not young anymore. If she delayed any longer, she would truly become a leftover woman.
What are parents most concerned about? Isn't it their children's lifelong matters?
Inside the bathroom.
Liu Mengyao looked at herself in the mirror and felt somewhat gloomy. Being a normal woman, of course, she wanted a man's affection, but... the men around her just didn't catch her eye. Sometimes, Liu Mengyao wondered if her standards were too high? After all, there's no such thing as a perfect man in this world.
Just then, the image of Gao Fei suddenly popped into Liu Mengyao's mind, startling her. What's going on with me? Why would I think of Gao Fei out of the blue? Could it be that I have feelings for him... No! Impossible!
Apart from being skilled in martial arts, Gao Fei has no other merits. How could I possibly fall for him?
That's absolutely impossible!
It must be because I've been too busy with work lately, causing my nerves to get a bit frazzled, hence these random thoughts. Yes, that must be it.
Liu Mengyao shook her head vigorously, banishing Gao Fei's image from her mind, then she undressed, turned on the shower, and began to bathe. After shedding her clothes, Liu Mengyao's fiery figure was fully exposed to the air. To whom would such a perfect body eventually belong?
...
Night fell.
Stars twinkled, and a crescent moon slowly appeared in the sky.
Shen Caidie had just left the company when she received a call from her mother, "Mom? Why are you calling me at this time? Is something wrong?"
"Caidie, today a young man named Wang Wei came to visit your father and me and brought a lot of gifts." Her mother said, "He mentioned he's your friend..."
"Who did you say?" Shen Caidie's face suddenly changed.
"Wang Wei... He said his name is Wang Wei... And that he's good friends with you..."
"He actually went to you guys! He... He is so shameless!!!" Shen Caidie said, her face turning an angry shade of blue.
"What's wrong? Is there a problem with this Wang Wei?" Her mother asked anxiously.
Shen Caidie calmed her emotions, then spoke calmly, "This Wang Wei wants to pursue me and after I rejected him, he started targeting you... Don't bother with him anymore."
"Your suitor?" Her mother laughed, "I think that young man isn't bad, with good looks and manners, and I heard he's even a company boss." It seemed like Shen Caidie's mother had a very good impression of Wang Wei.
This was precisely where Wang Wei excelled, deliberately charming Shen Caidie's parents in the hopes of pressuring her through them. Now it seemed his scheming had succeeded.
"Mom! Don't be fooled by Wang Wei's facade!" Shen Caidie was immediately infuriated upon hearing her mother speak up for Wang Wei, "Wang Wei is no good man! On the surface, he may seem gentle and upright, but in reality, he's filled with villainy, despicable and shameless. If I were to marry such a man, my life would be utterly ruined."
"Is this Wang Wei really as bad as you say?" Her mother sounded somewhat skeptical.
"Mom! I'm your daughter, your own flesh and blood. Would I lie to you?" Shen Caidie furrowed her brows, "If Wang Wei was really that good, do you think I would reject him?"
"...It seems... I've been deceived..." Her mother sighed, "For someone to hide their true nature to this extent is really something!" She paused, then added, "But then again, you aren't getting any younger, it's about time you found a boyfriend..."
"Alright, I get it." The three words 'boyfriend' were now what Shen Caidie dreaded the most. That's also why she chose to move out and live on her own. Going back every day to face her parents' nagging, urging her to find a boyfriend quickly, it was just too bothersome. In the end, she simply chose to live alone.
"Come back when you have time for a meal. Your dad and I miss you. Also, don't work too hard, and make sure to rest when you should..." After several reminders from her mother, the call finally ended.
All mothers in the world love their children dearly; no matter how old they get, they're still children in their mothers' eyes.
"This Wang Wei is really too much! He actually went to bother my parents! How detestable!" After cursing a few times, Shen Caidie pulled up Wang Wei's number and dialed it.
"Miss Shen? Is it really you?" Wang Wei's surprised voice came from the phone, "You're actually calling me? I'm truly flattered!" In Wang Wei's memory, this was the first time Shen Caidie had ever called him.
