Chapter 101: Changing Tack with the Wind
Feng Yugang was filled with doubts and confusion. How could this be? Why would the two elders unprincipledly protect Feng Yan and Lu Hao? Just because they were their granddaughter and grandson? To go further in officialdom, one must learn to endure and compromise, to give way when it's time to do so, and to slowly counterattack when enough strength is accumulated.
"I have to admit, the two elders really love you too much," Feng Yugang said with a wry smile.
"Uncle Feng, you might have misunderstood," Lu Hao shook his head. "The reason my grandfather pressured you isn't because of me."
"Not because of you? Then because of whom?" Feng Yugang asked irritably.
"Because of him," Lu Hao stretched out his hand, pointing to Gao Fei standing by.
"Him?" Lu Hao raised an eyebrow. "Who is he?"
"The illness of my grandfather was cured by him," Lu Hao explained.
"The miraculous doctor?" Feng Yugang's eyes widened in an instant. "No wonder... no wonder the two elders had such an attitude..." When Gao Fei was treating the two elders, Feng Yugang had been entangled in an issue and couldn't return to the capital city, hence he didn't witness Gao Fei himself. He knew that the miraculous doctor who treated the two elders was a young man.
He had planned to thank Gao Fei in person if he had the chance, but unexpectedly, he met him today.
After understanding the situation, Feng Yugang knew what to do. He turned his head to look at Qiao Heshui, who was turning pale, "I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself for your crimes. Arrest the man and woman standing by the sports car and bring them back for a thorough investigation."
"What?" Qiao Heshui was stunned.
"What, you don't want to redeem yourself for your crimes?" Feng Yugang's face darkened.
"No, no, no, I do, I really do," Qiao Heshui nodded in haste. "I'll arrest them right now." After saying that, Qiao Heshui lifted his foot and walked towards Shaogang and Zhao Ting. "Come on, arrest both of these people!"
"Whoosh..."
A bunch of police officers rushed over and handcuffed Shaogang and Zhao Ting.
"Uncle Qiao, what's gotten into you? How could you arrest me?" Shaogang panicked. "Don't forget, my dad once saved your life!"
Qiao Heshui's face twitched violently, and then he lowered his voice to say, "Little Fu, I don't want to arrest you... but... the other party's background is too strong, I can't afford to offend. To keep my position, I have no choice but to inconvenienced you. But rest assured, I will call your father later and ask him to figure out a way to save you."
"You..." Shaogang was about to speak but was interrupted by Qiao Heshui.
"Shaogang, wake up," Qiao Heshui sighed. "The other party has a very deep background. You can't afford to offend them. If you lower your head and admit your mistake now, you might still have a chance."
"Expect me to lower my head? For me to admit I'm wrong?" Shaogang laughed, but it was a cold laugh. "Impossible! My life's dictionary doesn't include such words!"
"You really are... Forget it, I won't talk to you anymore," Qiao Heshui waved his hand. "Take them back to the station." Qiao Heshui had heard about Feng Yugang's background and knew he was from a big family in the capital with deep connections, certainly not someone he could afford to offend, and even Shaogang's dad would have to act humble in front of Feng Yugang.
To preserve his position, Qiao Heshui could only sacrifice Shaogang temporarily; it was a matter of necessity.
A group of police officers pushed Shaogang and Zhao Ting towards the vehicle. When they realized the police were being serious, Shaogang and Zhao Ting were terrified. Shaogang yelled loudly, "Stop, stop right there, I need to make a phone call! I want to call!" He wanted to call his dad for help, but the police officers didn't give him a chance.
"Wait," Lu Hao suddenly called out.
"Uh... What is it?" Qiao Heshui asked, puzzlingly polite to Lu Hao out of respect for Feng Yugang's face. Of course, that was because he didn't know Lu Hao's identity and background. If he knew Lu Hao was from the Lu Family in the capital, Qiao Heshui would certainly be even more polite.
Without paying attention to Qiao Heshui, Lu Hao walked towards Shaogang and Zhao Ting. "Weren't you two very arrogant just now? Why so cowardly all of a sudden? I thought you were pretty capable, but it turns out you're just two small grasshoppers."
"Don't get too smug!" Shaogang glared at Lu Hao. "I won't let you off! Dog... thing!"
"Slap!"
Lu Hao slapped Shaogang across the face, his expression dark as water, his eyes flickering with a sharp killing intent. "Say that again, I dare you!"
"I'm cursing you! Damn it!" Shaogang, stubborn, cursed back, "Dog... thing, bastard! Son of a...!"
"Slap!"
Lu Hao slapped Shaogang again.
"Your grandmother!"
"Slap!"
"Bastard, I'll kill you one day!"
"Smack!"
...
Every time Mr. Fu cursed, Lu Hao slapped him across the face. Soon, Mr. Fu's cheek swelled, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
"You can't..." Just as Qiao Heshui was about to step forward to stop it, he was blocked by Feng Yugang.
"Some people just need to be put in their place," Feng Yugang said indifferently.
Qiao Heshui obediently shut his mouth and turned his head away, choosing 'out of sight, out of mind.' He and Mr. Fu's father were old friends, decades old, and it pained him to see Mr. Fu being hit, but what could he do? He was just a minor leader at the precinct, with no real power to speak of.
Seeing Qiao Heshui's indifference, the other police personnel pretended not to see anything either. They were just low-level officers, and they followed orders, letting their superiors take the fall if something went wrong.
After being slapped a dozen or so times, Mr. Fu finally caved in, "Stop... please stop... I won't curse at you…" Speaking caused him pain due to his facial injuries, and he twitched all over. It was the first time in his life he had endured such treatment.
"Had enough?" Lu Hao sneered, "And here I thought you had some backbone! Turns out you're just a coward!"
Humiliated by Lu Hao's insults, Mr. Fu felt incredibly aggrieved but could only bear it, not daring to retaliate.
"Smack!"
Lu Hao raised his hand and delivered another resounding slap to Mr. Fu's face.
"You... I stopped cursing at you, why are you still hitting me..." Mr. Fu was so angry his eyes seemed to spit fire.
"I feel like it! I just don't like your face! I want to slap you, what are you going to do about it? Can't handle it, huh!" Lu Hao said arrogantly, his head held high: "Men like you deserve it!"
"You... you..." Mr. Fu was so angry he couldn't even speak. If looks could kill, Lu Hao would have been dead countless times by now, but unfortunately, that wasn't possible.
After dealing with Mr. Fu, Lu Hao turned his attention to Zhao Ting.
Zhao Ting shivered, "You... what do you want... I'm warning you... don't mess around..."
"Tsk, tsk..." Lu Hao looked Zhao Ting up and down, "Brother Fei's taste isn't that great, fancying someone like you, all show and no substance. What poor taste." After saying that, Lu Hao let out a cold laugh, "The funniest part is, you had the audacity to dump Brother Fei, you've really got some nerve!"
"I..."
"Shut up! Don't interrupt me when I'm speaking! Or I'll smack you! Don't think I wouldn't dare to hit you just because you're a woman!"
Startled by Lu Hao's threat, Zhao Ting immediately shut her mouth, not daring to utter another word.
"There's a saying, 'having eyes but failing to see.' That's exactly your situation!" Lu Hao said, "Your eyes might as well be on your butt! You're blind to Brother Fei's worth, a real catch – you really are blind as a bat! Do you know how much money Brother Fei has now?" Lu Hao stepped forward, leaning in close to whisper in Zhao Ting's ear, "Brother Fei now owns assets worth hundreds of billions!
Listen up, hundreds of billions of assets!!! And this is just the beginning, he'll be even richer in the future, and it won't be difficult for him to become the richest man in Huaxia, oh no, even the richest man in the world!"
Zhao Ting was stunned, her eyes filled with disbelief and astonishment.
"Silly woman, you are such a fool," Lu Hao said mockingly, "leaving the best man in the world and choosing such disgusting jerks instead!" After saying that, Lu Hao slapped Mr. Fu across the face.
"Why are you hitting me again…" Mr. Fu's eyes reddened, tears swirling, both from pain and frustration.
"I'm annoyed, and hitting you makes me feel better," Lu Hao said before slapping Mr. Fu again.
"How can you be like this…" Mr. Fu's tears finally overflowed, and he seethed inside, "Just because you're upset, it doesn't mean you can take it out on me..."
"I just want to! What can you do about it!" Lu Hao snorted, "Blame yourself for not knowing better, for provoking me. Did you really think I'd let you off easy? A grown man crying, how pathetic. Alright, take them away, I can't stand the sight of them." His last words were directed at the lower-ranking officers.
"Let's go, let's go, back to the station," Qiao Heshui urged, anxious to get away before anything else could happen, and quickly led his subordinates out. Of course, Mr. Fu and Zhao Ting were taken away too.
"Alright, it's all taken care of." Lu Hao glanced at his right hand, which was red, "Damn it, that jerk's face is so tough, it made my hand swell." After saying this, Lu Hao looked up at Gao Fei and said cheerfully, "Brother Fei, did I handle it well?"
Gao Fei curled his lip, "They met their nemesis with you." Truth be told, Gao Fei felt quite pleased seeing Lu Hao teach Mr. Fu and Zhao Ting a lesson, especially seeing the shock and a hint of regret in Zhao Ting's eyes made him feel exceptionally content.
"Mr. Gao!" Feng Yugang strode over, his face full of gratitude, "Thank you for curing my father's illness, allowing him to lead a healthy life. You're a benefactor to my whole family! If you ever need my help, just say the word. In Bright Pearl City, my word still carries some weight."
"You're too kind," Gao Fei said with a smile.
After chatting for a bit, Feng Yugang left. Before departing, he made a point of instructing Lu Hao to take good care of Feng Yan, warning that he wouldn't let Lu Hao off the hook if Feng Yan was mistreated in any way.
